✧36. Books And Subtle Affection✧
The thick reddish blood trickled down from Jin's hand as he stood between Yoongi and his uncle, his hand holding the sharp edge of the knife as it cut deep into his palm.
"Jin-hyung!" Taehyung cried out, rushing to his side.
Jungkook, frozen in shock, finally snapped out of it and moved to help, his face pale.
Jin winced but kept his grip firm on the knife, pulling it gently away from Yoongi and dropping it onto the table. "That's enough for today," he said through gritted teeth, hissing a little in pain.
"Are you crazy!?" Jun shouted, but his voice now filled with fear as he saw the blood dripping heavily.
Yoongi stared at Jin's injured hand, guilt and anger fuming in his eyes. "Why did you do that?" he asked.
Jin turned to him, and just sighed as he smiled gently at him.
Taehyung and Jungkook quickly grabbed a towel and started to wrap their hyung's bleeding hand.
"We need to get you to a doctor," Jungkook said urgently.
Jin nodded, wincing. "I'll be fine. Just... Don't worry, I will call one here."
Jun tsked at them, muttering something under his breath as he stood up and walked to his room angrily.
The maknaes glanced at each other worriedly as Jin then told them, "Call the usual doctor. And you all should go to your rooms and sleep."
He then turned to Yoongi, who stood there, not knowing what to do as he felt both guilty and angry. "That includes you too, Yoongi. So the three of you should get going to your rooms and sleep."
Since they were nearly finished with dinner, Jin added, "I'll let it slide for today, about you guys not eating fully." He laughed softly, though it was clear he was in pain.
Jungkook looked like he was going to cry at the sight of his hyung's bleeding hand, while Taehyung remained close to him, not wanting to leave.
"Go on, now, it's an order from me." Jin chuckled again, urging them gently.
Taehyung and Jungkook hesitated but eventually started going towards their room, wanting to respect their hyung's order. Yoongi stared at him a moment longer, his eyes now looking concerned.
"Yoongi," Jin said softly. "I'll be fine. Just... get some rest. You had a tiring day today. Good job resisting as long as you could. But it's alright now. So, go. And it's not your fault, okay? You have done your best."
With a sigh and a reluctant nod, Yoongi finally turned and walked to his room.
He sighed as he closed the door behind him. 'It's not my fault. Jin got in the way. So why am I feeling guilty?' he thought to himself.
He flopped onto the bed, groaning as he pulled at his hair in frustration. Muttering under his breath, he cursed, "That damn oldie is the cause of all of it."
He lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling as thoughts of Jin flooded his mind. The image of his bloodied hand, his calm and gentle smile and the way he had stood up for him played on repeat on his mind.
"Why am I thinking about that fucker?" Yoongi muttered to himself, annoyed as he then huffed out, "He just complicates everything."
He then got up from the bed and he switched off the big light before turning on the lamp, bringing a soft and warm glow around the room. Rolling back onto the bed, he pulled the duvet over himself as he sighed again.
Suddenly, he heard something from the room next to his, Jin's room. He sat up on his bed, ears pricking like a cat's at the faint sounds.
Slowly, he leaned in on the wall, pressing his ear against it to catch the muffled voices. He could hear Jin's voice along with another voice he hadn't heard before.
Curiosity getting the better of him, he got out of bed and padded silently to Jin's room. Standing outside the door, he hesitated, his hand hovering near the handle.
He didn't know why he came all the way up from his bed to the door now, but he pushed aside the thoughts and slowly opened the door and peeked inside, only his head visible.
"Yoongi?" Jin called out as he immediately saw him and smiled, waving him in. "What are you doing right there, hiding yourself like a kitten?"
Yoongi hesitated before slowly walking inside, his steps like a cat, so slow and quiet as he mumbled, "Don't call me that. And I wasn't hiding."
He then saw the other man in the room, middle-aged and professional-looking and quickly understood that the man was a doctor.
"Hello," the doctor greeted Yoongi, continuing to patch up the detective's injured hand.
Jin looked at Yoongi the entire time, smiling gently at him as the doctor finished his work.
Once the doctor was done, he bid his goodbyes and was accompanied out of the room by the butler, leaving only the dom and his sub inside.
Jin turned to Yoongi, his smile still present. "So, Yoongi, may I know why you're here when I clearly told you to go and sleep?"
Yoongi opened his mouth, but nothing came out. He himself didn't know why he was there. After a moment, he tried, "I..I couldn't sleep. I heard some sound and came to check it out."
"Oh, I see." Jin's smile turned into a small smirk. "You were worried about m-
"No! I wasn-"
Jin chuckled softly. "Alright, alright."
A deep silence fell between them as they looked at each other, both unsure of what to say next.
Jin then chuckled sweetly again, tilting his head. "Well, I assure you that you don't have to feel guilty. It wasn't really your fault." He continued, his tone bubbly, "Hey, what else could you have done other than lashing out at my uncle? If I were in your place, I would have been just as angry!"
Yoongi sighed, feeling a bit of the tension ease from his shoulders. Before Jin could say anything, he muttered quietly, "Sorry."
Jin heard that and smiled. "Hey, it's really alright. Mistakes happen." He then winked, "Since you're here, you might as well take care of me. I am an injured person now, you know."
Yoongi raised an eyebrow. "What do you want me to do?"
Jin's smile widened as he motioned toward a table. "Go get me that pink-colored book from the table."
Yoongi suprisingly did as he was told, retrieving the book. It was thin with a fully pink cover adorned with flower patterns that looked like peonies. At the center, there were two boys - one in color, looking like he was crying and the other in a gray scheme, smiling at him.
Turning back toward Jin, Yoongi saw him patting the space next to him on the bed. He was leaning back against the headboard, looking comfortable despite his injury.
Yoongi approached and handed the book to him. "So?" he asked.
Jin then says, "Come sit beside me quietly and read the book with me from start to finish."
Yoongi groaned, looking at him with furrowed eyes. "Why do I have to do that?"
Jin chuckled. "Come on, the story is great! There are only like 9 chapters, each with less than 2000 words. I need a partner to read along with me."
With a sigh, Yoongi settled next to him, flipping through the pages of the book. As they began to read together, the room filled with the sound of their voices and the soft rustling of pages turning, creating a peaceful atmosphere.
And at a particular chapter where one of the protagonists talked about his liking for peonies, Jin said, "I like water lilies." He then turned to Yoongi and asked him, "What about you? What's your favorite flower?"
Yoongi hesitated for a moment before replying, "I don't really have any preferences. But.. if I had to choose, I'd say red spider lilies."
Jin raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Oh, and why is that?"
"They look scary on the outside, but they're just like any ordinary lilies," Yoongi explained but then he furrowed his brow as he asked, "But why is the title of the book 'Thought We Built a Dynasty'? It doesn't seem to match the plot."
Jin smiled knowingly. "You'll find out soon enough about the poignant meaning behind the title," he replied.
As they continued reading together, they delved more into the emotional storyline of the actor and artist's relationship.
They were drawn into the heart-wrenching moments of love and loss as the artist battled stomach cancer in secret, hiding his pain from his partner.
Then, finally, Yoongi understood the significance of the title, "Oh, I get it now. The title was about the movie the actor debuted with."
Jin then added, "It wasn't just a movie. It's also the soundtrack for the film but it has a deeper meaning behind it."
As the story reached its climax with the artist's tragic passing and the actor's heartfelt song, that is the OST of the film to his beloved on his deathbed, it left a great impact on the depth of their love and loss.
However, Yoongi was taken aback by the unexpected plot twist at the end, where a fairy offered the actor a chance to rewrite history and save his partner from his illness.
"Wait, a fairy? Seriously?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.
Jin chuckled at his reaction. "I know, it's a bit far-fetched, but it adds an interesting twist."
At the end of the book, they read the lines that the actor sung to his partner.
"As I whisper these words, I realize we built more than just a dynasty together. I realized you were my real dynasty, and our chapter is never going to end."
Now, closing the book, Yoongi stretched his stiff muscles, feeling the strain of sitting for too long.
Jin turned to him, curious about his thoughts on the story. "What do you think?"
"Well," Yoongi considered for a moment before responding, "it was pretty good. I didn't expect that ending. It was better than the last book you showed me."
Jin chuckled at the mention of the previous book's title, 'My Spanking Partner,' remembering Yoongi's reaction.
"Well, I'm glad you enjoyed it," he said, smiling warmly. "It's getting late. You should head to bed now."
Yoongi nodded, feeling the exhaustion wash over him.
"Goodnight, Yoongi," Jin replied.
Yoongi then quietly muttered "night" before leaving. Jin smiled to himself, feeling warmth at the simple gesture.
Once the door closed, he lay back on the bed, gazing up at the ceiling.
In the quiet of the room, he whispered to himself, realizing the depth of his feelings towards his sub, "Yoongi, just like the actor in that story, you're more than just a dynasty to me. And I realised,
..you're my real dynasty too."
With that, he closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep, grateful for the presence of someone so special in his life.

Y'all, can we be real for a moment? Does anyone else feel like the plot is getting a bit dull lately? I can't help but feel that way with all the fluffy content. It's just not my usual cup of tea. I hope you'll forgive your author's lack of experience in romance. Maybe she'll improve with time.
