✧17. Into The Unknown✧
(Note : Namjoon knows that Jin is a detective. Jin told him the day they met.)
That morning...
Jin was in the college, seated in the staff room next to Namjoon, who was signing some students' test papers. They were totally engrossed in their work.
With no one else present in the room, Jin turned to him, breaking the silence. "Namjoon, do you happen to know when the principal won't be in his office?" He asked.
Namjoon paused his task of signing papers, looking up at him with a curious expression. "Hmm, I believe he has a meeting scheduled later this afternoon, around 2:30 and I heard it might end at 3:00 p.m.," he replied, his brows furrowing slightly as he recalled the schedule.
Jin nodded thoughtfully, processing the information. "Good to know.", he said, tapping his pen lightly against the desk as he thought about his next move.
Namjoon leaned in, his voice lowered to a whisper. "Are you planning to sneak into his room to find those secret files?" he asked.
Jin hesitated for a moment before nodding slowly. "Yes, I am," he admitted, his tone serious as he considered the risks involved.
Surprised by him, Namjoon's brows furrowed in thought. "Could I come with you?" he asked.
Jin's eyes widened at the unexpected request. "Are you sure about this, Namjoon?" He questioned, his voice laced with concern.
Namjoon nodded firmly, determination shining in his eyes. "I've been trying to get access to those files for over a year now, Jin. If there's a chance we can uncover the truth together, I want to take it," he declared.
Jin studied him for a moment, assessing his sincerity. "Alright," he said with a nod. "We'll do this together," he affirmed.
He then furrowed his brow as he asked Namjoon why they were not told about the meeting. Namjoon told him why as he began to explain everything that it might be about experiments.
"So, only the professors who've been here for more than five years can know about these experiments," Jin mused aloud. "What about you?"
"It's been three years for me." Namjoon said.
"Three years, and you've already uncovered this much including where the files might be," Jin remarked, impressed by him.
"Well, I am actually thankful to you, a good detective to come and solve this mystery. I really didn't expect someone to help me, really." Joon said as he smiled.
"I'm glad I can help," Jin replied and his expression softened. "It must have been difficult for you, knowing that many of your former students are among the missing," he remarked, his voice laced with sympathy. "But we'll do everything we can to uncover the truth and bring them home."

They then waited in tense anticipation until 2:30, the appointed time for the principal and the other professors to start their meeting in a private room.
When the clock finally struck 2:30, they knew it was their cue to act. With stealthy movements, they slipped out of the staff room, their senses heightened as they made their way towards the principal's office.
All students had already been instructed to remain in their classrooms during the meeting, leaving the corridor deserted.
As they stood infront of the office, Jin reached for the door handle and gave it a gentle push. To their fortune, it swung open without a sound, granting them access to the room beyond.
With cautious steps, they entered the dimly lit office. They then wasted no time, heading straight for the framed photograph of the principal's deceased wife.
As Jin examined it closely, he noticed the small, inconspicuous blue button that they needed which was concealed beneath the frame. Without hesitation, he pressed it and then, a section of the wall behind the principal's desk began to pivot open, revealing a hidden compartment within.
(Like this, guys👆)
Inside, a gleaming silver door awaited them, a portal to the secrets that lay beyond.
That door was locked with a number lock, leaving them momentarily stumped. Suddenly, Jin's memory sparked to life, recalling some numbers on the photo frame of the deceased wife.
He swiftly instructed Namjoon to retrieve the number and relay it to him. Without hesitation, Namjoon hurried to the photo frame and reported the numbers to him.
"09-03-2021"
With the numbers in hand, Jin meticulously input them into the lock. To their relief, the lock yielded, granting them passage out of the room.
"It worked," Jin breathed out, his voice tinged with a mixture of relief and triumph. "Let's go."
As they stepped into the room, their eyes widened at the sight of numerous bookshelves lining the walls, reaching up to a staggering ten shelves high. Each shelf was packed with books, folders, and various documents, hinting at the hidden knowledge contained within.
On the other side, a large TV screen displayed live feeds from CCTV cameras monitoring various rooms in the college.
Jin and Namjoon then observed the shelves carefully, noting that each one had a name written on it. They began to inspect them one by one, searching for any clue related to the missing students.
However, none of the shelves seemed to contain information about them, and to their dismay, they found that each shelf was secured with heavy locks, adding another layer of mystery.
"Damn," Namjoon muttered, frustration evident in his voice as he surveyed the locked shelves. Turning to Jin, he asked, "What do we do now?"
But then they noticed several computers arranged on a desk. "Let's check the computers," Jin suggested. They swiftly turned on the computers and when they booted up, the two elders quickly scanned through the files and folders. They meticulously checked each document, hoping to find any clue related to the missing students.
After a thorough search, they finally stumbled upon a folder labeled "Confidential experiments." Jin and Namjoon exchanged looks before opening the folder.
Inside the folder, they found detailed data about students who went missing. Shocked, Jin and Namjoon scrolled through the files, their expressions growing graver with each revelation.
"This is what we need."
Namjoon nodded in agreement. "We need to gather as much evidence as possible," he said.
"Let's copy these files and get out of here." Jin said while Namjoon went to keep an eye out for any signs of someone approaching.
Jin smoothly retrieved a pendrive from his pocket and inserted it into the CPU, his movements deliberate and precise. With practiced efficiency, he began the process of copying all the confidential files onto the pendrive, ensuring they have the evidence they need.
When the copying process was finished, the clock in the principal's room chimed, signaling that it was 3:00. With just a few seconds until the principal's return, urgency tinged the air.
They swiftly prepared to leave, but before doing so, Jin remembered something crucial. He approached the TV screen, swiftly manipulated something, then hurried out with Namjoon before they could be caught.
They went outside the secret room, ensuring to lock the number lock once more to avoid suspicions. Namjoon pressed the blue button, prompting the walls to close silently behind them. Just as they were about to exit the office, the sound of footsteps echoed in the corridor, causing them to freeze in their tracks.
It was the principal who unexpectedly entered the corridor. Jin and Namjoon's hearts pounded with anxiety. However, their tension eased slightly when the principal's phone began to ring. Without hesitation, he turned and walked in the opposite direction to take the call, his voice fading as he engaged in conversation.
Seizing the opportunity, they cautiously exited the room, closing the door softly behind them. With a sense of relief, they swiftly walked away.
They both entered the staff room, relieved to find it empty as the other professors hadn't arrived yet.
Hastily taking their seats, Jin carefully stashed the pendrive in his pocket while Namjoon voiced his concern, "Wait. What if the principal saw us coming to his room through the CCTV footage?"
Jin shook his head reassuringly, dismissing his worries. He then explained, "I have installed a small chip beneath the TV, which is programmed to delete all data stored within the past 24 hours. As a result, any footage of us would have already been erased, and then it makes the CCTV cameras temporarily inactive for five minutes. After those minutes, they would resume normal operation and begin recording new footage."
With that explaination, they took a moment to catch their breath and relax. Namjoon leaned back in his chair, visibly relieved, while Jin sat beside him.
He then turned to him, curiosity evident in his voice. "Hey, Jin," he began, "how did you come up with the idea for the number lock so quickly?"
Jin shrugged, a hint of a smirk playing at the corners of his lips. "Just me and my detective mind," he replied.
Namjoon leaned forward, his expression now turned serious yet hopeful. "Well, I'm counting on you from now on to unravel the rest of this mystery," he said earnestly, his eyes meeting Jin's.
Jin nodded in agreement, "Don't worry, Namjoon," he reassured, his tone resolute. "I will get to the bottom of this and find out what's really going on."
______Now - present time(evening )________
Yoongi leans forward, curiosity evident in his eyes. "Did you double-check everything before copying the files?"
Jin nods confidently. "Yes, I made sure we have all the necessary information."
With a swift motion, he inserts the pendrive into the laptop and opens the files. "Here are the missing students' names, their photos, and all relevant information. We even have dates, which could be when they disappeared."
Yoongi carefully examines the details on the screen, his expression growing serious.
Jin's brow then furrows in concern as he explains, "But in this folder, there are some students who don't fit the profile we had in mind." He pauses, searching for the right words to convey.
"They weren't exceptional in their grades or anything," he continues, his tone weighted with worry. "Some of them were actually struggling in their studies, far from being model students." He looks around the room, meeting eachother's gaze.
"I got this from Namjoon," he adds. "After he saw this file, he said that even the students who didn't excel in their studies are in this too. It's quite baffling," he admits. "We always assumed that the kidnappings were targeted at exceptional students, those who excelled academically. But it seems there's more to it than we initially thought."
Taehyung's expression mirrors Jin's confusion as he processes this new information. "So, you're saying the criteria for kidnapping isn't just based on academic performance?"
Jin nods, a troubled expression crossing his features. "Exactly. It appears there's a deeper motive behind these abductions. It's puzzling because it doesn't fit the pattern we assumed. These students, by all accounts, shouldn't have been targeted based on our previous understanding."
Yoongi's mind races with possibilities as he absorbs the implications of Jin's words.
If academic process isn't the sole criterion, then what could be driving these kidnappings?
He frowns. "So, what could be the motive behind kidnapping them then?"
Jin's expression darkens slightly as he considers the implications. "That's what we need to figure out," he replies, his mind already spinning with possibilities. "There might be more to this than meets the eye."
He then became hesitant as he continued, "Also, there is another folder that we need to look at."
Taehyung leans forward "What's in that folder?" he asks.
With a heavy sigh, Jin continues, his voice laden with unease. "It contains the names and photos of this year's students who might be targeted for kidnapping," he explains.
Then, in a moment of palpable tension, he adds the unsettling truth:
"Yoongi's details and photo are among them too, which means, Yoongi, you are going to be one of the human subjects in their experiment."
The room falls into a stunned silence as the weight of Jin's words sinks in.

What do you think might happen to Yoongi when he visits his mansion after such a long time? (It's been only six days though 😂)
Will he encounter any serious problem or a new person who might try to crush him down or make his pride hurt?
Did you all understand the chapters till now?
If not, please do ask me! I will clear your doubts!
In today's chapter, let's talk about nails.
Who has long nails like me? Tbh, I am obsessed with them. Having no nails is like being with no arms for me lol 😂
Also, the one in my thumb finger broke a month ago. So, it's an artificial one but the rest are original!
It seriously took a good amount of time for me to do that nail art but in the end, it feels so worth the time! 🤭💕
Also, I would have updated the chapter yesterday night but an incident happened! 😳
I was on a bus to go to a grand reception, and when the bus stopped and I got out, I slipped on the stairs of the bus and twisted my left leg lol.
I couldn't even walk and was balancing by using my sister's arm🥲
I couldn't fold my leg and couldn't even sit or lie down. The whole night was so terrible 🥲
But I am feeling good now! ♥️
Who loves the new cover I made?
Min Yoongi! GOD! How can a man be this hot😩? I am not marrying if I am not getting someone like him😩
