✧13. The Student's Gambit✧

The next morning, 7:00 a.m.

Yoongi came down from the stairs, his hair disheveled from sleep, and yawned as he made his way to the living room.

It marked the fifth day since he arrived at the house. Jin sat in the living room, engrossed in reading the diary the nurse had given Yoongi.

As he glanced up and saw the younger approaching, a tiny figure in the morning light, he couldn't help but internally coo at his sub, "Oh my god, so cute and tiny."

Yoongi caught his sparkling gaze and immediately felt a pang of annoyance. "What?" he barked, his morning grumpiness evident in his tone.

Jin chuckled, finding his irritation amusing. "Yoongi-yah, just when will you stop shouting at me?" he teased. "I've already brought down two of the rules I set for you."

Yoongi's irritation flared as he shot back, "Who the fuck do you think you are to set rules for me? I won't be under anyone's control."

Jin chuckled again, knowing this argument all too well. "Alright, let's not start this again," he said.

As they sat there, the elder flipped through the pages of the diary, his brow furrowing in concentration. "Yoongi, look at this," he said, pointing to a particular page. "These locations marked here - they match the ones that Michael mentioned."

Yoongi leaned closer, studying the markings intently. "And what about these names?" he asked, noticing a list of student names. "Why are they singled out?"

Jin nodded solemnly. "These seem like they are senior students, still attending the college," he explained. "And look here," he continued, pointing to a note below the names. "It says, 'Be careful of them.'"

Yoongi's eyes narrowed as he processed the information. "Does this mean the students we saw with weapons on the first day can be them?" he asked.

Jin nodded gravely. "It seems likely," he confirmed. "We'll need to be cautious around them."

Yoongi sighed in frustration. "Great, well done. Now, I have to watch my back around these damn kids," he muttered, a hint of annoyance in his voice.

Jin laughed at his reaction. "Exactly, and that's why we need to approach this carefully," he said. "We can't afford any reckless actions like you did on the first day, alright?"

Yoongi snorted, his frustration evident. "Tell that to the professors who think they're above everyone else," he grumbled. "If I weren't undercover, I would have dealt with them myself. Killing them all on the spot."

Jin nodded at his frustration. "I know it's frustrating, but we need to stay focused on the bigger picture," he reminded him. "We'll find a way to handle this, but we need to be patient and strategic."

Yoongi nodded reluctantly. "Fine, I'll try to keep my temper in check," he said, though his voice deep. "But if they push me too far..." He left the threat unspoken, knowing Jin understood what he meant.

The detective leaned back in his seat, a small smile playing on his lips. "Oh, I forgot to tell you. There was this little guy," he began, his tone casual. "Came to your mansion yesterday, asking for you. Claimed to be your younger brother."

"What?" Yoongi asked, confused. He paused for a moment, trying to process his words, before realization dawned on him.

Without another word, he shot up from his seat, his movements hurried. His mind racing with thoughts of finding his phone in his room while he stumbled several times on the stairs, almost losing his balance.

Jin's eyebrows shot up in concern as he watched his clumsy descent. "Hey, take it easy," he called out, his voice laced with worry. "Don't run, and be careful!" But Yoongi was already halfway up the stairs, his singular focus on reaching his room.

He quickly rushed to his room. He fumbled with his phone, fingers trembling in his way, until finally managing to power it on. As the device came to life, a flood of missed calls from his younger brother, Jimin, filled the screen.

Without hesitation, Yoongi dialed the number, the urgency evident in his actions.

However, before he could make the call, his phone buzzed with an incoming video call from Jimin. Yoongi's hand hovered over the screen for a brief moment before he accepted the call.

Jimin's face lit up on the screen as soon as the mafia answered the call, and he shouted "Yoongi hyung!" with such excitement that Yoongi winced, fearing his eardrums might burst.

"Calm down, Jimin," he said, rubbing his temple to ease the sudden headache.

Jimin giggled and asked, "How are you, hyung?"

Yoongi replied back, "Yeah, I am fine. What about you?"

"I'm good, hyung," Jimin replied, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "But why didn't you pick up any of my calls yesterday?"

Yoongi felt a pang of guilt as he explained, "I, uh, I had been caught up with some work. That's why."

The thing is, Jimin had mentioned about coming back home yesterday after studying abroad for years. Yoongi cursed himself internally for forgetting and realized that he had left his phone off after the events at the club the previous night.

Jimin's barrage of questions continued, as he asked where Yoongi was and what he was doing.

Before Yoongi could answer, Jin appeared at the door of the room, his presence interrupting their conversation. "Yoongi-yah, what are you doing? Why were you in a rush?"

Yoongi's immediate reaction was to hastily hide his phone, shooting Jin an annoyed gesture, silently urging him to leave. "None of your business, now go away!" He grumbled under his breath.

However, Jimin heard Jin's voice and inquired about it. "Hyung, who's there? What's going on?"

Jin smirked knowingly, understanding Yoongi's intentions, and proceeded to approach him despite the death glares he received. "Hello!" He said with an innocent smile, waving at Jimin.

Yoongi shot him an exasperated look, whispering under his breath, "What the fuck are you doing?" But Jin ignored his annoyance

"Oh, hello." Jimin began. "Um, you are..?"

Before Yoongi could say something, Jin interfered. "Hi, Jimin. I am Yoongi's friend. Also, a detective," he explained with a charming smile, "Yoongi's just helping me out with a little mystery case."

Yoongi's expression turned suprised as the elder portrayed himself as a friend rather than a dom, sparing him from potential embarrassment. "Yeah, I am just here for work," Yoongi chimed in, trying to maintain the facade.

Relieved, he watched as Jimin's eyes lit up at the mention of Jin's profession, expressing admiration for detectives. "Wow, that's amazing!" He then asked, "What's your age? Are you older than my hyung?"

Jin chuckled lightly, enjoying the interaction. "I'm older, Jimin-ah," he replied warmly. "But you can call me hyung if you want."

Jimin grinned in response, "Alright, hyung," he said with a nod.

Jin grinned as he glanced at Yoongi before turning his attention back to Jimin. "You know, Jimin, it's not easy to have someone like Yoongi as a brother," he teased, "But somehow, it seems like you managed to survive."

Yoongi rolled his eyes, shooting him a look of annoyance. "Ignore him, Jimin," he said, shaking his head. "He's just being annoying as usual."

Jin chuckled at his irritation, enjoying the opportunity to tease him further. "Oh, come on, Yoongi," he teased. "I know you love having me around to keep things interesting."

Yoongi shot him a glare. "More like you love annoying me," he said, crossing his arms over his chest. "You're lucky I put up with you."

Jin laughed, unfazed by him. "Ah, but where's the fun in being easy to put up with?" he asked, winking at Jimin. "Isn't that right, Jimin?"

Jimin just laughed at them. "See, even Jimin agrees with me," Jin said, nudging Yoongi playfully. "You're just too irresistible to resist."

Yoongi rolled his eyes which appeared to be more annoyed. "You wish," he shot back, "You should be glad that I tolerate your presence."

Jimin chuckled at them, finding them amusing. "You two seem to get along well," he said.

Jin nodded enthusiastically, "Oh, we're practically inseparable," he said.

Yoongi huffed, shaking his head. "More like a thorn in my side," he muttered under his breath.

Jin chuckled at him. "Ah, but what would you do without me?" he teased.

Yoongi scoffed, rolling his eyes. "Probably have a lot more peace and quiet," he said.

"You two really are something else," Jimin said, a fond smile playing on his lips.

Jin grinned again, "That's the beauty of our friendship," he declared.

"Yeah, a never-ending cycle of annoyance," Yoongi said, shooting Jin a glare.

Jimin chuckled, shaking his head. "Alright, alright, enough of the bickering," he said, playfully rolling his eyes. "I don't want to third wheel you two. And since I have an interview to attend today, I should probably get going," he said, glancing at the clock. "We'll catch up later, okay?"

Yoongi nodded, understanding. "Sure thing. Good luck with your interview," he said.

Jin smiled, waving at the screen. "Yeah, knock 'em dead!" he encouraged.

With a final wave, Jimin ended the call, leaving the two elders alone in the room once again.

Jin smiled warmly and stood up, "You've got a great little brother there," he said softly, his tone gentle.

As he began to leave the room, Yoongi's frustration bubbled to the surface. "Why did you do that?" he demanded, his voice tinged with irritation.

Jin paused in his tracks, turning back to face him with a curious expression. "Did what?" he asked innocently.

Yoongi's annoyance grew. "Don't play dumb," he snapped, his frustration evident. "Why did you introduce yourself as a friend when you're..." He trailed off, unable to bring himself to say the word "dom" aloud. He felt his cheeks heating up and he knew his ears were already red by now.

Jin's smile widened as he said, "Because you seemed uncomfortable," he explained gently, his gaze softening.

Yoongi blinked at him, processing what he had just said. "What?" He asked.

"I figured you hadn't told Jimin about being marked as a sub, and I didn't want to put you in a position where you felt embarrassed."

Speechless, Yoongi couldn't say anything in return. Well, what was he supposed to say?

Jin smiled warmly. "We need to go to the college soon. We only have a few hours before it starts," he reminded Yoongi gently. "So, get ready quickly."

As he turned to leave the room again, a quiet whisper caught his attention. Turning back, he saw Yoongi, still wearing a scowl but his red ears clearly visible.

"Thanks," Yoongi murmured, his eyes avoiding Jin's gaze.

A soft smile played on Jin's lips as he nodded in acknowledgment. "You're welcome," he replied, his tone gentle. "Just be ready soon."

With that, Jin left the room, leaving Yoongi to prepare.

After an hour, they made their way to the bus stop, Taehyung's nerves palpable as they prepared to go. Waiting patiently, they watched as the bus approached, and they boarded together.

Inside, the atmosphere was tense, with all eyes fixed again on Yoongi. Despite the stares, Yoongi remained unfazed, leaning back in his seat and closing his eyes as if to relax. The drive continued in silence until they reached the college.

With that, Taehyung and Yoongi made their way to the classroom. As they walked, the elder couldn't shake the feeling of someone approaching from behind. Before he could react, he felt a sharp smack on his already bruised back.

Taehyung gasped in shock at the sudden attack made to Yoongi, shooting a glare at the student responsible.

The student continued to laugh mockingly at them, enjoying their discomfort. Tae shot daggers at him. Before he could voice his anger, Yoongi stepped in.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" His voice was firm and his eyes piercing.

The student scowled in response, clearly taken aback by his boldness. His friends quickly came to his defense.

"How dare a first year talk back to a senior?" one of them said.

The rest of the students in the hall couldn't help but notice the commotion as they whispered between themselves.

The senior student stepped closer to Yoongi, "Who do you think you are, brat?"

Yoongi's voice cut through the air. "I'm someone you shouldn't mess with," he said, his words carrying a warning.

The senior student scoffed, "Oh, really?" he sneered. "And why's that? Because you think you're some hotshot first-year?"

Taehyung stepped forward, his expression darkening with anger. "Watch your mouth," he warned, his voice low and threatening.

Before things could get any intense, the sound of approaching footsteps broke through the tension. A professor arrived at the scene and the crowd quickly dispersed.

Yoongi and Taehyung exchanged a glance before making their way inside the classroom. The senior student smirked as he retreated to his own classroom.

Some students whom Taehyung had befriended before waved him over to join them. The younger, gesturing for Yoongi to accompany him, made his way towards them.

"Wow, Yoongi, that was so brave of you to stand up to him!" One of them said.

"Yeah, but be careful. He's a senior, you know? It's better not to mess with him."

"Hey," one of them whispered, leaning in closer. "I heard that senior and his group even have knives and other weapons with them. It's best to stay away from them if you can."

"Don't worry, I can handle myself," Yoongi replied confidently.

The rest of the class was incredibly dull, with neither Taehyung nor Yoongi finding anything noteworthy. As the evening approached and the classes finally ended, they made their way to catch the college bus. Today, Taehyung and Jin had planned to get off together at the next stop, while Yoongi would stop at his usual one.

Exiting the bus, Yoongi made his way back to the mansion, meanwhile the other two remained on the bus as it went away.

Yoongi's steps were steady as he walked with his hands tucked into his pockets. Halfway through, he sensed someone approaching from behind, their footsteps hurried and frantic.

Being curious, he stopped his steps and turned to face who it was but then recognized that it's one of Taehyung's friends from college, his expression full of panic.

"What happened? Why are you here?" Yoongi asked, his voice filled with confusion as he noticed the distress evident on the student's face.

The student's breath came in rapid gasps as he struggled to say his words. Finally, he managed to blurt out, "Something terrible happened! I need your help!"

Grabbing onto Yoongi's hand, he then told him that a senior is bullying his friend inside a basement nearby and asked for Yoongi's help.

Without hesitation, Yoongi followed him, striding purposefully towards the location described. As they approached the basement, the student confirmed that his friend was trapped inside.

Entering the basement, Yoongi was met with an eerie silence, filled with the darkness. Despite his initial confusion and suspicion, the urgency in the student's plea drove him forward.

Before he could do anything, that same student suddenly shoved him with force, causing him to stumble and fall to the ground. Surprised, Yoongi quickly regained his footing.

But before he can utter another word, the student looked at him with a painful expression and said, "Yoongi-yah,

...I am so sorry."

He swiftly closed and locked the basement door from the outside. As the sound of footstep faded away quickly, Yoongi was left alone in the darkness, his senses heightened with the realization that he had been fallen into a trap.
