I smiled at his shocked face as I pushed my way through the doorway and into his study.
I sat down on his chair and looked up at him.
"안녕하세요 아버지, 저를 그리웠나요?"
(Translation: Hello father, did you miss me?)
---
I was calm when I saw Jaekyung emerge from the household with a young boy in tow and blood-splattered clothes.
She must've decided to use a gun in the end.
I internally cringed.
So messy.
I waited patiently with Jamie by my side, as she leisurely walked up the driveway almost as if she hadn't just killed her own father, her own flesh and blood.
I couldn't judge her for it, whoever said blood was thicker than water certainly didn't know the feeling of being abandoned by said blood.
"It's done," she stated when she got close enough.
I nodded my head curtly and turned into the shadows of the streets, leading them to the car and completely ignoring the boy she brought along with her.
Heavy, fast footsteps echoed through the deserted lane as Jamie tried to catch up to me.
"Who the hell is that boy?" He whispered in my ear, making sure that he couldn't be heard by the pair.
"I don't know," I admitted nonchalantly, only focusing on the road we were walking on and making sure that nobody saw us.
"You don't know?" He asked, surprised.
"No."
He scoffed, throwing them a look over his shoulder and consequently getting an elbow in the ribs from me.
"Stop."
"What? For all you know he could be a spy."
I chuckled, the kid looked less like a trained spy and more like he spent his days behind books and computer screens.
"You and I both know that he couldn't be a spy," I said, turning the corner into a darker alley, only looking back to see if the two had followed us.
Satisfied, I turned back.
"It's always the ones that least look it, Ads." His voice laced with something darker.
Always the ones who least look it?
I eyed up his side profile, was he trying to tell me something?
I couldn't dwell on his cryptic statements any longer, I had other things on my mind, the most prominent being the man Mano and I were going to kill tonight.
"Mafia man." I greeted him, receiving an eye roll from him and a small smile.
"Si, carota, that's my occupation, what about it?" He teased, grinning when he saw Jamie's serious and unmoving face.
"Romano, the operation has been carried out," Jaekyung said, drawing our attention to her and her companion.
Romano chuckled.
"You kill one and then bring one back, what are we going to do with you?" Romano cheekily asked before turning to the car and unlocking it.
Jaekyung's lips quirked up at his comment, moving to the car.
"Are you just going to let this random kid in our group? We don't even know who he is!" Jamie said, fury dripping from his words.
The boy froze and slowly looked at Jamie, so frightened that I thought he would collapse on the spot.
Mano's mood didn't change, he kept his stunning smile on his face as he addressed the boy.
"Hey kid, are you a spy?"
The boy's face turned to one of confusion for a second before he realized what Mano was implying and he promptly shook his head.
Mano smiled at his evident fear and gestured for him to get in the car.
Jamie let out a scoff, "are you serious?"
Pure annoyance took over Mano's features and I could only watch as he seemed to snap, grabbing Jamie's colla and pulling him towards him.
"Do I look serious to you?" He seethed, his face so close to Jamie's that their noses were almost touching.
To his credit, Jamie didn't look frightened in the least, his face as void of emotions.
"Just get him in the car," I whispered to Jaekyung, "I'll take care of their pissing competition."
She sent me a relieved smile, pulling the boy into the safety of the car and following shortly after him.
The sound of the door shutting was my cue to take out my knife, the car windows were tinted anyways.
I made my way to Mano's tense figure, silently sliding my weapon around his neck, pressing down slightly so that he could tell I was being serious.
I stood on my tiptoes as I neared his ear.
"If you don't want a repeat of the first time we met, let Jamie go."
A beat of silence passed, before his fist slowly relaxed around Jamie's collar.
If Jamie was relieved, he didn't show it, only shoving past Mano and stomping to the car, muttering under his breath about how stupid we were.
I sheathed my knife and turned on my heel, preparing to get into the car before my wrist was caught by his hand.
"Is it really necessary to pull a knife on me?" He asked, his voice sounding oddly hurt.
I smirked, "I know you like it."
A smile broke out on his face, relief flooding through me.
Hopefully, he knew that I wouldn't kill him over something as silly as Jamie being a dick.
It would have to be for something much more serious.
The car was tense when we got in which made me all the more relieved when we arrived at the swanky hotel.
Jaekyung pulled a jumper over her bloodstained shirt and splashed some water from a packed bottle to clean her face.
"Haneum will stay with me." She stated, before getting out and making her way to her room without another word or look in our direction.
Jamie huffed and left the car, slamming the door behind him leaving Mano and I alone, just like we wanted.
I breathed a sigh of relief.
"He can be such a drama queen sometimes," I said, earning a chuckle from Mano.
We waited for exactly 10 minutes before pulling out of the hotel and back onto the desolate streets.
"Were there any problems with her mission?" Romano asked.
"Yes."
I didn't look at him, only focusing on the few stragglers that were drunkenly making their way down the pavement.
"What happened?"
I sighed, "false information, the family was in the house."
He hummed, trying to keep the annoyance out of his posture but I noticed how his hands clenched the wheel a little tighter than before.
"It's interesting, isn't it?"
I turned my head to look at him.
"What is?"
"That it always happens to be Jamie that falters," he said, unable to keep the venom out of his voice when he said his name.
"Wait, you think he's the mole?" I asked, unable to keep the surprise out of my voice.
"I never said that."
I scoffed, "you implied it."
He turned right down a smaller and darker street.
"So what if I did? Don't you think it's suspicious?"
My mind wandered to the things he was telling me before we met up with Mano.
It's always the ones you least suspect.
If he was sabotaging our missions, what would he be getting out of it?
"Maybe he's being set up." I blurted, grasping onto straws to keep his slate clean.
Mano sent me the side eye, obviously annoyed at my jump to save Jamie's reputation
"We're here," Romano said, snapping me out of my thoughts.
I looked at the building in front of us, exactly like the blueprint I had gotten my hands on days before.
A sinister smile grew on my face.
The real fun was about to begin.
