C༵h༵a༵p༵t༵e༵r༵ 6
I felt something warm next to me.
I must have been asleep for hours, even though last nights conversation left me wide awake. I open my eyes to see a mess of blonde hair curled up next to me.
Lizzie.
She must have dreamed about the plague. Why else was she in my room? I sat up, my mind wandering to yesterday...
The Night Festival! We missed it! All that hard work for nothing! I walked over to the window, careful not to wake Lizzie. I looked outside:
Blood. It stained the streets. A heavy mist was set in the air, and barley any sun reached the ground even though it's around noon. I heard a noise downstairs.
I quickly brushed my hair and got into the dress I bought yesterday. Yesterday. It seemed like ages ago, and yet I still can reflect memories from it. I brushed my hair and carefully made my way downstairs. I expected to see Austin sitting at the table, alone.
He wasn't alone this time.
Kyle sat across from him. They were in deep conversation about something, isn't likely the plague.
I quietly walked in. Their empty bowls and cups sat on the table. To seem polite, I collected them and put them in the sink to soak. I got out two other bowls and filled them with the grainy porridge that we eat every day. I added in some cinnamon for flavor. I was heading back upstairs with the two bowls when I felt a hand on my shoulder.
"Good morning." Said Austin. "Morning." I said back without facing him. " Hello Kyle." I added to be polite. " Hello Alex. I was just discussing with you brother about the Night Festival." I nodded. I didn't want to hear anymore. "Two bowls?" Kyle added. I nodded again. " One for me, one for Lizzie. " I said. The timing couldn't had been worse.
Lizzie ran down the stairs cheerfully. "Morning, Alex! Morning Austin!" She said. She walked over to Austins chair. She slowly looked up at Kyle.
" Hi Lizzie, I'm Kyle, it's nice to meet you." Even though Kyle had his helmet off and was clearly being friendly, Lizzie saw his white suit. She nodded slowly, took one bowl of porridge from my hands, and walked even slower back upstairs. Kyle sat there with his eyebrows raised.
I finally turned to look at Kyle.
" She's quite the socialist, then." He said, and continued talking to Austin. I walked back upstairs with my porridge without being noticed.
I walked into my room.
The first thing that I saw scarred me.
There was a note on my bed.
