TWELVE
WILL'S POV
"She's doing fine. In fact, her family have already made arrangements to take her home," the brown-haired nurse answered as I rolled down the sleeves of my sweater.
Swiftly, I slid off the thin hospital bed and stood.
"Is she out yet?"
The young female, maybe two or three years older than me, shook her head.
"She's in room 211, next floor."
I smiled gratefully, ignoring her lustrous stare on my lips.
"Thanks."
Leaving her in that curtain-walled cubicle, I headed straight for the elevator.
Room 211.
I walked in, running into someone at the doorway.
She dashed to the side at a snap...Unlike most people that'd go ahead with the collision.
Then I noted, it was one of the three new students back at school.
Wasting not another second, the black-haired girl slipped out in such a rush.
Suspense hang in the entire room... The curtains were still shut, making it dim.
Looking at the bed, Ag wasn't there, yet still unmade. "Fuck!" Grunted running out. Had the nurse given me the wrong number?
I attacked the first doctor walking on that hallway.
"There's a missing patient!"
"What?"
"Agatha Cruise, room 211."
"Okay, I'll handle it."
He jumped at the telephone stuck to the wall.
"Missing patient. Room 211. Are there any transfers from it?"
I couldn't wait for his confirmation, I ran for the elevator. Needed to catch the girl that had been there.
Never had Agatha mentioned such cousins. After a thorough research, I could physically identify every relative she had.
But when I got in the ground floor, the sight of her fierce aunt quickly got me dashing in a hallway to hide.
She wasn't supposed to know I was here. Or helped her niece.
Talking to the receptionist, her smooth forehead suddenly succumbed to creases.
She smacked the counter in what seemed to be lava anger. I was too far to overhear her complain, but was sure it was about Agatha's disappearance.
Security guards streamed inside, heading straight for the receptionist counter.
In the fuss, I managed to sneak to the exits. All the way, my head hang, hands pocketed in my jeans.
A wave of cold air engulfed me. Damn! Had forgotten about the shifting seasons. Winter was starting to slow things down up there in the atmosphere.
I increased my pace, hurrying for the highway. Just as I was crossing, black Porsche showed up from the right speeding at me... My feet dashed back, but I'd have been knocked down if the driver didn't make a quick spin of the wheels. The tyres screeched against the road irritatingly.
The driver window lowered.
"Agatha?'
She wore a no-nonsense face, chewing a bubblegum seriously like a villain from a movie.
"Get in the car if you want to live."
Did I really have a choice?
Besides, she's the person I had gone to search for.
As soon as I dived on the passenger seat, she sped off without minding the incoming car. As if car-racing had always been her cup of tea, she easily avoided a possible accident and joined the other lane to head back.
"What the hell?" I bellowed running a hand through my hair.
"Oh shut up!"
The voice had changed... It wasn't Agatha's, not familiar either.
Our eyes met.
A black pair, black as her long hair. "What the fuck?" I jumped edging away from her.
"Oh keep your balls together Mister!" She retorted indecently.
I could hear my loud heartbeats inside my ears. Like a heavy drum set in there.
"Who the fuck are-"
"Shut up or I'll literally fuck you right now."
I stared, shocked. Purely surprised... A minute ago she had been Agatha, or had it been an imagination.
"Now will you tell me where Agatha is?"
"I should ask you. What were you doing in her room?"
She smacked with the bubble gum, so unladylike.
"I get to ask the questions."
"Go to hell girl."
With no warning, she hit the brakes. I could have flown out through the windscreen, but in a blink, she had straddled on my lap with hands clutching the headrest.
Her little summer green dress had ridden up, exposing her pale thighs. For a second, I really thought she'd fuck me.
But from the scowl on her young face, probably not.
"I'll ask you one more time, where is she?"
"Do you really think I'd tell you even if I knew?" I huffed surprised before throwing her off of me. As I reached for the handle, she grabbed my hand and tagged me on top of her.
What was strong with the girl? If she wanted to get laid, two words would have been enough instead of putting me in some compromising positions.
And wasn't she a little too fast and strong for a slim frame?
"Talk!"
I chuckled on her face. "What will you do if I don't?"
"Seems I'm being way too friendly with you, idiot."
At that statement, I was spun around, but my right arm remained trapped between us.
She was dislocating my shoulder. Which was hell painful.
I bit my lower lips hard, bottling up the pain... But she went on pushing my back and pulling my arm.
"Argh! Okay, what do you want?"
"Agatha?"
"I don't fucking know where she is."
She pulled again. Adding more pain that I was sure it'd break.
"You're such a disgrace to humankind."
"Damn you, you illusional being." I cursed when she let go.
After I was seated, groping the pulsing shoulder, my glare arrowed to her. "And why do you even want her?"
At first, she ignored me, just ignited the machine and got back to the highway leading to the outskirts of Black Hills.
"Will you say something?"
"You won't understand. Way too complicated for your simple brain honey."
"Well that's so sweet of you," breathed sarcastically.
"Anyway, what's your deal with her? She your girlfriend?"
"What? No way!"
Heard myself squeak abruptly.
"But you like her."
"Can you get me home now!"
I caught her glance from the corner of my left eye.
"They will come looking for you there."
"They? Who?"
Our gazes met once again.
"Her family. They probably think you know where she is like I do... And, what do you know about them?"
I sucked a single deep breath to cool off the fire inside my chest. "Nothing more than what everyone in Black Hills knows."
When we looked st each other again, she angled her right brow questioningly.
"Which is?"
"Creepy, ruthless and mysterious. Buy Agatha is a totally different person."
"Alex."
I frowned. "My name is Alex," she repeated at ease. Her eyes strictly trained on the road ahead.
"Not bad for a weirdo."
Alex chuckled chewing loudly as if she was only irritating me.
"Sounds like you're a huge fan of Agatha? Does she, well, know?"
I couldn't help but laugh at myself. The last time we had a conversation, she had a clue of how I felt for her. Which was smashed by the last rude statement.
"Maybe."
"Mmm... I wonder what you're waiting for when she will soon be gone."
"Gone where?" It was a clear snap of emotion.
Alex's composed face tilted to my direction. "I thought you two share a connection or something? She would have told you if she really was into you."
I exhaled throwing my eyes to the trees speeding behind us.
"Not a connection. Just a thing of the moment."
Alex exploded in a fine laughter.
"That's the most absurd thing I've ever heard."
"Concentrate on the driving!" I retorted.
