Childhood Bunny
We were inseparable.
I took you everywhere with me,
You were my favorite toy.
Snuggled up to my chest while I slept.
A soft bunny with a round head.
The two black buttons that are your eyes,
Bore no life,
But to me, they did.
You were full of life to me.
Your smell I remember.
Like the smell of soap cleaning clothes.
You were my guardian knight,
Protecting me from the aliens of the night sky.
But time happened,
You decayed and crumbled as the years went on,
Bit by bit falling apart.
The soft white fur you once had turned yellow,
Your smell turned sour,
You lost an arm, you lost an ear,
Your eyes fell off, disappearing, forgotten.
No more soft,
You were hard,
All that was left of you was a single cloth now,
But even that went away.
A small child holding a juice bottle in my left hand,
And you on my right, never knowing the future set in stone.
