Ch. 1: Fortitude

A Contrite Spirit

Hey guys, Charisma here with my new OC Back Story, A Contrite Spirit! This story focuses on the life of Jax, my OC black cat from my PAW Patrol story, Rocky Gone Rogue (please read it before reading this.) Hopefully this will generate views?...I don't know. It doesn't matter I guess; like I've said before, if I can make one person happy, then my writing is not in vain. Anyway, It still would be a big help if you did review, just because, well,...it's a story! Surely you can review it to help out a fellow writer/reader, right? Right? Pllleeeeeeaaaasssseee? Thanks if you do! (Also, in case you didn't know, Jax is the same age as the pups, meaning that at the present, they are 7.)

Disclaimer: I don't own PAW Patrol, but I do own Jax, so if you guys wanna use him in a story or whatever, just ask. I'll probably let you. :)

Chapter 1: Fortitude

Jax was born to a fairly standard family of alley cats living in a small town in southern Alberta, called Chattilan. His parents were amazing, and always loved him and his siblings no matter what. Ironically, both of his parents loved the medical profession; so, they co-founded a small animal shelter/clinic for abandoned pets and other animals in the very same alleyway they lived, adjoining it and combining it to their living quarters.. Jax and his four sisters worked and helped out there their whole lives, fetching (or rather stealing) supplies from other stores and medical facilities, finding what little food they could, and checking up on their clients/patients. Jax and his family loved their way of life, and were honoured to help others in need, but of course did so with a meaning, a small price for their services; food.

Finding food around Chattilan was for some reason extremely difficult compared to other places for "wild" animals. The people were strict, the alleyways never had any garbage lying around for long, and the only dumpsters that no one bothered to empty were in long-abandoned alleys across town, a half hour walk for a cat. Nevertheless, they made do with what they had, and actually fared rather well compared to others in their area because of their so-called business.

Nothing spectacular or interesting ever really happened in Jax's first few years of life, until he was five. He and his father, Piccolo, were about to take a trip to the other side of town to look for food. Business lately had been slow, and the family needed more food to keep themselves and the few patients they had alive and healthy (if you could call eating from a dumpster healthy, but still.) Jax's mother, Angelica, who had the brightest blue eyes for a black cat, gave them a few rations of food for lunch while they were away, and said her goodbyes as the two guys trekked across town, whistling and talking, laughing as they went along. But as they neared, the sounds of gruff chuckling, almost, drunk-like, filled the air. They cautiously rounded the corner to see three humongous bulldogs drinking beer and laughing hysterically at some small kitten, dying of starvation and dehydration. The dogs didn't care; it was more of an amusement as the kitten's strained mews echoed softly in the cavernous space, and instantly both Jax's and Piccolo's training came into action.

"Hey! Leave the little guy alone!" Shouted Piccolo, whose white and black fur coat swirled against the dark stone walls of the buildings surrounding the corridor. "He's just a kitten! He's dying! Have you no compassion?"

"Well, well, well! Looky here fellas, it's a cat! He's so fluffy! Hehe!" The biggest dog, who appeared to also be the most drunk, looked on at the two cats in mere amusement.

"Uuuhhhh, Butch, they're not here for sport. They want us to leave the stupid kitten alone." The smallest of the bunch, who also appeared to be drunk, and had a massive slur that made it near impossible to understand him. "Let's not leave."

"I say we stay and torture them. Kill them!" He said thunderously, and Piccolo's eyes widened and his heart pounded furiously as he tried to figure out a plan against the fast approaching bullies.

The three dogs now began running, barreling down on the frightened duo, and Piccolo could only think of one way out of the current predicament. "Run, Jax! I'll catch up! Just, go!" he screamed, tears threatening to leak from his blue eyes as he got between his son and the bulldogs.

Jax didn't know what to do. He was frozen in fear, staring at the cascade of dogs heading straight for him and his father. But he also knew that he had to unquestionably obey his father; that was one of their family's rules. So, he whirled around and streaked out of the alleyway, looking back and stopping a little ways off, debating whether to go back, disobey his father, and help him. But Piccolo looked back one last time to see if Jax was gone, but when he saw his son, he gave a forced but reassuring smile, and yelled," Go on! I'll be fine!" Jax needed no more encouragement, and raced back down the streets and alleyways to find help.

A/N Chapter 1; complete! Plleeeeeeaaaasssseeee review! I said that in the intro, but I'm saying it again. It'd be so helpful if you did, and would really be appreciated. Thanks. See ya!
