CHAPTER 17

That morning, Cale awoke in someone's embrace. It was warm as he nuzzled his face onto it. Then his eyes fluttered awake, his eyes widened when he saw the face of the man he was hugging. It was the same face of the person who beat him up.

What is he doing here? And what am I doing here with him? This is our estate— his thoughts stopped when he finally connected the dots.

Choi Han is Solaris? Cale thought.

Then Choi Han woke up and he immediately sat up as soon as he saw Cale's expression. He realized the necklace stopped working.

"Cale, let me explain," Choi Han said.

"What is there to explain? Is it fun?" Cale asked, unknowingly his tears started to fall.

Cale was tired and worried sick for his children, then he felt relieved seeing Solaris. He was happy when he showed himself and helped them. But to think the person who has been helping him was Choi Han, he felt betrayed. He didn't expect that he was betrayed once more, by the person he trusted.

"I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to trick you. I just don't know how to approach you," Choi Han tried to explain as he tried to get closer to Cale.

"No, stay there. Please," Cale said as his tears continued falling.

He couldn't stop his tears anymore. It was painful. Hans entered the room and he saw what was happening, he understood.

"Choi Han-nim, it's better for you to stay away from the Young Master," Hans said.

Seeing how calm Hans is, Cale asked, "Do you already know, Hans?"

Hans couldn't answer.

"Please, get out the two of you," Cale said as he placed his palm on his face.

Hans and Choi Han went out. Cale tried to calm his mind. He didn't like that he was being tricked. He hated it. He hated how everyone made a fool of him. Right now, that isn't his priority. His children need him.

Cale fixed himself and went to his children's room. Soleil, Etoile and Ciel were already awake, they were being fed by Melissa, Marley and another servant. Ohn and Hong were also inside the room, eating with them. Some servants were also inside the room to tend to them.

"Mommy!" the children happily called. The servants unfamiliar with this were shocked that the trashy young master was called mommy by the cutest children they have seen.

Cale immediately hugged them and kissed their foreheads. Their fever subsided and they just needed to rest.

"Mommy, where are we?" Ciel asked.

"This is mommy's parents' house," Cale answered.

"Then grandpa and grandma are here? As well as Uncle and Aunt?!" Etoile asked.

Cale showed a sullen expression, which didn't go unnoticed.

"Yes, they are here," Cale forced a smile.

Upon looking closer, Cale's eyes were red. The children believed their mother cried.

"Mommy, are you okay?" Soleil asked.

"Hmm? Why'd you ask? Of course I am alright," Cale smiled. "Don't worry about me, just get well."

After eating, the servants were dismissed and Cale, along with his children, remained inside the room. After a while, the children slept once again. Ohn and Hong were currently reading in the same room as well.

The two siblings could feel what Cale was feeling right now, not because they understood it but they could feel the tension whenever the redhead sighed or just space out.

"I wonder what's wrong with Mother," Hong muttered.

"I don't know, I am scared to ask," Ohn responded.

Then a knock on the door jolted Cale awake from his trance. He instructed the person to enter the room and it was Hans.

"Young Master Cale," Hans called.

Cale wasn't looking at him.

"What do you want?" Cale asked.

Sensing the tension, Melissa, who was behind Hans, immediately took Ohn and Hong to the greenhouse where Cale used to stay during the daytime when he was still living here.

Once the two children were out, Hans immediately kneeled in front of Cale which surprised the latter.

"I am deeply sorry for not informing you about Solaris, I mean Choi Han, Young Master," Hans said. The two of them have been together for quite a time now, he couldn't bear having Cale mad at him.

Cale didn't respond. He just looked at him and listened to what he had to say.

"You and him got closer than I expected when I learned about his identity, I never meant to hide it from you. I just didn't know how to break the truth to you," Hans continued.

"Do you think I will not believe you, Hans?" Cale asked.

"H...That's not it, Young Master," Hans hesitated. He didn't know whether Cale would believe him or not.

"Hans, is that little you think of me?" Cale asked once again. This time Hans raised his head and looked at his young master's expression.

"Do you think I will not trust what you say? Does your credibility not exist compared to the person I just met? Of course I will believe you. I've watched you as much as you've watched me, Hans!" Cale continued. His heart hurts that the person he trusted, trusted him so little.

"I know that you always mean well, I know you are always thinking about my well being. I know how much you keep me away from being harmed. I knew how you protected me and kept my secret from my family, even though you are risking yourself into losing your job. You remained loyal to me. I know everything you've done for me, Hans. Of course, I will put my trust in you more."

Cale broke down. Hans knew that Cale seldom cries, and even if he does that means he was really hurting to the point he couldn't fake his emotions anymore. Hans, who was still kneeling, reached to hold Cale's hand.

"I'm so sorry, Young Master," was the only thing he could say as he placed his forehead unto Cale's hand. He was begging for his forgiveness. If he told his old self about this, I bet his old self will not believe him.

Cale became an important person to Hans, the same way as Hans is one of Cale's important people. It was simple yet Hans failed to realize it. Cale trusted Hans the same way as Hans trusted his life to Cale. Maybe he was still too hung up on Cale's previous reputation that deep inside his head, he was crossing out the possibility that Cale treasured him.

Once both of them calmed down, the two had a proper talk about everything. Hans continued to ask for his forgiveness.

"Young Master, I promise you that my loyalty will be with you. I will never doubt your trust in me ever again," Hans said.

"We will see. It is easier said than done," Cale responded.

Cale's eyes and nose were swollen from crying so much. So Hans excused himself to get some eyes so he could cool his face down.

Unknowingly, Soleil woke up in the middle of their conversation and heard everything they had talked about.

I see, so mommy learned that Solaris is Choi Han, Soleil thought. That's why mommy is sad today.

Soleil sighed quietly. He already expected this, that's why they warned Choi Han. That's why they drove Choi Han away from them so their mother won't get hurt once he learned the truth. They failed to protect Cale's heart. They did everything but it wasn't enough, but that was the only thing they could do for their age.

Be prepared, Choi Han. You may be a hero but no one is allowed to make my mommy cry, Soleil clenched his small fist.

A small fire was lit inside Soleil's heart. This fire will try to consume everything that hinders him or threatens the people he loves. He will never allow anyone to hurt any of his siblings and most especially his mother.

Soleil sat up and Cale immediately saw him.

"Did we wake you up?" Cale asked as he approached him.

Soleil rubbed his eyes and yawned, "no, mommy."

Cale scooped him up and Soleil wrapped his arms around his neck.

"Mommy, your eyes are red. Are you okay?" Soleil asked.

"Yes, I am alright," Cale answered as he gently caressed Soleil's face and kissed his cheek. "Thank you for your concern, Soleil."

Soleil giggled.

"Do you want to eat something?"

"I want something cold, mommy."

"Alright, I'll call someone to prepare you something cold."

Hans came back with ice and a cold dessert. He knew that one of the triplets would be awake by now since it was their habit. He was right when he saw Soleil in the arms of Cale.

Hans gave the cold dessert to Soleil, then he applied the cold compress on Cale's face. Cale groaned in surprise. Soleil was watching the two. Soleil was glaring daggers at Hans, which he noticed immediately and worded: Don't worry, young master. I don't have that kind of intention.

Soleil worded his response in turn: You better be or you're dead to me.

Hans internally cried at how mature Cale's children are. He wondered if that would happen if children were exposed to reading at an early age.

"Haah, it seems Young Master Cale will never get the chance to get married," Hans blurted out, as soon as he realized he immediately covered his mouth. Soleil looked at Hans with a glint in his eyes.

"I-I didn't mean anything about it, Young Master," Hans tried to defend himself.

Cale chuckled, "I wouldn't mind not marrying anyone. Having my children beside me is enough for me."

"You wouldn't know, Young Master. What if someone really wanted to make you their lover and marry you," Hans replied.

"Who would want me, though? I have a bad reputation," Cale shrugged and laughed. "The only good thing about me is my face and my money anyway."

No. There is someone out there who desperately wants you, Mommy/Young Master, Soleil and Hans thought.

They just let Cale think whatever he wanted to think and Soleil just enjoyed his cold dessert. After a while, Soleil wanted to roam around. He was already well enough to move so he wanted to see the manor.

"It's alright, Young Master. I will look after your children here, you can take Soleil around without any worries," Hans said.

"Alright, I'm counting on you. We will be back as soon as he gets tired," Cale responded.

Hans put on Soleil's coat to keep him warm.

Soleil wanted to walk by himself so Cale just let him walk, while he was walking behind him. The servants of the main house were cooing at how cute the little master was.

Is it the rumored child of the Young Master? He's so cute, one of the maids thought.

He's the young master's mini self! Oh my gosh, they're so cute! One of the maids squealed inside her head.

Soleil was walking carefully and not too slow. He was poised and he was carrying himself with dignity, the same way as how Cale walked. Cale didn't notice it but the majority of his habits and mannerisms were passed down to his children as well.

Then, the two of them walked by the big portrait of the family. Soleil saw Cale's parents, as well as his siblings, and Cale himself. He was the only one different with the red hair and he stood out the most. Cale didn't like looking at this portrait as it only showed how different he was from his family.

"Mommy, you are the only one with the red hair," Soleil said. The maids who heard him jolted and snuck a glance on Cale's reaction.

"Yes, I am," Cale responded. "Is it weird?"

Soleil shook his head and lifted his arms, asking to be carried.

"No, mommy. It isn't weird, you look so beautiful in this painting, mommy," Soleil said as he tried to reach his mother's face on the painting.

"You look amazing, mommy. But it would have been better if you were smiling," Soleil added. The maids quietly watched the interaction between the two.

"You look beautiful when you smile, mommy," Soleil continued.

This made Cale smile and chuckle. He was actually aware of his own appearance and the people around him knew it too. It's just that no one would actually dare to say something like this to him.

"Hmm, who knows?" Cale smiled and hugged his son.

Soleil placed both of his palms on Cale's cheeks and kissed him on the forehead as he smiled after. Cale chuckled at his gesture and kissed him on the cheek in return. This interaction made the maids stare in awe. It was the first. It was the first time they saw their young master smile like that. It was the first they saw how gentle he was. It was really nice seeing him like this.

"Mommy, I want to go outside," Soleil said.

"Shall we? I think your brothers are still asleep," Cale responded.

"Yes, they will be sleeping for a while."

"How do you know that?"

"I don't know, mommy. I just felt it."

"Alright, let's go."

The two went out and someone was already waiting for Cale.
