The Moment

I breathed in the aroma of a million crushed beans of coffee, grinning like a maniac. I stood there, mesmerised, starting at my true love, till I felt myself being shoved playfully.

"Akshaya, I swear, if you don't stop blocking the door, I will not buy you coffee." Tara hissed in my ear from behind me.

"Just look at that perfection, Tara! So hot! I wouldn't mind marrying that hotness." I drooled, shuffling towards a table dutifully.

"The sad fact is, she isn't even referring to me, her boyfriend." Raj shook his head, laughing with my friend, before addressing me. "Woman, stop ogling the coffee! The last time, the server was convinced you were talking to him!"

I scowled at the two of them, finally taking my eyes off the steam cup of coffee.

"Why did you ask me to come? I told you I hate being the third wheel." Tara pouted, interrupting my tirade before I even began.

I brightened up.

"Oh, because you need to hear this. You know how I am frightfully good at figuring people out, right? Like that time when I knew we were going to have a pop quiz two days before the teacher told us?" I said excitedly.

Tara looked less than impressed. "You are terrible at reading people. It took you months of him flirting with you to notice that he was interested in you." She pointed at my embarrassed boyfriend, who smiled at me.

"Yes, except that time. Well, I figured it out. Guys, I am a witch." I declared, throwing my arms out dramatically.

"Sure, you are mean, but you aren't quite that bad, honey." Raj said, confused.

"No, I said witch, not the b-word. You know, the kind with wands? Magic?" I said, slightly putout.

They looked at each other, before laughing at my face.

"It is not funny. For example, I know for a fact that you bought two tickets to a Rihanna's concert for my birthday." I stared hard at my friend, reading her thoughts.

She gasped.

I smiled, pleased, but then, she started laughing.

"Oh God, are you nuts? I am broke! The only thing I bought is my cappuccino. Tickets? Pshhh." She sniggered.

Raj laughed right next to her.

"This is your craziest realization yet. You actually thought you were able to read minds?" He panted for breath.

"Remember when she thought she was telekinetic because the pen she was staring at fell off the desk?" Tara added, tearing up.

"Oh, and that time she thought she had super-strength because she lifted the drama class prop? She didn't even realise that it was just cardboard." Raj was hysterical at this point.

I frowned, waiting for the laughter to stop.

"Okay, maybe I was wrong." I admitted, sinking into the cushions of the chair. I couldn't meet their eyes yet, and stared at the table, desolate, when a cup of coffee appeared before my eyes.

Raj smiled at me, amusement lurking in his eyes.

"Stop sulking, and enjoy your coffee. I will go buy those tickets to that concert. Maybe you can see future, not read minds, hey?" He pulled my cheeks, before going back to his own coffee.

That is the moment I realised that I could love something more than coffee.

Or someone, at the very least.

Tara smiled knowingly at me from over her cup, and I smiled back.

A/n:
Okay, so this is just an extremely cheesy thing, I know. I tried so hard, had it proofread by my favorite person, and all that. This is a birthday dedication to a girl called Ridah, who is cute and evil. Oh, and a very great friend.
Happy birthday, you little bundle of evil.
Toodles, people.!
