The Wolf Hero Pt. 6
Chapter 6 - First Day
Ōkami Mochizuki PoV:
My alarm blares through my dream. I roll over and try to ignore the annoying beeping but I can't. I let out an angry, low screech as I slam my hand down on the irritating device. I close my eyes and try to fall back asleep but I remember something important. It's the first day of U.A.!
I spring out of bed and stumble over to my wardrobe. I pull out my crisp uniform and carefully pull it on. Luckily the school knew about my tail and catered to it with the pants. Meaning, that I have a hole for my tail which is awesome because then I don't have to cut it out myself. I run into the bathroom to fix up my appearance. I splash cold water on my face and brush my hair, ears and tail. I walk out of the bathroom and into the kitchen where I see a note on the bench.
I'm so sorry we can't be here to see you off on your first day of school. Sadly, your father and I's work have decided to bring us in early today. We hope you have a good day and you can tell us all about it tonight.
Mom & Dad
I sigh sadly knowing they can't see me off on my first day at U.A., but I'll be ok. They left a note for me so that's good enough, right? I walk over to the fridge and pull out a banana. I then sit at the table and eat my breakfast in silence so silent that I can practically hear it. My bite trespasses the silence's territory but I stay on good terms with it. I finish quickly and stand up, my chair scratching against the ground as I do so. I throw the banana peel in the bin and walk over to the front door where I pull on my shoes and grab my school bag off one of the coat hooks. I grab my house key and walk out of the apartment, locking the door behind me.
I slowly walk to the bus stop where I see Midoriya there. I jump in slight shock when I see him in the U.A. uniform. More importantly, the hero uniform. I cautiously stand next to him as we both scan intently for the buses arrival. When it does arrive, we both jump on and sit in separate spots. Midoriya at the front and myself at the back.
I pull out my phone and browse through Pinterest until the bus comes to a stop near U.A.'s gates. I walk off the bus, giving my thanks to the bus driver and make my way up the small remaining amount of the hill. Midoriya runs off ahead, probably thinking he's going to be late while I peacefully make my way to the classroom. Class 1.A, right? I think that's what my letter said. I walk through rows and rows of classrooms and up many, many floors until I finally find it.
A murky green, around twenty feet tall door with 1.A written on it in big, red box writing. A blue stack of hollow blue boxes is on its left with what seems to be cement behind it. In the middle of the A on the door is another metal looking thing. "I wonder who my classmates are? A giant, I suppose?" I mumble to myself and push the door open to reveal the majority of the seats had already been taken. And I also saw the hot-head.
"What the hell are you looking at, ear freak!?" Bakugo shouts at me.
"Oh, n-nothing. Sorry," I say and walk over to a free seat in the last row on the right. I sit down and store my school bag under my desk. Soon, Midoriya enters right when that blue haired brutally honest guy from the exam starts doing robotic hand gestures and scolds Bakugo.
"Don't put your feet on the desk!" He shouts at the blonde who has his feet crossed over on top of his desk.
"Huh?" Bakugo replies with an irritated smile.
"Don't you think that's rude to the U.A. upperclassmen and the people who made the desk?" The robot guy says as he points to the desk and Bakugo and slightly leans forward.
"Nope. What junior high did you go to, you side character?" Bakugo asks in his usual hatred and gruff tone. Glasses boy stands up straight from the shock, his eyes wide with surprise. Midoriya hides behind the door with a look that he'd prefer to die than enter this room.
Glasses takes a second to think and puts his hand over his heart before saying in an authoritive tone, "I attended Somei Private Academy. My name is Tenya Iida."
"Somei? So you're a damn elite, huh?" Bakugo clenches his teeth together and furrows his eyebrows. He leans forward in his seat, making it squeak a little. "Looks like I'll have fun crushing you."
Iida slightly jumps in shock and what I believe to be disgust. "'Crushing'? That's cruel. Do you truly aim to be a hero?" Bakugo turns away from Iida and lets out a weird noise from probably boredom. Bakugo and Iida's attention draws towards Midoriya. "You're..." he begins and stands as if he's facing the queen. The whole class looks over at Midoriya. Midoriya blushes from embarrassing and his eyes dart to a random part of the room.
"Oh, um..." Iida walks up to Midoriya.
"Good morning!" Midoriya turns to face Iida. This is interesting to watch. I can't wait to find out what happens next. "I am from Somei Private Academy. My name is-" he gets cut off by Midoriya.
"I heard!" Iida freezes almost immediately and Midoriya looks at him with a weird smile. "I'm Midoriya. Nice to meet you, Iida," he introduces awkwardly. Iida seems to gain control of his body and returns to the meeting-the-queen position.
Iida says intensely, "Midoriya, you realized there was something more to that practical exam, didn't you?" Midoriya looks at him, shocked with what he's saying. Iida tilted his head down slightly and brought his shoulders up. "I had no idea..." he brought his hands up towards the boy in front of him. "I misjudged you! I hate to admit it, but you are better than me."
"Sorry. I actually didn't realize anything." A brown haired girl suddenly popped up behind Midoriya with a huge smile on her face. Her sudden appearance scared me, causing me to slightly jump in my seat.
"Oh, that curly hair! You're the plain looking one!" She shouts, unintentionally criticizing the one she was talking about. She had pink spots on her skin and big, orb-y brown eyes and a high but cute voice. Midoriya turns around to face her. "You passed, just like Present Mic said! Of course you did! You're punch was amazing!" Through the two boys, I could just make out the girl punching her fist in the air on repeat.
Midoriya was definitely flustered with talking to a girl. "Oh, well, um, it was thanks to you going to speak with him directly that I, uh..."
While Midoriya spoke, the cute girl repeatedly saying, "Break! Break! Bre-" but cut herself off with a question. "Huh? How did you know about that?"
Bakugo looks kind of pissed to be honest. "Oh, uh, that's because..." I stop listening at that point because it wasn't really necessary. I stare out the window and at the forest of trees that surround the school. A males voice catches my attention. It was way too deep to be a student's voice so I assume it's our teachers.
"Go somewhere else if you want to play at being friends." When I turn around I can't see him anywhere. Weird. Maybe his Quirk is invisibility? Or maybe he's just a tiny midget? The brown cute haired girl turns around and looks at the ground and I follow her line of sight. I can slightly see something yellow but that's it. "This is the hero course." I hear a few weird noises and the three students near the door only seem to get more weirded out by the second. Some rustling is heard and then the yellow thing appears at full height.
Wait! Is that a sleeping bag? Who brings a sleeping bag to school? More importantly, a teacher? It probably has something to do with his Quirk. He appears to be unzipping the sleeping bag as he says in a bored tone, "Okay, it took eight seconds before you were quiet." He steps out of it to reveal his full body. I can only see a light grey scarf and a bit of black. "Time is limited. You kids are not rational enough." A series of weird murmurs erupt around the room. He introduces himself, still sounding bored out of his mind, "I'm your homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa. Nice to meet you." He steps into the classroom and I get a good look at him.
Aizawa wears practically all black except for his scarf. His half closed eyes look strained and sleep deprived. His black shoulder length hair waves behind his scarf. He pulls out a blue uniform with white and red on it and shows it to the class as he says, "It's kind of sudden, but put this on and go out onto the field." I forcefully blink to make sure what I'm hearing isn't part of a dream or something.
~Time Skip and Scenery Change~
The whole of class 1.A stands in the U.A. field. The ground is a tinted yellow, though I can only assume it's made out of sand. A huge white building stands next to us. Mr. Aizawa announces what we are doing and I'm taken back by it. "A Quirk assessment test?!" The class shouts in surprise.
"What about the entrance ceremony? The orientation?" The brown haired girl asks from the front of the group.
"If you're going to become a hero, you don't have time for such leisurely events," Mr. Aizawa tells us while he faces away from us. I can't help but let out a huh? of confusion escape my lips. I can already tell that this teacher isn't laid back. "U.A's selling point is how unrestricted its school traditions are" – he turns his head to face us – "That's also how the teachers run their classes." He turns his full body to face us. "You kids have been doing these since junior high, too, right?" he pulls up a hand-held tablet and shows it to the class. "Physical fitness tests where you weren't allowed to use your Quirks. The country still uses averages taken from results from students not using their Quirks. It's not rational. Well, the Ministry of Education is procrastinating." Mr. Aizawa moves one foot back. "Bakugo, you finished at the top of the practical exam, right?" I turned to look at the back of his head. So spiky... "In junior high, what was your best result for the softball throw?" he asks, still with a bored tone.
"67 metres." Bakugo hunches his back slightly. I'll admit, he can throw far. I think I got 53 metres back in the softball throw but the memories are all a bit foggy.
"Then, try doing it with your Quirk," Mr. Aizawa simply said. Bakugo nods and walks over to the painted white circle on the ground with a softball in his hand. "You can do whatever you want as long as you stay in the circle. Hurry up. Give it all you've got," he explains.
I wonder how far he can throw it? If he's going to shout 'DIE,' like last time? Or is he just going to throw it like a normal person? Probably not. He wants to prove he's the best at everything because he's a cocky guy who probably has an undiagnosed inferiority issue.
Bakugo stretches his arms out as he speaks, "then, well..." He steps forward and I watch his form intensely. He brought both of his hands back and then raised them above his head before lunging forward and blasting the ball as he shouts, "Die!" I watch the ball soar through the sky and turn black from the Bakugo's blast. It disappears from view. I stare in awe at the sky and miss most of what Mr. Aizawa says.
"-foundation of a hero." Is all I catch when I return to my senses. He shows us Bakugo's score and my eyes widen in shock. 150.2 metres?! How am I meant to beat that?!
"150 metres? Seriously?" A yellow haired boy with a black lightning bolt through it says. I can't help but think the same thing as him.
"What's this? It looks fun!" A pink skinned and pink haired girl says.
"We can use our Quirks as much as we want! As expected from the hero course!" A black haired guy says in a tape-y kind of voice. I can't help but gulp at everyone's excitement to do this. I really don't want to. It's embarrassing if I fail.
Mr. Aizawa's aura changes and I shiver from it. "'It looks like fun,' huh?" He asks rhetorically. I perk up slightly, not wanting to get on his bad side. "You have three years to become a hero. Will you have an attitude like that the whole time?" He grins wickedly. Oh shit! This can't be good...
"All right. Whoever comes in last place in all eight tests will be judged to have no potential and will be punished with expulsion," Mr. Aizawa says wickedly but seriously at the same time. I can feel my insides turning at his words, my mouth dry up and my tail go between my legs.
"Huh?!" The class shouts in unison. I can't afford to lose. I can't afford to get expelled on the first day of school. It just can't happen! All my hard work will have gone to waste! I can feel my nerves growing.
"We're free to do what we want about the circumstances of our students." Mr. Aizawa brings his head up to look directly at us. He holds the hair on his face off. "Welcome to U.A.'s hero course!" I calm my racing nerves down and try to look ready, determined and confident in front of my peers.
"Last place will be expelled?" The cute girl asks frantically. "But it's the first day of school! No, even if it wasn't the first day of school, this is too unfair!"
Mr. Aizawa puts her words into perspective. "Natural disasters, big accidents, and selfish villains. Calamities whose time or place can't be predicted. Japan is covered in unfairness." My eyes widen at his words and how true they are. "Heroes are the ones who reverse those situations. If you wanted to go talk with your friends at Mickey D's after school, too bad. For the next three years, U.A. will do all it can to give you one hardship after another. Go beyond. Plus Ultra." Still with a smile on his face, he makes a gesture to follow him. "Overcome it with all you've got."
I can't mess up. This is too serious for me to only put in half of my attention and dedication into. Lives are at stake and I need to save them. So I need to pass this test and get on top of the class. I've worked for agonizing hours to get to this point and I'm not going to let it come to an end now. I clench my fists by my sides and clench my teeth together. I breath in deeply and let it out. I'm determined to become a hero.
"All right, demonstration's over," Mr. Aizawa huffs. "The real thing starts now." He pauses for a bit before telling us the first test is the 50-metre dash which I know I'll do great in, considering my Quirk is Ice Wolf. We line up in pairs. I'm close to the back and am paired up with this guy who is wearing a blue mask and has white hair. Not to mention the many arms he has. A camera stands at the end of the course and at the beginning of it.
A girl with long green hair is versing Iida. I've recently found out that his quirk is engine. That explains the calves. "On your marks... Get set..." The monitor says. It's kind of creepy that it can literally speak. A loud bang rings in my sensitive ears and I cover them. The girl jumps like a frog and Iida runs like a maniac with his quirk activated. Iida reaches the finish line first with a time of 3.04 seconds, the frog girl comes in close with 5.58 seconds.
Then it's the cute brown haired girl who I found out is actually called Uraraka verse this guy with a huge tail. I don't know what their quirks are though. I wish I did. The tail guy gets 5.49 seconds while Uraraka gets 7.15 seconds. Though she was quite slow, she looked really happy with her result.
Next, was that pink skin girl with yellow horns versing a blonde dude with a huge, silver belt. "Everyone, you're not being creative enough," he says calmly and turns to face us with his hands on his hips. "I'll show you what it's like..." he jumps up and activates his quirk before continuing, "to be allowed to use your quirk!" A huge blue beam of light leaves the belts centre. Everyone has such amazing Quirks. Mine's so stupid. I sigh heavily. He falls over after basically one second, letting the pink girl take the lead. The belt guy got 5.51 seconds while the pink girl got 4.32 seconds. "If I shoot for more than one second, I get a stomach ache," he says proudly.
Next up is the hateful duo. The bully and the bullied. Bakugo and Midoriya. I know who's going to win and it's quite evident. I've assessed the situation and know that Bakugo will win because he has a Quirk and has amazing control over it. "Explosion speed!" Bakugo shouts and activates his quirk, blasting him across the course. He got 4.13 seconds. Midoriya sadly got 7.02 seconds.
It's my turn now. I prepare myself to run. I get into position and let out a very quiet growl. "On your marks..." I prep myself. "Get set..." I prep myself even more. "Go!" I push myself off the starting plate and run on all fours to the other end of the course. "5.09 seconds!" The camera thing shouts. I stand up and fix the shambled fur on my ears.
I assess my time and how I could have gotten a better time. If I used my quirk I could've taken a second of it. You see, my quirk, Ice Wolf, along with giving me the ability to freeze my opponents, it also heightens my physical abilities but I forgot on that test. I watch everyone finish their race. Some doing well and others not doing so well.
Our second test is the grip strength test. I'll do well on this one... I hope. We line up in rows of three. I'm at the front of my row. I pick up the grip strength monitor and activate my quirk. I squeeze the thing tightly and wait for the beep to be heard from the thing. I look down at my score. 250 kilograms. "Not too bad..." I hand the thing to this purple haired girl with these weird ears and purple eyes. she's hot.
I stand away from everyone as to not draw attention to myself and wait for the next test. I figure out all of my classmates names from my amazing hearing.
Finally the third test begins. Standing long jump. Something that I'm decent at. I run up on my feet and jump when I reach the line. I land right at the end of the sand pit. Not to shabby. Bakugo and Aoyama, the polite guy who shouts lasers out of his bellybutton don't even touch the sand. As do most people. Midoriya, however completely fails. He doesn't even pass the camera and I honestly feel bad for him.
Test four is repeated side steps. Not my specialty. I step up and am told that I have thirty seconds to do as many side steps as I can. I only get 53.
Then comes the ball throw. Uraraka touches the ball, making it lighter and throws it into the air like it's nothing. She gets infinity. I think her quirk has something to do with either changing somethings gravitational force, or something to do with changing the mass of objects. The whole class flipped out at her result. Kaminari, the black lightning bolt in his hair, says in a shocked tone, "That's amazing! She got 'infinity'!" Midoriya's face contorts into fear.
It's Midoriya's turn now and then it's mine. He walks into the circle and just stares at the ball, getting lost in thought. Probably thinking about what his best course of action is. "It doesn't look good for Midoriya if he continues like this," Iida says harshly with his arms crossed. Bakugo who's standing next to him looks over and gives him a crazy look.
"Huh? Of course not. He's a Quirkless small fry, you know," Bakugo says truthfully. I agree with him. Midoriya is Quirkless but no one else has seemed to figure that out yet. Iida looks at Bakugo in shock.
"Quirkless?! Are you not aware of what he did in the entrance exam?" Iida asks. What did Midoriya do in the entrance exam? How was whatever he did enough to make people believe he had a quirk?
"Huh?" Bakugo mouths my confusion. Our attention turns to Midoriya who brings his arm back, getting ready to throw. He swings his arms forward with a look of determination and as if he had a trick up his sleeve, but when he actually let go of the ball, it was proven wrong. I looked over at Mr. Aizawa who's usual black wavy hair that touches his shoulders is now pointing upwards and his eyes have been wide open.
"46 metres," the measuring machine says. A look of horror sneaks its way on Midoriya's face.
"I was definitely trying to use it just know..." he whispers to himself as he grabs his throwing arm tightly. Mr. Aizawa's scarf starts to fly out around his neck and revealed a pair of yellow goggle things.
"I erased your Quirk," he said simply but harshly. The class looked over at him in shock. He kept a tight hold on his scarf. "That entrance exam was definitely not rational enough. Even a kid like you was accepted."
"You erased my Quirk?" Midoriya asks in a shocked tone. "Those goggles... I see! You can erase other people's Quirks with your Quirk just by looking at them. The Erasure Hero: Eraser Head!" Midoriya recalls.
"Eraser? I don't know him," a males voice says among the swarm of students.
"I've heard of him. He's an underground hero," a female voice replies.
I suddenly smell a strong scent from behind me I quickly glance over and see All Might trying to stay hidden as he spies on us. What the? Why's he hiding? Why's he spying on us? My attention turns back to the confusion between Mr. Aizawa and the class when he speaks. "From what I can tell, you can't control your Quirk, can you?" he asks. Midoriya has a Quirk? Has he been keeping it hidden from us all these years? "Do you intend to become incapacitated again and have someone save you?"
Midoriya clenches his fists by his side. "Th-That's not my intention-" He gets cut off by Mr. Aizawa's scarf pulling him closer to his body. This is intense and everyone can tell. There is tension in the air that we breath in, making us tense as well.
"Whatever your intention, I'm saying that's what those around you will be forced to do," Mr. Aizawa says harshly and brings his face closer to a sweating and frightened green haired boy. "In the past, there was an oppressively passionate hero who saved over a thousand people by himself and created a legend. Even if you have the same reckless valor, you'll just be decked and turn into a useless doll after saving one person. Izuku Midoriya. With your power, you can't become a hero." My eyes widen in shock at what he's saying. All these questions run through my head and I try to tame my loose thoughts.
A determined facial expression pushes its way onto Midoriya's face. Mr. Aizawa lets Midoriya go and de-activates his quirk, now giving him the ability to use whatever quirk he has. He looks down at the ground. "I've returned your Quirk. You have two turns for the ball throw." Mr. Aizawa starts walking away as he finishes what he was saying, "hurry up and get it over with."
Midoriya walks back into the middle of the circle. Iida says to the hot head beside him, "it looks like he received some advice."
At the same time, Aoyama talks to Uraraka, "Are you worried about him?"
"Probably just telling him he's expelled." Bakugo replies to Iida with his hands on his hips.
Aoyama puts his hand on Uraraka's shoulder. "I'm...not at all." He smiles sharply. Uraraka sweats a small bit and looks weirdly at Aoyama.
"Who are you?" She asks sweetly.
"Oh mademoiselle. I'm Yuuga Aoyama." I hear a rush of air and immediately turn my head to see that Midoriya is preparing himself to throw the ball. The class watches intently, all silently cheering him on. He slowly moves the balls force only to his fingertip and flings the ball up with his fingertip. The ground around us gets destroyed from the pressure of his attack.
I stare at Midoriya in utter shock. He has a quirk and no one knew about it? And such a powerful one? Everyone is shocked with Midoriya's capability. Even Bakugo. Mr. Aizawa shows us his score. 705.3 metres. "Mr. Aizawa..." Midoriya begins. He turns around and bites his bottom lip. Midoriya grabs his right wrist and brings it up to show Mr. Aizawa. His index finger has gone purple and is most likely broken. He clenches his fist. "I can still move!" He finishes.
A smile forms on our teachers face. "This kid..." Tears of pain form in Midoriya's eyes but he doesn't let the barricade collapse.
"He got over 700 metres!" Kaminari shouts in shock.
"Finally, a hero-like record!" Uraraka shouts and jumps up and down with her arms in the air.
"His finger's swollen!" Iida points out. "There was the entrance exam, too. He has a strange Quirk..."
"It's not very stylish," Aoyama says.
I decide that I need to say something or I'll never get to know anybody soon. I gulp down my nerves and my tails goes in between my legs. I slowly bring my hands to cup around my mouth. "G-good job, Midoriya!" I shout nervously. He turns to face me with a shocked expression.
"Huh? Mochizuki? You're in this class too?" The attention turns to me.
Uraraka smiles at me. "You're so cute! Those ears and tail! I just want to pat them so bad!"
I stutter over my words for a bit. "Oh, sorry. My name's Uraraka! What's yours?"
"Eh, Ōkami Mochizuki..." I mumble. "I-I don't make much of an appearance even with the wolf features." I smile sheepishly.
Bakugo gets angry and starts emitting small explosions from his palms. Uraraka jumps a bit in shock. "What is the meaning of this!" He starts running towards a scared Midoriya. "Hey! Tell me what's going on, Deku, you bastard!" Before he can attack Midoriya, Mr. Aizawa holds him back with his scarf and erases his quirk. One band around his head and the other around his chest, making him look ridiculous. Bakugo struggles against Mr. Aizawa. "What the-? These cloths are hard...!" his voice comes out strained from the bad position of his neck.
"They're weapons for capture made of carbon fibre woven together with metal wire made of a special alloy. Jeez..." We all look on in nervousness. "Don't keep making me use my Quirk over and over. I have dry eye," Mr. Aizawa says angrily. Well that explains a lot of things...
"It's such a waste, since his Quirk is so amazing!" The class shouts in unison. He de-activates his quirk and his hair gently flows downwards. "We're wasting time. Whoever's next, get ready." He puts his hand up lazily and walks away. Midoriya cautiously walks around a seething Bakugo and towards Uraraka and the others.
"Is your finger all right?" Uraraka asks.
"Oh, yeah," Midoriya replies. Uraraka cautiously makes her way over to Midoriya. I gulp and walk over to the circle. I grab the ball off the ground.
I take a deep breath in and move my feet apart. I activate my Quirk and swing my arm forward with all my might. It soars high in the sky and I don't know when it makes contact with the ground until I get my results. "205.17 metres." I smile. That's not too bad. I walk back over to the rest of my class and Kaminari walks towards the circle.
"Good job!" Uraraka says happily.
The following two tests weren't that bad. We did a sit up test which I did decently in, a seated toe-touch which I failed miserably in and a long distance run which I did exceptionally well in. I was happy with my results.
As we wait for Mr. Aizawa to be ready to tell us our results, a red head, Kirishima, comes up to me. "Hey bro!" He greets with a toothy smile.
"Uh, hey..." I mumble back.
"My names Eijiro Kirishima! What's yours?"
"Ōkami Mochizuki," I reply timidly. I hate how nervous I get around new people. It honestly pisses me off. "Nice to meet you." I look away awkwardly.
"What's your Quirk? Mine's Hardening," he asks.
"That's cool. M-mine's Ice Wolf..."
"Wow! Your Quirk is so cool...! Mine's so lame..." He finishes sadly.
"N-no it isn't! I think it's quite cool, actually!"
"Really? Thanks!" Kirishima gives me a big grin. "I think I've heard of you before..." He thinks out-loud.
"Huh? What do you mean?"
His eyes light up and he gives me a thumbs up. "Good job on getting second place at the practical exam!" I blush.
"T-Thanks..." I mutter.
