The Wolf Hero Pt. 3

Chapter 3 - Practical Exam

Ōkami Mochizuki PoV:

I've been assigned to battle centre C. There are two huge wooden doors that block us from looking inside, but I know it's going to be like a mini city. Everyone who was assigned to battle centre C have travelled here by bus. I can't believe they have more of these on the school grounds.

A buzzer indicates that the battle starts and the wooden doors swing open. I run inside, along with the swarm of other people and activate my Quirk. My finger nails turn into sharp claws. I can feel my skin starting to get cold. I spot a one pointer on top of a near by building. I stop and quickly scan my surroundings. I find a quick and easy route up to the top of the building. I jump on top of a trash can and land on top of a roof. I run over to the building holding the faux villain and climb up a pipe. I stand opposite the robot.

"Target acquired. Commencing attack," it says in an automated tone. It speeds forward and I do the same. I jump onto its head and that's where I freeze it with my low body heat. My Quirk, Ice Wolf, gives me the ability to do things like a wolf and my body heat to drop immensely. Because of this, if you touch me your joints will freeze. I was young when I named my quirk. My mom has a wolf Quirk while my dad has an ice Quirk. We went to the doctors because I was a late bloomer and they said that if I got good enough control over my quirk and advanced it enough, I may even be able to breath ice though I haven't reached that level yet. I immobilise the robot and smile to myself.

"One point in the sack!" I shout happily. I immediately run off to where all the commotion can be heard and spot a three pointer about to strike someone so I take action. I run over to it and scrape a piece of its green ugly armour off. It's attention turns to me.

"Th-Thankyou!" She says and runs away from me and the robot.

"Target acquired. Commencing attack." It looks down at me with its robot like head and is about to step on me but I leap back. I go on all four and spring upwards and towards it. I land on its chest, so I climb over to it's under arm and dig my hands into it. It's joints freeze over and it falls backwards, landing with a crash. I don't waste any more time and run over to others fights and steal their pray away from them, making a lot of people shout at me in anger.

A three pointer hits me while I'm taking out a one pointer. I land heavily on my back and hiss in pain. I slowly get up and lunge for the robot, taking it out almost immediately. "These really aren't difficult to beat..." I mumble through struggled breaths.

One pointers, two pointers, three pointers, you name it. I had them down in seconds flat. I rest my back against a wall to catch my breath and count the points I've acquired. 39...42...50. That's not enough. I run back out into the commotion. A huge zero pointer stomps its way over. A man has collapsed on the ground and is unconscious so I run over to him and pick him up before the robot can crush him. I rest him on a bench and return. I look around and notice that everyone has left because of the huge robot. I look at my watch. Three minutes left. I can do this. Two three pointers, one one pointer and four two pointers still remain other than the zero pointer.

I prepare myself and lunge over to the one pointer, immobilizing it almost immediately. As it falls, I leap over to two of the three pointers and freeze them. The zero pointer runs over to me but I'm not going to let it destroy my point base, so I immobilize one of the two pointers and leap off it and onto the top of the zero pointers head. I lean over its face and stab one of my claws into its red eye thing but it stays standing and moving. I don't waste any time and leap onto its back. I use my claws to unscrew three of the four bolts on one of its plates and crawl inside. Wires fill nearly every section of its insides. I swing up the wires and towards the mother board as I like to call it. A huge black rectangle with shining green lines in it. I rip it off the back and snap it in half. The robot falls backwards just as the buzzer indicates our time is up. I quickly jump out of it and run away from the collapsing metal. It clashes just next to me. I look back and see the few robots I didn't manage to immobilize have stopped moving all together.

"Good job everyone!" Present Mic says over some speakers. "The injured will be treated while the others can go and do what they want! The results for the test will be out in forty minutes!" I de-activate my Quirk and look down at my left arm. It's starting to freeze over.

I walk out of the fighting area and around to the back of the school. The wind blows gently through my hair as questions race through my mind. Will I make it in? Did I score enough? Will all my hard work go to waste? What should I eat? Should I bother to train anymore? How's mom?

I sit down next to my pile of belongings and rest my head against the wall. I grab my drink bottle and down it in mere seconds, some of the water trickles down my chin and onto the grass. I return my drink bottle into my black backpack and pull out my phone. I call my mom.

"Are you ok? How are you? Are you injured? Ōkami, talk to me!" She rambles. I laugh quietly.

"Don't worry mom, I'm fine."

She sighs in relief. "I'm so glad! How did you go? How many points did you get!?"

"I don't know yet. The results come out in forty more minutes."

"Let me know what you get. I have to go now, my lunch is nearly ready." I can sense her smile through the phone. "I love you, honey!"

"Love you too, mom." I hang up on her after that. I lay down on the soft grass and stare up at the clouds. Some I can identify as things but others can only be viewed as big blobs. Before I know it, I've fallen asleep.

By the time I wake up, the sun's starting to set. It takes me a while to realise but when I do, I spring up and grab my phone. It read 5:30. Oh shit! It's late and I don't even know what my score total is! I quickly grab my bag and start running to the bus stop, my legs hurt so badly. I wait for the bus to come for twenty minutes, but it never does. I start freaking out. By now, it is almost completely pitch black. I check the bus app and realize the last bus left forty minutes ago. I chuck it in my pants pocket and start running down the hill, my backpacks contents jingle inside and my ragged breathing just becomes sharper with every step. By-passers give me weird looks as I run. Families are out for dinner and others are returning home from their jobs. I see a group of teenage girls walking down the street, laughing and having fun.

I soon get met with my apartment block but don't waste any time to swing the door open and run up to our small flat. By the time I swing the door open, I feel my lungs compressing and my chest starts hurting. I collapse onto the floor and on my back. I stare up at the ceiling as I try to regain control of my breath. I hate walking around at night. It's not a safe place out there.

I sit up and let my backpack fall off my back. I close the door with my foot, not wanting to get up. I kick off my shoes and force my aching body to get up. I grab my backpack off the floor and walk into my small room. I immediately collapse onto my bed. So tired... I feel my eye lids slowly drooping and I don't fight against it.

Chapter 4: Acceptance Letter

Ōkami Mochizuki PoV:

It has been two weeks since the entrance exam and I'm really nervous. I've been spending most of my time training so I can get my mind off everything but it's not working too well. It's a Saturday and mom and dad are working again while I'm being lazy and watching tv. I haven't moved from the couch in over four hours but I don't care. Some children's show comes on so I grab the remote and skip channels, trying to find one that is interesting and worth while watching. Nothing. Nothings interesting. I groan and turn the tv off. I roll off the couch and lay on my back while staring up at the ceiling. My hand rises with my stomach. My phone beeps on the wooden coffee table above me. I remove my hand from my stomach and pat it on the table. I finally find my phone and drag it lazily off the table. It's a message from dad.

You have to leave the house son and do some exercise.

I groan before replying.

Finnnnneeeee, dad

I force myself off the floor and to my room. I pull on some clothes and runners before running out of the apartment block. The sun beats down on my face so I shield it from the light and squint my eyes. I wait till I adjust to the brightness before running down the stairs and on the streets. I pump my arms at a consistent rhythm. My legs touch the asphalt at a relaxing pace. My breathing stays steady as I run through the deserted streets which is good. I hate training or running in front of others if they aren't doing the same. I run past a huge white modern house and hear a lot of screaming and shouting so I come to a slow stop. I wipe the sweat off my forehead and pant like a dog. I try to swallow but my throat's too dry. the effects of eating buckets of popcorn...

"Stop pestering me, Old Hag!" A boy shouts.

"Don't talk to me like that! I'm your mother!"

"Well then don't take my phone away from me!" His shouting becomes louder.

"Katsuki Bakugo! Don't you dare back talk me!" I hear a light slap and take that as my cue to continue running.

I feel my chest tightening but ignore it. My legs burn underneath me. My breathing becomes rapid real quickly. I collapse onto the grass once I reach the top of the hill. My chest rises and falls at a quick pace. I studied the cotton candy clouds. I let out a soft, croaky laugh at remembering the conversation that hot head had with his mother. He's lucky his mom's home most of the time. I rarely get to see mine but I understand why. Work is all consuming for both of my parents. It's a lot of work for them to provide for our family. That's why I want to become a hero. I want to help out my family anyway possible and also other struggling families.

The clouds scatter in elongated lines across the blue sky. The trees stand perfectly still from the lack of wind.

My phone buzzes in my pocket. I groan from the disruption of peace. I pull it out and stare at the contact number. It takes me a while to register it. I pick up. "Mom?" I ask croakily, my throat still sore from the lack of water and an overdose on sugar. "Aren't you at work?"

"I was let off early today. Where are you?" Mom asks curiously. I prop myself up on one elbow.

"What happened that allowed you off early?"

"Some family business came up so she shut the café down early. I'm at home and you have some mail," she tells me happily.

I jump up on my feet from surprise. "From U.A.?"

"You'll know once you come home."

"Mom!" I whine.

"What, Ōkami?" She teases

"You can't do this to me!" I groan

"Do what? If you want to know then just come home." I growl at her teasingly and hang up. I stuff my phone back in my pocket and sprint back home even if I feel as if I'm going to fall down the hill at any second. I push the door open with all my weight and collapse onto the floor. Mom walks out of the kitchen and greets me. She holds a plain white envelope with a U.A. red sticker keeping the contents contained. She kneels down in front of my tired body, her black hair touching the wooden floorboards and her black ears pointing high. She rests the envelope in front of me before standing back up and closing the front door. I flip over on my back and continue breathing heavily.

Once I caught my breath, I grabbed my mail and stood up. I walked into my room, shutting the door behind me. I place it on my desk and start pacing my room in sweaty clothes, scared about the contents of the letter. "Don't forget to shower, honey!" Mom shouts from the kitchen. I can smell Katsudon boiling away on the stove. My stomach grumbles.

"I won't, mom!" I pull off my black tank-top and throw it carelessly into my dirty wash basket. I open my closet and grab a clean pair of black pyjamas. I'll open the letter after I shower. I walk through to the bathroom and turn the shower taps on cold. I strip of my pants and undies and walk under the refreshing, supposedly cold water. I scrub the sweat off my dirty body and massage shampoo into my scalp gently. The water relaxes my aching muscles. I get drift off into thoughts about the letter.

What's in it? Did I get in or not? What will happen if I did get in? what will I do if I don't? What are the classes like? How are mom and dad going to react? Will they hate me? Or not care? How will I deal with the other students? What kind of hero would I be? What are the teachers like?

A knock on the door snaps me out of my thoughts. "Are you nearly done Ōkami? I need the bathroom," mom says from the other side of the door.

"Uh, yeah. I'm getting out now!" I shout in reply and turn the tap off. My feet touch the warm tiles, contrasting with the cold air. I grab my towel and dry myself off before changing into my pyjamas. I unlock the door and mom immediately runs in and pushes me out of the bathroom before locking the door. I laugh at her reaction and walk into the kitchen to grab a cup of water before heading to my room. As I'm filling my glass up, my mom walks up to me while pinching my tracksuit pants.

"Don't leave your clothes on the bathroom floor," she scolds and hands my pants to me. I turn the tap off and walk into my room. I throw my pants into the washing basket and pick up the envelope on the way to my bed. I sit down on it; my back pressed against the soft pillows and my arms resting loosely on my knees. I flip the envelope around multiple times as if studying it but not quite consuming all the details. I take in a deep breath as I hook my finger underneath the slip. I bring it closer to the sticker and rip it off as I open the envelope. I slowly pull out the contents. It feels cold under my fingertips, like ice but colder. Colder than snow. Colder than falling into a lake in winter. Colder than my own Quirk.

I look at the metal disk. What in the world is this? Suddenly, a projection comes out of it and I jump back in surprise. I see All Might wearing a crisp yellow suit. "I am here as a projection!" He shouts as he smiles his usual smile.

"Is this really from U.A.?! Why is All Might on there?!" I shout in confusion.

He steps back from the camera and reveals a game show kind of background. A golden door frame with red curtains in it and pink, red and orange stripes along the walls with small yellow triangles and squares scattered across the wall. "I cannot talk for long since I have eighteen more of these to make and time is limited," he states.

"What's going on?" I ask as if he'll answer.

"I actually came here to work at U.A., I am here to inform you, Ōkami Mochizuki, that you have been accepted into U.A. High's hero course!" A finger comes in front of the camera. "Wrap it up? Ok." He turns back to the camera. "I have to be quick. School starts in two months and uniforms will be sent to your house."

Then, the hologram disappears.

Ōkami Mochizuki, you have been accepted into U.A. High's hero course.

I drop the envelope on the bed as my hands shake from surprise. The words race through my head on repeat as I try to process the news. "I made it... I made it... I made it!" I exclaim, getting louder with every cheer. My tail starts wagging behind me. I nearly trip over my footing as I rush out of my room and towards the kitchen where mom's nearly finished cooking dinner. "Mom! Mom!" I repeat to grab her attention.

She turns around to me and hums in response. "I made it! I made it into the hero course!" I shout as tears start to well in my eyes from happiness. Mom drops her wooden spoon and starts crying as she runs over to me and pulls my into a deep hug. I hug her back.

"I'm so proud of you," her voice shakes as she speaks after she let me go from the hug.

"Thanks mom... Don't let the food burn," I say cheekily. Moms eyes widen and she turns her attention back to the food. "I'm going to tell dad." I walk off and back into my room where I pull out my phone and dial dads number. After four or five rings, he picks up.

"Hey son, what's the matter?" He asks in a kind and caring tone.

"Oh nothing! I just have some amazing news!" I smile brightly. "I made it into U.A.'s hero course! I really made it!' I shout, probably bursting his ear-drums while doing so. I can hear him gasp in shock.

"Good job, son. I'm so proud of you!" He encourages.

"Hey! Get off the phone and back to work!" I hear a voice order in the background.

Dad chuckles. "Got to go. We'll discuss this more when I get home. Love you, Ōkami." I hear the beep that indicates dad's hung up. I stare out my tiny window from the middle of the room for a few minutes, getting consumed in my thoughts. I shake my head and walk over to my desk. I open my laptop and surf the internet. Memes, clothes, random couples, chickens, goofy faces. You name it. I was looking at it all (obviously not the inapropriate stuff)

The daylight slowly slips away, leaving my computer to be the only source of light in the room. An occasional mouse click breaks through the silence. A knock echoes throughout my room. "Yeah?" I say, still consumed in the funny memes and puns.

"Are you hungry?" Mom asks as she enters my room as if a bear could lunge at her at any moment in time. I look up at her.

"Yes, actually. Is dinner ready?" I ask politely and close my computer screen and the room immediately goes dork except for the hallway light.

"I just finished. Dad will be home soon. Do you want to wait for him? Or..."

"Let's wait for him. It's been ages since we had a family dinner," I say happily.

"Will you help me set the table then?" mom asked.

I stand up and nod at her. I follow her out of my room and into the small dining room connected to the kitchen.

~Time Skip to when his dad returns from getting the milk~

Dad walks through the front door, letting the night breeze flow in. "Hey dad. How was work?" I asked as he sat down at the kitchen table.

"It was good, thank you for asking. Good job for getting into U.A." He replied. We all put our hands together in a praying position and gave our thanks for the meal in front of us.

I ate the soup so fast that my mom thought she forgot to give me food. "When do we buy your school uniform?" Dad asked me as I waited for them to finish.

"They apparently send it to us," I reply. I remember something important. "Oh no! I have to design my hero suit!" I shout in disarray.

"Calm down, Ōkami. You have plenty of time," mom says.

"I have to give them my layout for it by the end of next week!"

"That's plenty of time! Don't get your knickers in a twist!" Mom says. I sigh heavily.

"I'm going back to my room now. Thanks for the meal though." I push my chair back and walk over to the sink with my bowl in hand. I rinse it off and stack it in the dishwasher. I walk back into my room and start thinking about my hero costume.
