The Wolf Hero Pt. 2

Chapter 2 - Entrance Exam

Ōkami Mochizuki PoV:

I wake up to a light knocking on my door. "Ōkami, honey? You need to wake up or you may miss the entrance exam," a sweet voice calls. I groan loudly from my aching muscles.

"Ok mom," I say as I sit up in bed and my many blankets slip down my body. I grab my phone off the charger and check for any non-existent messages since I have no friends. I sigh and clamber out of bed. I pull on my skanky Aldera Junior High school uniform. I put my tracksuit into my school bag and hobble into the bathroom and check my appearance. I take on my father's looks but have my mother's eyes. My short, very light shade of blue hair is going in every direction, including on my pointy wolf-like ears, my odd shaped black eyes hold big bags under them from late nights and early starts, and my unnatural pale skin is slightly darker from the many blankets I'm forced to sleep with every night. I look down at my bushy wolf tail and notice the fur is all mattered.

Apparently I'll die from the lack of heat if I don't sleep with enough blankets which I find absurd but I don't want to take the risk. I run my hands under the taps and splash my face with the cold. I then brush my hair and tail. I brush my teeth and greet my parents in the kitchen. "Morning son," dad greets happily as he takes a sip of his coffee.

"Can I have some of that? Didn't sleep too well last night." I chuckle tiredly. Mom and dad look at me with stern expressions on their fair skin.

"I understand you have been training and studying super hard for this and you must be exhausted, but you're too young to drink coffee," dad reminds. I groan and slump my shoulders.

"We have the Practical Exam today. I need the extra energy boost."

Mom sighs heavily and removes her attention from the pan and to the wooden cupboard above her. She opens it and easily grabs a packet of gummies from the back of the cupboard, top shelf. She closes it and chucks the lollies at me. I stumble as I catch them. "I can't believe I'm saying this. Eat some of those and hope for the best." My eyes light up.

"Thanks, mom!" I sit down next to dad, making sure I don't squish my tail and wait for breakfast. I stuff the packet of gummies into my school bag. She slides a plate of eggs in front of me and I immediately dig in.

He does the dishes

~10 Minutes Later~

"Good luck, honey!" Mom shouts as I walk down the stairs of the apartment block.

"Thankyou mom!" I shout and wave bye to her. I walk down to the nearby bus stop and sit down at the unoccupied bench. A familiar green haired boy sits down next to me.

"Mornin' Mochizuki," he greets. I look over at him and notice how tired he looks.

"Good morning Midoriya." I look back out to the road.

"How are you?" He asks and stands up to attract the bus drivers attention.

"Oh, I'm good but tired," I reply as I stand up and follow him onto the bus. We take a seat near the back of the bus. I pull out my packet of gummies and take one in my mouth. "Want some?" I ask as I move the hand to prompt him. Midoriya looks up at me and gives me a small smile.

"uh, no thankyou... But thanks for the offer!" He replies. I stuff another few into my mouth.

"No problem."

The rest of the bus trip is sat in complete silence, neither of us wanting to be the first to conjure up a conversation. The bus comes to a stop near the huge 3-D 'H' school. Midoriya and I stare up at it in awe. We both gulp at the same time and walk through the gates of U.A.

Midoriya and I walk in at a relaxing pace, though we are both scared shitless. Midoriya suddenly stops but I continue walking. He covers his mouth and whispers, "I swallowed the hair, but did I really receive his power...?" I don't think much of his words. Probably thinking about a video game of some sorts. I do stop when I hear that familiar voice that I hate so much.

"Outta my way, Deku!" Bakugo orders. I turn around and look at the scene as it plays out. Midoriya turns around and grips his school bag straps tightly.

"Kacchan!" He says and Bakugo starts walking forward.

"Don't stand in front of me. I'll kill you." Midoriya starts going crazy and does the Mexican wave with his arms in front of him. I cover my mouth to stop a laugh from escaping

"M-Morning. L-Let's do our best..." Bakugo however, doesn't stop and just continues walking forward. Midoriya finally stops his Mexican wave when he realises Bakugo isn't listening to him. He turns around and I notice the nervous sweat building on his face.

"Hey, isn't that Bakugo? The one with the sludge villain?" A random student asks his friend.

"Oh, he's the real thing!" The other replies. Both of them try to stay quiet as to not draw his attention to them. Midoriya sighs in relief and hunches his back. He shakes his head with a frowning expression. He straightens back up. He looks up at the schools entrance and I notice his legs shaking. He turns around and starts walking forward with an uneasy smile plastered on his face.

Sadly, his moment of joy is ruined when he trips over his own foot, sending him flying into the ground but he doesn't touch it and instead stays floating in the air. I look next to him and see a cute brown haired girl with her hand out. "Are you all right?" She asks calmly. Midoriya is still in shock about him being above ground. He starts freaking out and trying to run in mid-air. I let out a small snicker. The girl grabs onto Midoriya and turns him upright. She then presses her fingertips together and smiles brightly. "It's my Quirk. Sorry for using it without asking first. But it'd be bad luck if you fell, right?" He just stares at her in confusion. "Aren't you nervous?" She tilts her head slightly upwards.

Midoriya starts freaking out. Probably from the realisation that he actually has to talk to a girl. "Uh..."

"Let's do our best. See ya!" She turns around and starts walking towards the building.

Midoriya continues to stand as if he's frozen in time. Then, a weird smile forms on his face and he also blushes. Only god will know what he's thinking about. He draws attention to himself with his overreaction and squeals happily.

I walk inside the school and towards the 'U.A. High School Hero Course Exam Orientation' room that was more like an auditorium. I sit down at the back. The lights are off so it was almost impossible to see, but then the lights turn on one at a time. I think it's for special effects?

A big screen in front of me has the U.A. High School symbol in big gold letters in the middle of it while 'HERO ACADEMIA' which is in a light shade of blue drifts across the screen. A pro hero stands on the stage, more like on a stage on a stage. He has long, tall blonde hair which would really make him stick out of a crowd. I think his hero name is Present Mic, if I recall correctly. "For all you examinee listeners tuning in, welcome to my show today!" He spreads his arms out. "Everybody say 'hey'!" Nobody says anything. "What a refined response," he says while his rms shake beside him. He puts his right hand on his hip and his left up in the air with his finger and thumb out. Present Mic also leans his butt back and his back forward. "Then I'll quickly present to you the rundown on the practical exam!" He draws his left arm down by his side and raises his right. "Are you ready? Yeah!" He says in a strong accent.

Once again, no one makes a sound. I notice Bakugo and Midoriya sitting next to each other in the middle row. I'm glad I didn't sit with them. Midoriya goes complete fangirl mode. In a girly kind of voice, he says, "it's the voice hero, Present Mic! Wow...! I listen to him every week on the radio. I'm so moved! All the teachers at U.A. are pro heroes!" He turns the attention of the people around him and Bakugo tries to shut him up. I can just imaging his expression being one of complete admiration.

"As it says in the application requirements, you listeners will be conducting ten-minute mock urban battles after this!" Present Mic does many different hand gestures. The U.A. symbol on the screen flips around and a light green card with two of the corners having been slightly cut out for effects says 'You Are Here'. It shrinks down as Present Mic speaks, "you can bring whatever you want with you."

Seven grey with green stripes pop out of the green card with letters a-g connecting off one of them, all in a different colour. "After the presentation, you'll head to the specified battle centre, okay?" I look at the bench in front of me and notice a piece of paper flipped downside on it. I pick it up and notice it's my exam ticket. My examine number is 2213 and my test location is battle centre C.

"In other words, they won't let you work with your friends, huh?" Bakugo says to Midoriya.

"Y-you're right. Even though our examinee numbers are consecutive, we're assigned to different battle centres," Midoriya replies. Midoriya looks at Bakugo's exam ticket which pisses him off.

"Don't look. I'll kill you." Midoriya leans away. Bakugo looks back at his ticket. "Damn, now I can't crush you."

I look back up at the screen and see a tiny image of a very small city. "Three different types of faux villains are stationed in each battle centre," Present Mic begins. A silhouette of three robots show up consecutively, their point base increasing with each one that shows. "You earn points for each of them based on their level of difficulty." An old fashioned video game kind of thing pops up. A blocky character of Present Mic walking through a city and a silhouette of a one-pointer. "Your goal, dear listeners, is to use your Quirks" – the video game version of Present Mic destroys the one pointer – "To earn points by immobilizing the faux villains." The video game version of Present Mic destroys a two-pointer and three-pointer. "Of course, attacking other examinees and any other unheroic actions are prohibited!" He points at the crowd.

A blue haired guy raises his hand and shouts, "may I ask a question?"

Present Mic points to him with his index finger. "Okay!" A spotlight falls on the blue haired dude. What the hell!? Isn't that a little overboard? He points to the printout that explains the exam. I didn't even notice we were given one of those until now. I pick it up and notice the same thing that the guy is about to ask.

"On the printout, there are four types of villains. If that is a misprint, then U.A., the most prominent school in Japan, should be ashamed of that foolish mistake." He puts the paper down and rests his hand on his uniform. "We examinees are here in this place because we wish to be moulded into exemplary heroes." He turns around and points to Midoriya. I can already tell that this guy would be hard to work with. Not because he's annoying, but because he's brutally honest. "In addition, you over there with the curly hair-" Midoriya points to himself nervously. "You've been muttering this whole time. It's distracting! If you're here on a pleasure trip, then you should leave immediately!" Midoriya hides his mouth with his hands. I can tell he's embarrassed.

"I'm sorry..." he mutters. The rest of the students snicker at him. I feel bad for him.

"Okay, okay, Examinee Number 7111," Present Mic butts in and moves his hands up and down in a calm down gesture. He then gives a big thumbs up. "Thanks for the great message. The fourth type of villain is worth zero points" – It pops up on the screen – "That guy's an obstacle, so to speak. There's one in every battle centre – an obstacle that will go crazy in narrow spaces. It's not impossible to defeat, but there's no reason to defeat it, either." The game simulation comes back up and shows him approaching the villain but then running away during his speech. "I recommend that you listeners try to avoid it."

The brutally honest blue haired guy bows. "Thank you very much! Please excuse the interruption!" He sits back down.

"I see... It's like the obstacles you avoid in video games, huh?" Some random guy says to the person next to them.

"The whole thing is like a video game," the other guy responds.

"That's all from me! Finally, I'll give you listeners a present – our school motto! The hero Napoleon Bonaparte once said: "A true hero is someone who overcomes life's misfortunes." Go beyond. Plus Ultra!" Present Mic shouts. Plus Ultra pops up on the screen in big yellow writing while other comic design things surround it in a variety of colours. "Now, everyone, good luck suffering!" Present Mic finishes and dismisses us. Everyone rushes out to get changed and ready for the exam.

I rush around the school trying to find a bathroom so I can possibly change. I spot one in the far corner of the corridor. I run over to it and lock myself in the cubicle. I pull out some more lollies and throw them in my mouth before changing into my classic grey tracksuit with a white stripe going down each sleeve and down the outside of the pants. Ever since I bought this a few months back, I have worn it every single time I've done any form of training. I gently pull my tail out of the hole I cut in the pants and walk out of the bathroom.
