An Antonym For Runaway- Part 4

Tommy was suddenly awake when he felt the morning's presence. He shifted his eyes around, panicked, and calmed down when he realized he was home. Techno had left, and Wilbur was holding him in a safe hug as they leaned against the wall. Tommy looked at the clock on his wall read seven-thirty. He poked his brother, "Wilbur," he whispered. Wil stirred, waking up, "Oh, good-morning, Tommy." He said it tiredly, then stretched as he got off the bed. Tommy followed him downstairs to get breakfast.

Wilbur grabbed a carton of eggs, cracking five of them into a pan that sat on the stove. He made a face as he tried to scoop out an eggshell, the egg already cooking around it. He gave up, telling himself to not be surprised if there was a crunch in his food. Wil went over to Tommy, sitting next to him in a chair at the dining room table. They conversed, debating about different things. "What do you think is something that tastes as bad or nearly as bad as it smells?" Tommy asked Wil after he smelled something burning. Wilbur looked confused before his eyes widened in terror. He quickly scooted out from the table, knocking the chair on the ground. Tommy laughed uncontrollably as Wil tried to scrape the eggs out of the pan and onto a plate. When the young blonde's eyes saw the charred bottom of the eggs, he only laughed harder.

"Are you going to talk to Phil?" Wil asked through a mouth full of burned eggs. Tommy looked up from his plate, giving a quick glance to Wil. His gaze went back to his plate of food, picking at the eggs as he nodded his head, humming his response. Wil swallowed and tilted his head, "If you did it willingly, then I think the conversation will go better." Tommy made eye contact with his brother and grinned. He knew that Wil was trying to be helpful and give him a little push, "I'll do that right now." Tommy got up, picking up his plate to empty it in the trash. Before the blonde left the room, Wilbur called out behind him, "See if Techno can come down and make us something, too!" Tommy laughed at his answer, going to the stairs.

The boy went to Philza's door and stood nervously, thinking of what he would say. He took a deep breath and knocked on Phil's door. There were soft footsteps before the door opened, revealing a very tired Phil. On seeing Tommy, he made a winsome smile to try to cover up his regret. Tommy looked up into the man's eyes and whispered a, "Hello," that was barely audible. Phil was hit with a pang of overwhelming guilt, and he pulled Tommy into a hug, "I'm so sorry, Tommy," the man started. The boy was confused, but he gratefully accepted the hug. "After everything you went through, I just-" Phil stammered, but Tommy stopped him. Taking another breath, he looked to Philza, "It's okay, it really wasn't that bad. I should have just told you."

"Yeah, it wasn't that bad, you only broke your arm," Phil said sarcastically, making them both crack up. "I'm still sorry, though," Philza said softly, looking into the young boy's blue eyes. Tommy smiled, nodding his head to accept the apology instead of telling him that it wasn't a big deal, which would have made him more guilty. "Why don't we go wake up Schlatt?" Phil suggested, giving Tommy a pat on the back. It was clear the amount of excitement in Tommy's eyes was great; he had almost forgotten Schlatt had come back.

"Which room is it?" Tommy's question was answered by a swing of a door opening down the hall by the stairs. Jschlatt emerged from the room, fixing a wrinkle on his suit. Tommy brightened up at seeing him and ran over, nearly knocking the man over with a hug. "Good morning?" Jschlatt chuckled, a bit perplexed before readjusting himself to the hug.

"Why do you always wear a suit?" Tommy asked thoughtfully after leaving the hug. Philza burst out in laughter. Schlatt just chuckled, putting his hand on the boy's shoulder as they started downstairs. "Well you see..." Phil heard Jschlatt's voice slowly fade as they made their way downstairs, and he smiled. He was glad Tommy had a friend. The man went to Techno's room, knocking on the door. There was scuffling from inside, then the door opened. Techno stood looking quite tired as he stared at Phil, "Good morning," he mumbled. Phil smiled at him, "Good morning, Techno. Let's head downstairs; I think the others need you to make some food; I thought I smelled something burning." Techno snickered, following Phil downstairs.

(Are you all ready for Cooking With Technoblade II?)

Techno ended up making everyone pancakes. Schlatt had offered to help, but Techno demurred, saying that he was a guest (though he just really didn't want him to mess up anything). The pink-haired boy called for Tommy, asking him to get flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt (if you're ever wondering why people add salt to sweet things or anything, it's to e n h a n c e flavor), buttermilk, butter, vanilla extract, and the carton of eggs. He skillfully added all the dry ingredients (2 cups of flour, ¼ cup sugar, 3 teaspoons of baking powder, ¼ teaspoon of baking soda, and a pinch of salt) together in a medium bowl, mixing it all with a fork. He then added all the wet ingredients (1 ½ cups of buttermilk, a ¼ cup of water, ¼ cup melted and cooled butter, an egg, and a splash of vanilla extract) in a large bowl and whisked them together with the same fork he used to mix the dry ingredients (fewer dishes to be washed). He then gradually folded the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, mixing it until the batter was smooth. Jschlatt watched as Techno skillfully ladled the batter on a hot pan with a thin layer of oil on it, waiting for bubbles in the pancakes to appear, then pop, leaving little dimples in the pancakes. Techno would then thrust the spatula under the cakes with a swift motion and flipped them. He waited for 120 seconds before he took the pancakes off the pan and onto a plate.

"Nice job, Technoblade," Schlatt commented, getting a mocking smile from the boy. The businessman ignored the action and took the plate of pancakes that Techno had handed him. He took it to the dining table, letting Tommy and Wilbur get theirs first (Phil had gone into town to work; he got breakfast from the people at his job). Techno turned off the stove and came over to the table with a jar of homemade maple syrup that quickly disappeared. Jschlatt finished his food, leaning back in his chair, "Well, thank you, Techno. That was delicious." Techno nodded cooly, but he was obviously proud. Tommy and Wil also thanked Techno for the food, making relaxed conversation.
