A Cabin In The Woods- Part 4

Wilbur had a good stroll, the crisp air surrounding him, and the leaves twirling off the trees. He took a deep breath, enjoying the serenity. He wished the others would come for walks more often, it always made him feel content. It was coming to be a year since the group knew each other, and Wilbur felt he should do something for all of them. He already had a song prepared, but he wanted to do something for them individually.

What does Tommy like? Actually, Tommy would probably be the easiest one to please. He always talked about wanting a knife, and he was a lot more responsible than he seemed to be. Wil would get him a pocket knife.

What would Techno like? Techno was a bit harder to read. He wasn't an unfriendly person, he just didn't like interaction with others that much. He knew that he loved pigs, but getting one for him with Phil's permission would be difficult. Then what would he get him? Another ax? No, Phil got him the ax he had now, and he didn't want to disrespect Phil by giving Techno another one. An idea struck him. Techno is like a king. Instead of a crown, why not give him a lovely cape?

Wilbur bounded into town, heading straight for the mercantile. He ordered a nice bit of velvet silk with a string of cotton tufts for the edges. He observed each of the pocket knives carefully to find the perfect one. Stopping at one with a beautifully engraved wooden hilt, he motioned to the storekeeper that he wanted that one, and the storekeeper smirked, "Would you like it wrapped?" Wil nodded, continuing to look around the shop for something that Phil would like. He settled upon a pack of jars that would be useful for them all, for canning, for beverages, for anything really.

After purchasing his things, Wil went back to the house with a large tote bag on his shoulder. He opened the door to see Techno and Tommy asleep on the couch. Phil turned from the stove at the sound of the door opening, "Welcome back! Could you wake them up while I set the table?" Wil nodded, walking over to the two on the couch. He sat the bag in the corner of the room and looked around for something that would make a loud noise. Finding nothing, he decided on ripping the blanket off them and opening the door. The chilly air flushed into the house as the door opened, and the two boys on the couch pulled the blanket closer to themselves. Wilbur took a stride towards them and pulled the blanket off.

"Wilburrr!" Tommy whined. Techno began to slide off the couch, "Where's my ax?" Wil laughed, a bit scared, and ran over to Phil.

"I made pancakes for us all," he grinned as he saw Techno reaching for his ax, "You don't need an ax for this, Techno." They all laughed, moving to the small, circular, wooden table where they would eat their food.

"I got some gelatin yesterday so I could make some blackberry jam. You can spread it on the pancakes if you'd like," Philza said, setting a bowl of hot jam in front of them.

"Thanks, Phil!" Tommy said excitedly, reaching for the jam. Wil smirked, pulling the bowl toward himself. Tommy's finger had already reached the spoon, so the action made the jam fling back onto Tommy's eye. Everyone froze as they waited for the scream. Tommy just inhaled sharply, fumbling for a napkin to clean the burning hot jam out of his eye.

"Ow..." He said, wiping it from his eye. With his one eye opened, he caught Wilbur's terrified face. He could tell that Wil was dismayed at what he had done, "It's fine Wil, it's not even that hot." Tommy smiled widely, pacifying Wilbur's panicked heart. They continued with their food, the atmosphere calm as they made conversation.

Techno scooted his chair out and head for the door, grabbing his ax as he went, "I'll be back soon," he called out behind him.

"Be careful," Phil said, slightly worried. Techno rolled his eyes but reassured him he'd be fine; he couldn't have a more pacific trip. Techno shut the door carefully and strolled into town, his ax over his shoulder. He went to the lumber mill and met with one of his friends, Dream.

"Hey!" Dream said cheerily, "What can I do for you today, Techno?"

"Helloo," Techno looked at the wood around him, "Do you have any balsa wood? I'm gonna try to carve something for my family." Dream grinned, leading him over to blocks of balsa wood.

"These are scraps, so no charge!" Dream explained. Techno smiled and muttered a 'thank you,' grabbing one of the cubes. He marched back home, stopping when he got to a bench he had made and hidden away behind towering trees and bushes. He took Tommy there once when the boy was feeling overwhelmed, making him swear he wouldn't tell the others. He had just hugged him while he talked a torrent of words to Techno, telling him everything he was feeling. No child should have to feel the way that Tommy had felt, but Techno made a promise to him that he would always be there for him, no matter what.

He sat on that bench, setting his ax down beside it, and flicked out a pocket knife he used to carve the wood into the four of them. When he was mostly finished, he covered the wood in a cloth, then a small piece of plastic he had lying around. He then headed back to the cabin, proud of himself for doing something for his family.
