Unrequited
I fell in love with a boy who stands
Like a statue carved by careless hands,
Eyes that drift to anywhere
But never here, and never there.
I speak in whispers, soft and true,
Words like petals drenched in dew;
But he just smiles, that distant smile,
As if my love's a passing trial.
He walks away, his heart intact,
A mystery I can't distract;
While I'm the sun that burns too bright,
He's the moon, lost in the night.
I paint my days in shades of him,
A silent dream, a fervent whim;
But he is cool, a wandering breeze,
I am the storm, he is the ease.
How do you reach a heart so cold,
When every look is bought and sold?
He loves like fire that never burns,
A lesson learned, a lesson spurned.
Still, I linger in his shadowed place,
Searching for signs in a vacant face;
But the more I reach, the more I fall,
For a boy who never cared at all.
