Chapter Fourteen
What Would've Been a Sneak Peek;
Chapter One: Is a Dress too Much to Ask?
I spun around in the mirror of our favorite store while Alyssa clapped her hands.
"OMG, you look so pretty! Let's get this one!"
I laughed her expression, "Lyssa that's what you said for the last seven of the dresses I've tried one!"
She shrugged her shoulders, "You just look good in everything."
"I don't know..."
"Come on, Lylah, just pick one!"
I sighed and looked back to the mirror. I was wearing a pink silky dress that went down just below my knees. The top part just before my waist was covered with sparkling jewels. It was a high, sleeveless sweetheart top. The bottom part was soft ruffles. It was a beautiful dress. Fitting perfectly with the blonde hair and baby blue eyes Lyssa and I shared. I suddenly smiled and turned to Lyssa, an idea in my head.
"I'll get this one if you get the matching purple one!"
She rolled her eyes, but I could tell by her kidding expression and grin that it didn't mean much, "You always want to match, don't you?"
I skipped to the racks and grabbed the matching purple dress and brought it back to her. She held it in front of her and we both grinned like madmen and all but shouted our favorite phrase, "TWINSIES!"
I hastily changed back into my light peach skinny jeans and slightly loose gray shirt. I pulled on my tan suede angle boots after pulling my naturally wavy hair out of the hold of my peach colored infinity scarf.
I left the changing room and walked with Lyssa, who was wearing the same as me, right down to the shoe size.
As we walked to the counter carrying our dresses, my left hand fiddled with my locket. Lyssa and I have matching ones except mine is shaped like a heart and her's is a teardrop. Both are silver with pink sapphire middles. We each carry the key to each other's locket, so if we were ever to be separated, we couldn't open them. Inside was a picture of our family before our mother left. Father says we're a splitting image of her. Says our lockets and gold keys were a gift from her. They're the most expensive thing we owned. I wondered if we'd ever meet her again to thank her.
We payed for our dresses with glee, they weren't that expensive. Afterwords, almost at the same time, we ended up begging each other for food, then deciding to just walk around to the nearest fast food place since we were only 13 and obviously couldn't drive.
We ran across the street when there were no cars coming. I was holding the bag from our dresses. The closest fast food place was McDonald's, so we settled on that. When we went inside, we realized we were the only people there except for these two guys at a table in the back corner. Lyssa said she'd get the food if I got a table, so I headed to the back, only a few seats away from the other people there since it'd make a good place to spy if I got too bored. And with the ADHD Lyssa and I share, that comes easy.
While I was waiting for Lyssa to come back, I looked over to my right at the two guys. They were sitting in a booth across from each other. One had slightly tanned olive skin, as if he had only just discovered the sun. Or just didn't go out much. He had hair as dark as midnight that barely covered the back of his neck. From here his eyes looked black, but I was sure that closer they'd be simply a dark brown.
The other was much more tanned, with golden hair just a bit longer than the other's. I could tell he was taller as well. He had vibrant blue eyes that sparkled as he looked at the other boy. I giggle to myself as I saw that they were holding hands under the table. I quickly grabbed a napkin and a blue pen from my pocket (Why was that there?) and wrote "R U 2 together???" and did my best of folding it into a paper airplane. I threw it over to their table and it landed right between them, startling them both.
I tried to keep a straight face when Lyssa came back carrying our food. "OK, what did you do this time?" She asked me almost immediatly.
"Me? What? Nothing!"
"Does it have to do with why those boys over there are looking over here?"
"What! NO! Maybe?"
She sighed but I could see her glancing from the corner of her eye at the two boys before she whisper yelled at me, "ARE THEY HOLDING HANDS?!"
I nodded.
"Well, don't look now, but the short one looks like here's blushing!"
"REALLY?" I whispered back.
She just smiled. I grabbed another napkin and wrote "OMG! OTP! WE'RE COMING OVER THERE!!!" I folded and threw it to them again.
I watched as the blonde one unfolded it, looked at bit worried, and showed it to the other. He groaned and put his head in his hands. After about two seconds, he did something I honestly didn't expect. He moved over so there was more room on the seat. The blondie did the same. I looked at Lyssa and smiled.
"OK, what did that say?"
I only laughed and grabbed our food and her hand before running over to the boy's table.
I plopped down next to the one with black hair and Lyssa sat next to the blonde one.
I smiled and said "Hey, what's up?"
"Nothing," the golden haired boy told us.
I heard the other boy mutter "Surprisingly," under his breath. I brushed it off as they normally have a bust agenda, but I wasn't sure.
"Anyway, I'm Lylah,"
"And I'm Lyssa," this was basically how we greeted anybody new. We only told our last name, Swanston, to people who know us well.
