Journal Lessons: Simple Ways

S4 E13 everypony! A possible Malibu centered bonus chapter up next or Filli Vanilli, not sure yet.

.....

Today was a big anniversary for Ponyville, as Malibu and his friends gathered with the rest of the town to watch the start of the founding of Ponyville celebration.

Malibu looked up at his mare friend who spoke up. "Wow! I can't believe how many ponies showed up!" She exclaimed.

Pinkie bounces up and down. "I can! I mean, finding out who the Ponyville Days pony of ceremonies is a pretty big deal!"

The teal alicorn looked over how many competitors were there. "It must be popular if even Derpy wants to be a part of it," He said, spotting the grey mare among them, even seeing Granny Smith as a judge.

Twilight was surprised. "I didn't know Granny Smith was on the selection committee." She said.

Applejack nodded. "Of course she is! Ponyville Days celebrates the founding of Ponyville. And she was right there." Malibu smiled, remembering when Granny Smith told her story about it, giving her a wave, and she waved back.

Pinkie Pie was all giddy. "I'm glad the committee didn't automatically pick me so everypony gets a chance to see how great being me actually is! Even though the festival's basically a party and the pony of ceremonies gets to organize the whole thing! So it'd totally make sense if they didn't pick me!"

Malibu and the others shushed her sharply since the ceremony was about to start, Mayor Mare stepping up to the mic. "Citizens of Ponyville, this year's applicants were all exceptional, but there can be only one Ponyville Days pony of ceremonies. And that pony is..." She pulled out a paper.

Pinkie had inhaled, her head expanding like a balloon, making Malibu step back, weirded out and wondering how she did that.

"Rarity!" Mayor Mare exclaimed in happiness, the white unicorn having a hoof on her cheek in surprise, her hoof then being shaken by another pony nearby. Malibu smiled, glad one of his friends was chosen. And Rarity for sure would make this a really great party.

Applejack jumped up and down. "Whoo-ee! Alright, Rarity!"

Rainbow Dash zipped through the air in a loop, "Yeah! Whoo-oo-hoo!"

Twilight gave her congratulations. "Congratulations, Rarity! Do you know what you're gonna do?"

Malibu's ears twitched at the sound of Spike hauling a huge prop of Ponyville over on a rolling table, tilting his head, Rarity smiling knowingly. "Oh, I might have a few ideas." She said.

....

It was now a few days until the Ponyville Days ceremony, and Rarity had been working rather hard on the plans for it. She invited the rest of the Mane 7 to come and see what her ideas were.

Malibu's wings flapped in excitement. "I can't wait to see what Rarity is gonna do!" He said to Twilight who nods. "Me too. I'm glad Rarity was picked. I know she'll add a touch of elegance to the whole thing."

Applejack grinned. "Probably more than a touch."

The group ventured into Carousel Boutique, going to the stage inside, where the lights had been dimmed. Spike came out in a fancy outfit, clearing his throat. "This year's Ponyville Days festival, designed by Rarity, will feature various high class events such as..." He flipped a paper on a stand, showing a drawing. "A silent cider auction and tasting."

"Oooh!" The girls exclaimed while Malibu licked his lips, cider being one of his favorite drinks now next to Rainbow Dash. Spike flipped the paper revealing a drawing of ponies dancing. "A Ponyville gala in town square."

"Aaah!" They all said, Malibu taking Rainbow's hoof, knowing they were both going to be dancing at this one. Spike flipped the last paper, the drawing having a couple ponies in dresses. "And of course, a Ponyville fashion show."

Once again, the group oohed at the idea of it, Spike smiling at the reactions. "This year's Ponyville Days festival pony of ceremonies creates shimmering couture of her own design."

Rarity steps out onto the stage, wearing a shiny dress with many jewels. "And the theme is... 'Small Town Chic'!" She revealed, winking.

Malibu clapped from the presentation. "That sounds awesome, Rar." He praised, making her blush.

Twilight nods. "You really have put a lot of effort into this."

Applejack takes off her hat. "I'll say."

Fluttershy smiles. "Oh, I think it's going to be magical."

Rarity has a hoof on her chest. "Do you really think so?"

The teal alicorn nods in excitement. "Yeah, for sure!" He proclaimed.

It caused the white alicorn to sigh in relief. "Oh, that's such a relief. But of course, I couldn't possibly do it on my own. The festival is in three days!"

Rainbow Dash grins confidently. "Pinkie Pie and I can hang lights and decorations in the town square!"

Applejack steps up. "And me and Mal can get Sweet Apple Acres all ready for the cider tastin'!" She said, an arm around his shoulders, Malibu nodding as he wanted to also try out some of the cider samples.

Rarity's eyes flutter in happiness. "Oh, that's just perfect! And now, Twilight, if you and Fluttershy wouldn't mind helping me with the fashion show..."

Twilight cuts her off. "Of course!" She exclaims helpfully, Fluttershy putting a hoof on her chest now. "I'd be honored."

Turning about, Rarity had a look of determination on her face. "I can focus on the one thing I"m worried about most of all."

The group stared in question. "What?" They all asked, Malibu feeling rather curious himself.

Rarity's cheeks flushed. "Creating a Ponyville Days Festival fantastic enough to impress... Trenderhoof!" She squealed, Malibu's eyebrow raising in confusion. "Huh?"

Applejack agreed with him. "Who's Trenderhoof?"

Rarity looked affronted. "What?! How can you not know who Trenderhoof is? Trenderhoof is only the most amazing, handsomest travel writer to have ever traveled or written! Before Las Pegasus became an Equestria travel destination, he wrote about it! Before the culinary revolution in Trottingham, he discovered it!" She giggled, revealing her what looked like a shrine to the guy, even a lock of his mane too.

Malibu couldn't help the cringe that came on his muzzle from the sight of how much Rarity clearly seems to worship the guy. He wondered though why he hadn't met him yet. "He knows what's going to be hot even before it's tepid!" Rarity simps, giggling while hugging a photo of Trenderhoof.

Twilight went up to her, nudging Rarity playfully. "Sounds like somepony has a little bit of a crush!" She teased.

Rarity ignored the teasing. "Oh, Twilight, 'crush' doesn't even begin to describe it. He's practically divine. I can't believe he's coming!" She squealed in a tittering way.

The rest of the mares and Malibu all cringed a bit from Rarity going overboard with her Trenderhoof obsession until Malibu had an offer. "I-I guess I can help you meet him, if you want," He suggested.

Applejack stared at him. "But aren't ya gonna help me with the cider?" Malibu nods. "Yeah. I'll bring her and Trenderhoof to Sweet Apple Acres then I'll let them be and help you."

Rarity suddenly hugged Malibu in a squeeze. "Ooh! Thank you so much! But we gotta hurry!" She yanked Malibu along with her who yelped in shock.

....

At the train station, Malibu and Rarity both stood there, waiting for it to arrive, Rarity sweating and trembling. "Thank you for coming with me Malibu. I don't think I could have met Trenderhoof on my own!"

Malibu stared down at her in confusion. "It really is no problem. But you shouldn't have to be so worried." He tried to say until the train came, Malibu coughing from the smoke it left.

Rarity looked about for Trenderhoof but couldn't see him yet. "Is that him? Is he there? Malibu, is he there?"

Looking about, Malibu had a hard time picking the guy out since he never saw him before. "Um, I'm not sure."

Rarity blinked in panic, suddenly hugging Malibu's hoof who flinched. "You don't suppose he decided not to come? Malibu, I don't see him! What if he doesn't arrive? The whole festival will be a disaster! MALIBU, WHERE IS HE?!" Rarity suddenly shrieked, making Malibu smile in awkwardness at the crowd who all stared at them both.

The fashion pony noticed, straightening herself and clearing her throat. "Sorry..."

Malibu glared at Rarity after the awkwardness died down. "Rar, you have to get a grip. You haven't even met Trenderhoof yet!" He said heatedly until soon; his eyes spotted a tall lanky looking stallion with brown fur and a hay colored mane, smiling confidently. That must be Trenderhoof.

Rarity looked in Malibu's direction, and instantly had hearts in her eyes, her heart throbbing while staring at Trenderhoof who waved his mane, grinning, teeth sparkling. Malibu's ears lowered, huffing, not seeing what's so great about this guy. Rarity gave a huge gasp, hiding behind Malibu's tail who jumped. "What's wrong now?" He groaned.

"Shh! It's him, it's him, is it him? It's him, he's here, he's here!" Rarity squeaked. Malibu rolled his eyes. "Well, go up and talk to him!"

His friend let out a squeaky sound. "I can't!" She croaked until Malibu had enough, using his magic and sending her out there right in front of Trenderhoof, clearing her throat and laughing nervously. "Uh, hi—. Hello, Mr. Trenderhoof. I am Rarity, and I have been chosen as Pony of Ceremonies for the Ponyville Days festival." She greeted, a flush on her face.

Trenderhoof nods in greeting. "Please, call me Trend."

Just from that, Rarity collapses to the ground in a daze, Malibu face palming himself as Trenderhoof looked at him. "And you must be Prince Malibu, right?"

Malibu nods, helping Rarity to her hooves. "Yeah. Er, welcome to Ponyville." He replied, Rarity regaining her senses and leading Trenderhoof through Ponyville.

She points to where the gala will be. "And over here will be the climax of the festival, the Ponyville Days gala! Music, dancing! And of course, a locally sourced menu of delicious treats." Rarity says, laughing in nerves.

Trenderhoof smiles. "Reminds me of the 'Spring Fling meets Manehattan Wedding' I wrote about in Gallop and Prance." He says in a professional manner.

Rarity flushes further. "Exactly! I, I can't even describe how much your work has influenced me!"

She looks over to Malibu, looking giddy. "So far so good!" She whispers, Malibu shrugging in acknowledgement as they soon headed to Sweet Apple Acres which Malibu was happy to see.

"And finally, Sweet Apple Acres! Ponyville's core so to speak, where our quaint little hamlet began." Rarity introduced, waving over the farmstead.

Malibu watched Trenderhoof look in awe. "Oh, breathtaking! I've heard about it of course, but to see it in vérité, to stand on the soil of a working farm..." He began to feel the soil with his hooves, Malibu cringing. Even though he had no problem with getting dirty, he didn't do it as obsessively as this guy did. "You can really feel the authenticity."

The former gargoyle shrugs with a nod. "I suppose. They really do grow apples here."

Trenderhoof grins in excitement at Rarity. "Thank you Rarity and Prince Malibu. Thank you for bringing me here. This farm is truly something special."

Rarity fluttered her eyelashes. "Oh, I had planned to transform it into an elegant country inn for the festival... but now I see just how special it is au naturel."

The two stared each other in the eyes, Trenderhoof smiling simpingly at Rarity. "Au naturel indeed."

It caused Malibu to feel a little nauseous watching the love scene. Sure it was fine with him and Dash but whenever he saw new blind love like this it made him sick on the inside.

That was when however when Trenderhoof looked past Rarity, spotting Applejack from afar who was getting apples for the cider, his eyes widening in awe, even having hearts in them. "Who... is... that?"

Rarity and Malibu looked at each other in surprise then turning to the sight of Applejack in confusion. "Who? Applejack?" Rarity asked, Trenderhoof pushing her aside, a dopey smile on his face while Applejack wiped her forehead from her labors.

Malibu raised his brow, wondering why a rich famous pony like him would show any interest in a mare like Applejack. "Why do you keep staring at my friend that way?" He demanded, swishing his tail.

Trenderhoof ignored Malibu too, walking slowly towards Applejack. "I've seen a lot in my travels, but I've never beheld such beauty. Applejack... the pony of my dreams..."

Rarity's ears fell in despair, her eyes flooding with tears, and began to run away, Malibu looking after her in shock, running after her. "Rarity, wait!" He called, chasing the white unicorn all the way back to carousel boutique where she rushed in, slamming the door.

Spike had come around that moment, finding Malibu standing there, looking upset. "Hi Mal. What's up?"

Malibu shrugs. "I-I think something is up with Rarity. We should probably check on her." He said, pushing the door open, hearing sobbing from the back room.

The baby dragon stared inside, seeing a puddle of tears on the floor. "Rarity?" He called, him and Malibu tentatively walking towards where she was, lying down on a fainting couch, holding a picture of Trenderhoof. Spike held out his cider cup. "I brought my cider tasting cup. Are you ready to go try the samples?"

It made Rarity sob out loud, knocking the cup out of his hands. "What's the point?!" She shrieked, making Malibu jump back quickly to avoid getting hit. "Ok, what's wrong? He asked, knowing the question already.

The white unicorn made more sniffling sounds. "Nothing!" She whined in a soft way.

Spike's eyes darted about. "Is it something I said?"

Once again, Rarity whined quietly. "He doesn't like me..."

Malibu inclined his ear. "Say again?" He asked in a rather sarcastic way, wanting this over with. "H-he doesn't like me..." Rairty kept squeaking out.

Spike folded his arms. "We can't hear what you're—."

Rarity flipped out again after that. "He doesn't like me because he has a crush on Applejack, even though I've had a crush on him ever since the beginning of time, and it's not fair!" Rarity wailed, making Malibu groan, sliding his hoof down his face. "Rarity, you barely mentioned the guy ever since I've met you." He snapped, making Rarity flinch up and cry more.

Spike said his own piece. "Trenderhoof doesn't like you? That's ridiculous!"

Rarity looked up with her eye shadow leaking with her tears. "Oh, Spike, Malibu, how could you ever know what it's like to be totally obsessed with a pony only to find out they're obsessed with somepony else?" She choked, making Malibu flush but feel grateful he never had to go through that.

There was silence before Rarity spoke again. "I mean, what could Applejack possibly have that I don't?!"

The two glancing at each other, both Spike and Malibu shrugged before Rarity suddenly got an idea, going to her closet then coming out wearing a cowgirl like outfit, Malibu blinking in disbelief. "Uh... what are you going to do dressed like that?" He asked, pointing.

Rarity smiles slyly. "Well, Trenderhoof loves apples it seems, so if I can be as hardworking as Applejack, then he'll like me too! Wish me luck!" She said cheerfully, trotting out.

Spike cringed. "Why do I get the feeling this won't end well?" He muttered to Malibu who nods in agreement, deciding to follow after Rarity to keep an eye on the whole thing.

Soon he managed to follow Rarity to where Trenderhoof was still trying to flirt with Applejack, making Malibu rather angry since she clearly wants nothing to do with him.

"Look, I'm glad you're interested in Ponyville and all, but I'm kinda busy with my chores. And if I can't get 'em done, there won't be a Ponyville Days festival for you to write about." Applejack said, trying to be firm in her rejecting Trenderhoof until Rarity spoke. "Well. That will never do!"

Malibu waved shyly at Applejack after she noticed Rarity in her silly get up, trying not to laugh. "Rarity? What are you wearin'?"

Rairty swished her mane with a grin. "What, this old thing?" She asked flirtingly.

Applejack looked to Malibu. "Did ya have anything to do with this?" She asked in suspicion, making Malibu shake his head no. "N-No, I'm just as surprised as you." He tried to explain.

Still looking at him suspiciously, Applejack turned to Rairty again. "Aren't you too busy plannin' the festival to keep makin' new outfits for it?"

Rarity fluttered her eyes. "I am. But the thought of hauling apples inspired me, and I just couldn't stop myself!" She said, making Malibu want to curl up with his wings in embarrassment.

Applejack's brow went up. "Really?"

The fashion pony nods. "If there's one thing I love, it's hauling apples!" She said, leaning closer to Applejack, Trenderhoof doing the same thing. "I'm growing fond of it myself..." He said rather dreamily.

The orange mare huffed, rolling her eyes. "Maybe you two should try it sometime." She grumbled

Trenderhoof began to suddenly say a poem out of nowhere, Malibu staring. "I'm feeling a tad inspired:

Without farm life, there'd be such disparity

these thoughts I think with great clarity

apples high to the sky,

she's the one of my eye."

He had a hoof under Rarity's chin who was looking even more lovestruck, Malibu thinking she was going to win him over. "That fruit hauling pony named... Applejack!"

It caused Rarity's face to fall, looking like her heart broke in two after Malibu saw Trenderhoof suddenly switch to Applejack, making him wish he had fingers to snap in his frustration. He hoped this would all be done with him helping but nope.

...

In the field near Sweet Apple Acres of all places for Rarity to be, Malibu and Spike both stood there, watching Rarity studying the plowing machine with disdain. "Rarity, why do you want to plow a field?" Spike asked in confusion, Malibu agreeing with him.

Rarity's ears flattened in disgust. "Is this me or could this use a splash of color? And maybe a wash?" She asked in a groaning voice.

Malibu sighed in exasperation. "We don't have time for this. Shouldn't you be checking the gala stuff anyway?" He asked.

The white unicorn nodded, not even listening. "Yes, yes, of course, but Trend obviously has a thing for farm life. If I can't convince him that I'm just as much of a farm hoof as Applejack, I'll never get him interested in the festival."

Spike rolled his eyes. "The festival. Right." It made Malibu laugh silently from his sarcasm as Rarity petted Spike on the head. "And I do appreciate your help ever so much. I couldn't do a thing without you, Spikey-poo."

The baby dragon blushed. "Well, that's what friends are for!" Malibu smirked at him while Rarity climbed onto the plow.

"Right, so." She tried using the plow like a horse and cart. "Come on! Farm... thing!" Rarity sighed in annoyance, Malibu cringing at the sight. "Oh, how does Applejack do it?"

Applejack's voice came from nearby. "Well, it would help if the harness was on right." Her eyes popped. "What are you doin'?"

Rarity smiled. "I am simply lending a hoof with the chores. Which I love doing ever so much."

Malibu saw Applejack huff a little. "Well, if you're still interested after the festival I can teach you all about it. But right now, I need to get the plowin' done if you don't mind." She said, putting on the plow harness, Rarity flying off of it when Applejack began pulling.

It caused the teal alicorn to quickly grab Rarity when she fell, having her look at him in gratefulness while Trenderhoof still kept on staring at Applejack while she plowed. "She makes it look so easy." Spike pointed out, Malibu agreeing. Despite him being an alicorn he figured he could never do a job like this, gargoyle form or no. "I know. Isn't she fantastic?"

Feeling rather queasy, Malibu felt like he needed some apple cider to clear his head, going into the barn to grab a quick glass before going back outside, finding Trenderhoof clapping his hooves after Applejack had bucked some apples off the tree.

Rarity now showed up, raising her brow. "I really don't see what all the fuss is about." She said, tapping a tree with her hoof, trying to figure out how to do it. Applejack walked over to her. "Now Rarity, you be careful. If you don't get the buckin' just right, you could strain a hoof."

Malibu winced when she said that, recalling the time that happened to him when he once wanted to buck trees by himself but he had sprained his hooves for a few days. "You don't need to remind me..." He muttered, Applejack laughing awkwardly. "Sorry."

Rarity swished her mane. "I am perfectly familiar with the apple-bucking process, thank you very much. But while you seem to rely on raw power, I believe a certain amount of style is required." She leaned in towards Trenderhoof. "It's really more of a dance, if you ask me!"

Trenderhoof steps a little ways back from her as Rarity began dancing, Malibu and Applejack looking at each other with weird gazes from this moment until she bucked the tree rather gently, but managed to get an apple into her small basket. "Et voilà!" She cheered.

Applejack shrugs. "Well, your way is definitely long on style."

"Thank you." Rarity said cheerfully. The orange mare went on her way to the chicken coop. "Now, if you'll all excuse me, I have some chores to do."

Trenderhoof began following Applejack into the coop but she turns around, glaring. "Inside!" She closes the chicken coop door shut.

Looking nervous, Trenderhoof began to talk to Rarity. "Rarity, can I ask you a question?"

Malibu cringed, wondering what this would lead too, as Rarity smiled flirtingly. "Oh, why Trend, you can ask me anything."

The brown stallion swallowed. "I've been meaning to ask for a while, and frankly I'm sort of embarrassed. Rarity... do you think... Applejack would be my date for the festival?"

Rarity's ears fell again, anger and sadness in her eyes. "Why don't you go ask her yourself?!" She snarled, huffing and stalking off.

That made Malibu also glare at Trenderhoof who was looking awkward. "How blind are you? Can't you see that Applejack isn't interested?" He snapped.

Trenderhoof's face fell as he walked off in silence, not feeling like speaking, Malibu deciding to wait with Applejack so he could help her out, hoping Rarity would be able to recover from her anger.

Applejack peeked her head out sometime later, looking about for Trenderhoof and seeing her friend's face there with relief. Malibu gestured with his hoof for her to follow, the two sneaking through the trees while Trenderhoof kept trying to buck his own apples then managed to get into the barn.

AJ closed the door shut, smiling in relief at Malibu. "Whew! That was close. Thanks Malibu."

Malibu smiles. "What friends do." He said until he heard Rarity right behind them.

She clearly looked like she didn't recover, looking away from Applejack in her anger. "If you've come to apologize, there's really no need!"

Applejack raised her brow. "What are you talkin' about?"

Rarity scoffed. "Let's dispense with the charade, shall we?"

Malibu stepped in between them. "Rarity, please listen. You're letting this impress Trenderhoof getting to you—." Rarity shoved him aside, glaring at Applejack more. "And he does Malibu! Despite somepony's best efforts!"

Applejack now was looking rather upset. "I swear I don't know why he's payin' so much attention to me. And I don't know any pony who's that interested in farmin'. Not even me!"

Rarity suddenly had an idea in her head. "Well, maybe it's time Trend met a real country pony."

"Shouldn't you be workin' on the festival instead of comin' up with new ways to impress Trend?" Applejack asked, worried at what Rarity was implying, Malibu feeling the same.

The white unicorn began to walk off. "Oh, I'm sure you'd love that. Well, I have a new vision for the festival." She suddenly changed her accent on a dime, sounding like a fake country mare. "And, it's gonna be more country than the whole Apple family put together!"

Malibu blinked, unsure if he heard her right. Did she really want to change herself and her plans for the festival just for a pony she just met? He looked to Applejack. "I'm kind of feeling rather nervous now what she has planned." He said softly from being nervous.

Applejack nods in agreement. "Same here."

...

Some time later in the day, Rarity had called the rest of the Mane 7 back to her boutique to reveal her new theme, Malibu swallowing while standing with the others. Fluttershy spoke up. "Um, isn't it a little late to be changing a theme?"

Twilight herself had questions. "Applejack, Malibu, what's going on?" She questioned.

Malibu cleared his throat. "Long story." He muttered. Applejack flattened her ears. "I'm too scared to guess."

The lights went dim and Rarity spoke, using her new accent. "Firstly, I just want to thank you all for comin', and second, I know y'all will adore my new festival theme!"

Spike appeared, playing a little banjo and wearing a straw hat, the curtain drawing open and showing off Rarity, but not the Rarity Malibu knew, his jaw dropping. "Simple Ways!" Rarity exclaimed, a smile on her muzzle.

Malibu's eyes darted to Applejack who suddenly began laughing, taking in the sight of Rarity's attire which were drooping overall pants, and a crazy straw hat. "Well? What's so funny?" Rarity demanded.

"Rarity, that is the silliest getup I have ever seen!" She chortled, Malibu unable to help the giggle escaping him. He just wasn't used to Rarity wearing such clothes and not in her usual fancy dresses. Malibu agrees with Applejack. "Y-Yeah. You usually never want to touch pants like that." He snickered.

Fluttershy giggled too. "It is a little funny."

Rarity raised a brow. "Fun-nay?"

Twilight Sparkle gave a light laugh. "Rarity, you aren't serious, are you?"

For a moment; Rarity had her normal voice just a couple seconds. "Well, of course I'm serious—." She coughs, making the country accent again. "Why wouldn't I be?"

Applejack went up closer to the stage. "Because you would never dress like that. You like fashion and high society and fancy things."

Rarity's face was heated. "And I can like plowin' fields and haulin' apples just as much!" She sniffed, pushing Applejack's hat over her eyes.

"But you don't!" Applejack stormed. Rarity's nose flared. "How do you know what I like?"

Malibu also spoke. "Because AJ knows you." He tried to persist but Rarity's tail swished his nose. "Wail, maybe she doesn't know me as well as she thanks." she taunted, making Malibu frown, wishing Rarity would snap out of it.

Applejack huffed. "And I suppose it's just a coincidence that Trenderhoof seemed so interested in country life too?"

Rarity looked at her in confusion. "I don't know what you're gittin' at!"

Applejack gave a little smirk. "Well then, I guess I'll just have to show you!"

Swishing her tail, Rarity looked away. "Be my guest! Now, if you all will excuse me, I have a hootenanny of a festival to put on!"

Malibu saw Applejack's eyes glower, a low growl coming from her. Once he and AJ left, he had a question. "How are you going to snap Rarity out of her country problem?" She asked.

Applejack winked at Malibu. "Well, since she decided to change personalities, I figured I would too. C'mon."

The two got lucky enough to steal one of Rarity's fanciest dresses to put on Applejack. At first she was not wanting to put it on then Malibu reminded her that she was doing it for her friend, helping Applejack slip the dress onto her. Malibu had to stifle his laughs, having a riot over Applejack's dress which reminded him of the Sleepover.

Applejack glared back. "Don't laugh." She snarled. "I won't be wearing this for long. Just to show Rarity she doesn't have to go all out like that."

Malibu blushed. "Sorry. Let's get this going." They rushed over to Sweet Apple Acres where Rarity was trying to model the colts for the new fashion show, Malibu spotting Applebloom wearing an oversized hat which made her stumble about.

Rarity looks down at Spike. "Who's our next model for the fashion show?"

Spike gazes at the list in confusion. "Um... Apple... Jewel?"

Rarity raised her brow. "Who the hay is that?"

Malibu dimmed the lights, putting on an announcement voice. "Mares and Stallions, please welcome the world famous Applejewel!" He exclaimed, trying to sound as real as possible, Rarity staring in disbelief when Applejack revealed herself in her dress and heavy makeup, strutting on stage, fluttering her eyelashes."

Rarity stuttered. "Is this some kind of joke?!" She gasped.

Applejack spoke in her now upper class accent. "Why, Rarity? Whatever would make you think I was joking?" She asked in her simpering tone, making Malibu laugh inside, just sitting back now and enjoying the show.

Rarity continued on. "Because you would never wear an ensemble right that. You like plowing fields and hauling apples!" She snapped. Applejack turned away, closing her eyes, pushing Rarity's hat down over her eyes. "And I can like fashion just as much"

Rarity stomped her hoof. "But you don't!"

Applejack grinned. "Well, maybe you do not know me as well as you think!"

Sighing Rarity sits down. "Fine, but I got a whole festival to plan, so if you're going to start modelin', just get on with it!"

Malibu saw Applejack nod, swaying her hips as she started to brag about her false life. "Life is a festival, and you should celebrate it by looking just like me. Because I'm a trend-setting fashionista!" She said, while posing for pictures, Malibu just having to have a camera too and taking them for laughs.

Rarity gawked. "You're a trend setting fashionista?!" She yelled in her normal tone. "Why, that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever—!" She coughed, bringing the accent back. "I mean... good for you. I, on the other hoof, couldn't care less how I look, long as I get the chores done!" She said, scratching herself, then making a honk sound with her nose.

Applejack jumped off the stage. "Oh, is that so?"

"Yes indeedy-doodle!" Rarity said in her goofy way. Applejack gave a little gasp, poofing her mane lightly. "Well, my mane needs to be perfectly coiffed at all times!"

Rarity cringed from her sticky and dirty mane. "Well, my mane is full of dust and split ends."

Applejack held up her hoof, Malibu able to see his reflection. "My hooves are so polished, you can see your reflection in them!"

"My hooves are cracked and dry from working in the fields!" Rarity yelled.

"I'm so fashion forward!" AJ simped, holding a bunch of flowers.

"I wear drooping drawers!" Rarity snapped, showing off her pants.

"I smell like rosebuds!" Applejack sighed, since Malibu had also sprayed her with perfume.

Rarity's eyes bulged out. "I love being covered in MUD!" She screamed, jumping in the air, landing into a muddy puddle in the farm, spreading it everywhere.

Malibu flinched when the mud splattered all over his face, and a small bit of it hit Applejack's dress, staining it brown. He wiped off the mud from his face when Rarity saw, looking horrified. "Oh goodness, your couture!" She wailed, going to try cleaning it, but she made it worse. "Ooh, it's bad." Rarity's voice soon returned back to normal finally. "Will somepony bring me a towel to wipe this repulsive filth from my hooves?!"

Applejack grinned, a hoof around Rarity, Malibu sighing in relief that their plan worked. "There's the Rarity we know!" She stated in triumph.

Rarity looked down in shame. "Oh, Applejack, Malibu, I'm sorry I said all those things. You both are true friends who probably knows me better than I know myself. I don't know what I was thinking wearing this ridiculous outfit." She muttered, staring at the overalls she wore.

Applejack chuckled. "I kinda know how you feel." She said in embarrassment. Rarity smiled. "Oh, but you were just trying to help."

Malibu grins. "I may have helped get the dress for her." He said with an awkward grin.

Rarity admired it. "That gown really does look gorgeous on you Applejack. I wish I hadn't ruined it, Malibu." Malibu simply shrugged. "Just a small mud stain." He said.

"Though the dress is nice, ain't it?" Applejack asked. Rarity nodded. "It's magnificent! Wherever did you get it?"

Applejack and Malibu looked at each other, both wincing. "Oh, it's... one of yours. Really sorry." Malibu said in an apologetic voice.

Rarity's eyes look mortified, and she suddenly grabbed Spike. "I'll need three gallons of boiling water and one ounce of detergent, stat!" She shrieked, Spike saluting. "Gah! Yes, ma'am!" He yelped, running off, Applejack and Malibu laughing until Trenderhoof appeared, wearing his own farm attire.

He cleared his throat. "I'm moving to Ponyville!" Trend proclaimed, making the three friends all look shocked from this. "Being the most interesting pony in Equestria is exhausting. I want to leave my exotic, exciting life behind and live on a farm!" Trenderhoof stated.

"What?!" The three all shouted, Malibu's wings falling down. Applejack gulped, walking up to Trenderhoof. "Well, that's real nice, but I sure hope you weren't thinkin' of Sweet Apple Acres." She stuttered.

Trenderhoof looked down in disappointment. "Oh." Applejack swallowed again, trying to be nice. "Uh, look, you're a fine pony, but, uh, well, I'm, uh..."

Rarity rescued Applejack, delivering her own message to Trend. "I think what Applejack is trying to say that there's something unappealing about a pony who'd change themselves so much just to impress somepony else. If somepony doesn't like you for who you are, it's their loss." She said softly, Trenderhoof taking off his hat.

"Well, this is awkward..." He said, eyes darting about from embarrassment. Malibu shrugs. "At least now we can leave all this behind us." He said, Trend grinning back at him.

Applejack looked to Rarity. "What do you think, Rarity? Is it too late to go back to Small Town Chic?" She asked. Rarity smiled in determination. "Not if I can help it!"

...

Despite it being a close call; Rarity managed to pull the whole Ponyville Days Celebration together right before evening, everypony enjoying themselves for each event.

Malibu's favorite event had to be the cider tasting as well as Rainbow Dash's. They both shared a glass together, even kissing each other after drinking it then dancing during the gala. Rarity had written in the journal before the party which went like this:

"Organizing the Ponyville Days celebration was one of the hardest things I've ever done. But I learned an important lesson. Real friends will like you for who you are, and changing yourself to impress them is no way to make new ones. And when you're as fabulous as I am, it is practically a crime!"

The festival ended with the fashion show where Malibu watched his 6 friends and the CMCs wearing their great outfits, Rarity holding a rose in her teeth, winking to the camera, Malibu knowing he would never forget this event.

....

My writing confidence had been dwindling but I'm hoping it will come back once I'm past episode 17 in this season. I just want to do Twilight's Kingdom so bad.
