Journal Lessons: It Ain't Easy Being Breezies
S4 E16 everypony! Somepony to Watch Over Me is up next!
...
Out in a field on a nice warm day, the Mane 7 were gathering together as Fluttershy speaks up, Malibu wondering what they were going to do. "Ok, everypony. As you know, the adorable fairy creatures known as Breezies will be coming through Ponyville!" She exclaims with a smile on her face.
Malibu jumped a little when Pinkie lets out one of her usual squeals. "Yes! Ooh, this is so exciting! Ah! I can't wait for Rainbow Dash to make the breeze for them so I can see how cute they are up close!" It made Malibu nod in agreement since he had never seen Breezies before, only having heard of them from before Fluttershy's trip.
Rainbow Dash flutters in the air a little. "I've never done it before, not that I'll be totally awesome at it, because I totally will!" Malibu bumps his mare friend playfully. "I'm sure you'll be great Dash." He said, recalling how they had to make a small breeze for the Breezies since their wings weren't super strong.
The yellow Pegasus continued. "And that breeze is very important. But so is cheering on those teeny-tiny little things, so they have the confidence to ride that breeze to their native land." She spots a ladybug from afar. "Did I mention how tiny they are? So tiny!"
It made Malibu chuckle. "Only about 30 times since you returned Flutter," He said, recalling how excited she had been along with a lot of pictures. Fluttershy blushes before continuing. "I was thinking we could do a special Breezie cheer."
The others were confused except Pinkie Pie. "I LOVE cheers!" She shrieked, making Fluttershy hold a wing over her face a little. "But these cheers have to be quiet cheers, we don't want to startle them. They need to be able to concentrate. Why don't we try it? You can do it, Breezies." Fluttershy says as a cheer suggestion.
Malibu and the rest couldn't help it as they all shouted together. "YOU CAN DO IT, BREEZIES!" The gang yelled, making Fluttershy wince. "Oh my..."
Applejack lets out an embarrassed chuckle. "Heh, sorry Fluttershy. I had no idea how hard it was to do a cheer quietly." She said, Malibu agreeing since he often liked cheering for Rainbow Dash especially during that flying competition from a few years back.
Fluttershy giggled. "Oh, it's ok. Quiet doesn't come naturally for everypony. Let's try it again."
Again, the rest of the 7 did their cheer, not as loud but still loud enough. "You can do it, Breezies!" They exclaimed. Fluttershy winced again. "Just a little quieter."
"You can do it, Breezies." The 6 other ponies attempted, but wasn't quite soft yet. "Just a little quieter." Fluttershy said in her softer tone.
"You can do it, Breezies." Malibu and the rest finally said in a super soft whisper. It made Fluttershy rather pleased as she jumped into the air. "PERFECT!" That yell made the rest wide eyed then Fluttershy corrected herself, blushing. "Oh, I mean, yay." Malibu chuckled to himself, knowing they had a lot to do to get the welcome Breezies party ready for tomorrow.
....
Soon the day for the Breezies arriving had finally come. Malibu had been put in charge with Twilight to check on preparations. He watched Rainbow Dash from above with Cloud Chaser and Flitter. She puts her hoof in her mouth then places it in the wind, feeling that the breeze was too rough. "That's too strong!" She instructed. "We gotta slow this breeze down or we're gonna blow the Breezies apart!"
Cloud Chaser and Flitter did so, the three Pegasus flapping their wings as gentle as possible, Malibu nodding in Dash's direction as he went to check on the food from the Cakes, Fluttershy having explaining to them about how the Breezies' pollen worked.
"What I don't understand is why they need the Pegasi to make the breeze for them." Mr. Cake said in confusion, Fluttershy smiling. "Well, you see, it's the breeze that activates the Breezies' magic, and that magic protects their pollen from being destroyed."
Mr. Cake stroked his muzzle. "So, no breeze means no magic means the pollen goes bad?" He asked.
Fluttershy nodded. "That's right! And they only have two days to get that pollen back before the portal to their home closes. That's why it's ever so important that we help them make their way to Ponyville safely."
Mrs. Cake had a look of worry on her face. "Oh, we certainly wouldn't want to scare them and divert them from their path!"
The yellow Pegasus smiles at Mrs. Cake. "Now you understand. And Malibu, this was your first time learning about the Breezies' magic, right?"
The former gargoyle nods shyly. "I'm still trying my best to know about every magical creature here in Equestria since they're all very different from the ones back on Earth." He said until a bright light came in their direction, making him wince, shielding his eyes.
For Rarity was wearing one of her fancy jacket that contained way too many sparkles, and was a vibrant purple. She stands in a pose, fluffing her mane. Fluttershy walks up to her, wearing sunglasses. "Um, Rarity, I, uh, hate to weigh in with you when it comes to fashion, but..."
The white unicorn looked at her jacket. "Oh, there's too much purple on this isn't there? I knew it! But Twilight refused to admit it!" She insists, making Malibu nearly snort with laughs when Twilight looks annoyed. "What?! I—!"
Fluttershy quickly speaks again. "Oh, no-no-no-no. It is the perfect amount of purple. It's just that there is an awful amount of sequence on your jacket."
Malibu agrees, shielding his eyes more. "Yeah, I might have to but on sunglasses too." He puts in as well, making Rarity laugh, booping Malibu on the snout who swishes his tail in annoyance. "Oh darlings, you can never have too much sequence!"
Fluttershy then had another reason. "You can if they reflect the sun, and the light catches a small group of Breezies right in their eyes, and blinds them off their course so they never get home!" She says in a panicked way.
Rarity then had that moment of clarity. "I stand corrected! I suppose there is there is the rare instance when one can have too many sequence. I'll just take off my jacket." She pulls off her purple one only to reveal an even more painfully bright white sparkly one underneath, Malibu yelping in pain when the bright light hit his eyes. Rarity has red on her cheeks from the other's reactions. "I suppose, this won't do either?"
Rainbow Dash soon eventually spots what looks like the Breezies on the outskirts of town, signaling to Twilight who stood on the deck of Town Hall. Malibu had finally gotten his vision back when she starts the cheer. "Everypony, it's time! Please welcome, the Breezies!" She cheers/whispers as Malibu trailed his eyes upward, seeing what looked like tiny butterfly ponies hovering above them, carrying their little packs on their backs. A big smile appears on his face since they were rather cute. He was so focused on watching he didn't even notice Spike who tried to jump on his back. Applejack had started sniffling. "They're as cute as Applebloom on the day she was born."
Rarity nods, pointing out their packs. "And just look at those adorable little packs that they carry their pollen in!"
Malibu saw what looked like the lead Breezie giving out orders to his group in their language, the voice pitch sounding like chipmunks. Next to him Pinkie Pie was rather excited. "So... cute! Can't take... it!" She squeaked, struggling to hold herself in, Malibu praying she didn't scream.
Spike soon had had enough of the crowd of ponies not letting him see the Breezies, spotting a tree nearby and climbing up, hopping on the branch and smiling at the little creatures until he caused a leaf to fall off, the wind blowing it towards the Breezies. His eyes popped from that and Malibu had noticed the leaf too. "Oh no!" Spike screamed.
The lead Breezie turned to see the leaf heading their way and it wound up separating his group from the others, all the Breezies squeaking out from the force of the leaf. Malibu felt horror for the little guys. This wasn't good.
Rainbow Dash pointed to Cloud Chaser and Flitter. "Slow down the breeze for the other group to catch up!" She shouted.
Cloud Chaser shook his head. "They're too far back! We can't connect the breeze to two sets of Breezies!"
Then the rainbow Pegasus had another idea. "What if we sped it up?" Malibu heard Flitter's worried voice. "Then the first group'll be going too fast, and get separated from each other!"
Malibu turned back to the Breezies who were spinning out of control, the leader trying to get them all together as Fluttershy gasped, being the first in the crowd to act and flying to them. The lead Breezie noticed her. "Mekenar stuf!" He shouted in his language that Malibu couldn't understand.
Fluttershy seemed to however. "He's right! You should all gather in as close as you possibly can!" She yelled to the rest, the other Breezies obeying and hovering over near Fluttershy who gathered them up, flying them down to safety which made Malibu feel really proud for her.
The whole crowd including him cheered as Fluttershy flushed while the Breezies kept holding onto her. Malibu rushed over, but making sure not to startle the Breezies. "That was great Fluttershy!" He exclaimed while the lead Breezie eyed him, then spoke to Flutter in his speech again. "Mugudi snaikendus?" He asked.
Fluttershy nods. "Oh, I understand the language of all kinds of creatures!"
Eventually, the leader named Seabreeze huffs, suddenly speaking in pony language that startled Malibu. "You must be so proud!"
"You can understand Pony too?" Malibu wondered in awe, making Seabreeze look up at the alicorn, eventually recognizing him as royalty from what he read. "Yes, I've read Pony language at young age kid. But this lot can only understand you. Clearly, they're not the brightest bunch around." He said, still a little bit stubborn sounding but it didn't faze Malibu in the least. He heard the other Breezies sounding pretty offended.
Pinkie bounced up and down while both Fluttershy and Malibu shielded the Breezies from her. "That... was... AMAZING!"
Rainbow Dash looked guilty. "I'm sorry we couldn't get a breeze going that would get them back to the others," She apologized, Malibu giving her a smile. "Nopony blames you Dash he said, nudging her lovingly and making Rainbow flush.
Twilight walks over, pride on her face. "I, for one, am proud of you, Fluttershy. Leaping into action like that."
Rarity nods, fluttering her eyelashes. "I feel like I should design you a special hero's gown! Heh... or a sash. At least a sash." She said, making Malibu laugh quietly until Spike burst in, sobbing all over. "Ok, ok, ok! I know what you're all thinking! Why don't you just say it?! I'm sorry!" He wailed, covering his eyes that were sprouting tears. "I'm so so sorry!"
It made Malibu give his brother a hug, nuzzling his head. "Spike, please don't cry. I don't blame you, nopony does." He said soothingly, making Spike give him a weak grin. "Really?"
Fluttershy agrees, a hoof on his shoulder. "Yes, it could have happened to any of us."
Spike sniffles then grins bigger. "Oh, ok, thank you!" He hugs Fluttershy tight, almost knocking the Breezies into the wind who all squeaked in fury, making him turn red, shuffling backward. "Uh, I'm just gonna stand way over here."
That was when Rainbow Dash knew they had to make a new breeze for the group. "So, Fluttershy, you want us to get the breeze going again so these little guys can get a move on?"
Malibu watched all the Breezies except Seabreeze make sounds of protest, hugging Fluttershy's leg who looked like she could melt. "Maybe we should wait just a moment or so. They've been through so much."
Rainbow Dash and the teal alicorn both looked at each other in confusion before eventually agreed. "Just gimmie the word when you think they're ready."
....
Eventually the Breezies were moved into Fluttershy's house much to the dismay of her animal friends who had to stay outside for a time. Angel was especially upset as the Breezies took over his bed. Malibu and the others had arrived at the cabin, Applejack knocking. "Hey there! Can we come in?"
Fluttershy nods. "Of course! But watch your step." She advised, having Malibu freeze when almost finding himself nearly stepping on one who was cowering. He smiled apologetically. "Sorry little one." Malibu said, the Breezie giving him a little squeak of saying she forgave him.
Twilight looked over to Fluttershy. "We just wanted to see if you thought the Breezies should give it another try." She said. Fluttershy's ears flattened, Malibu hoping she wasn't getting too attached to the Breezies.
"Oh, has it been an hour already? Oh my goodness! Time flies when you're making sure little creatures don't feel that you're abandoning them to the cruel world." She said in a melodramatic way.
Malibu frowned, not quite buying it. "But, they're not going into a cruel world Flutter. They're going home right? Besides, they have a time limit to get there." Seabreeze had heard his words, smiling that he was defending his desires to get back.
The yellow Pegasus eventually nods. "Yes, that's right..."
However the Breezies minus Seabreeze all let out protesting squeaks, hugging her leg, making Malibu groan a little, knowing it was going to be hard to convince the little guys they had to get going. Fluttershy had given in a little too quickly from their voices. "On second thought, I don't think they're quite ready," She said with a shy grin.
That caused Seabreeze's face to look reddened, beginning to shout in his language, waving his tail. "Supa laipas data kurpa! Mise neku ersken laika maur! Siripat sulat!"
Malibu was confused as he glanced to Fluttershy whose face was mortified from what Seabreeze said. "What did he say Fluttershy?" Applejack wanted to know too but Fluttershy blushed lightly. "I'd... rather not say..." It made the former gargoyle realize that Seabreeze was probably saying swear words.
Applejack shrugged at that moment after. "Ok, well, I'm sure you know what you're doin'. No one knows rare magical creatures like you do." She said, the group heading to the door.
Twilight nods. "We'll just wait for your word."
Fluttershy grins back, slowly closing the door. "Thank you. I'll be in touch very soon." The door closes after that, making Malibu wonder if Fluttershy really would allow the Breezies to go home.
"I hope she doesn't get attached to the little guys since I'm certainly noticing signs." Malibu mumbled, looking over to Rainbow Dash. The rainbow pegasus' ears lowered, slowly agreeing with her coltfriend.
It was at least 2 hours later when her and Malibu both went to go and check on Fluttershy, Malibu knocking on the door. "Fluttershy?" He called, somehow hearing music from inside, wondering what was even going on in there. Fluttershy peeked her head out. "Clock's kinda ticking for the Breezies to get back to their home." Rainbow Dash told her.
Fluttershy smiled awkwardly. "Oh, yes. I mean, not quite. Um, maybe just a few more minutes?" She closes the door right after that, Malibu having a sneaking suspicion she had allowed her attachment to the Breezies to take over her mind. Flitter looked over to the young couple with worry on her muzzle. "WE wait too much longer, we'll have to create such a strong breeze, it may be more than they can handle."
Rainbow Dash nods though her face was full of doubt, as much as Malibu's was. "We just have to trust Fluttershy. She must know what she's doing."
Malibu watched the trio leave before deciding to peek through the window to see what was really going on, pushing it open a tad with his magic so not to startle them. From what he saw inside; the Breezies had decided to throw a party, Fluttershy even dancing with their music until he saw Seabreeze take the saxophone, smashing it onto the ground, making the Breezies give out moans of disappointment.
"Why are you spending your time on this?! I will never get home!" He snapped in frustration.
Then the teal alicorn saw that Fluttershy seemed to agree. "Breezies, I must say, Seabreeze has a point. I think it's time for me to get Rainbow, Malibu and their friends so they can create the breeze for you to get home."
The Breezies then made dismayed nosies, Malibu hoping he didn't have to interfere, willing Fluttershy to stand her ground. "Ooh... you're all awfully anxious... oh, I don't want you to feel abandoned, or that I wasn't the most kind host I could possibly be..."
Eventually one of the Breezies made some squeaks which Fluttershy understood. "Oh, yes, that does make sense. Seabreeze, do you think you could wait just a couple more hou—." Malibu had suddenly spotted what looked like Seabreeze going through the peephole, gliding through the wind as much as he could trying to get home. His eyes widened in horror. One lone Breezie definitely wouldn't last long!
He began flying after Seabreeze who kept trying not to be crushed by acorns, Fluttershy winding up flying beside him. "Fluttershy, what have you been doing?!" Malibu demanded.
It made Fluttershy look sorrowful, tears in her eyes. "I-I might have gotten carried away feeling attached to the Breezies. But we have to save Seabreeze!" She said, her face scared, Malibu feeling his anger slowly fading as the two kept flying where Seabreeze had been gliding, which had him end up running into a beehive.
Seabreeze whimpered in fear, pulling his head out from the hole he made, backing away as the swarm of bees flew closer. Malibu swallowed, not having been really big fans of bees unless they were the bumble kind, feeling himself reluctantly fly over with Fluttershy to save Seabreeze.
"Excuse, me, bees? Can you please back off my Breezie friend? He didn't mean any harm, it was just an accident." Fluttershy tried first, putting up a smile. But the bees didn't listen, readying their stingers, Malibu wincing and readying himself in case he had to either run or shoot magic at them. That was when he somehow saw Fluttershy having put on a bee costume. "I'm working on a bee-type dance and was hoping you can help me? Does this bring to mind any images for you? Perhaps a bee?" She asked, wiggling her fake stinger, Malibu feeling a tiny chuckle, but mostly out of nerves.
But when the bees still didn't hear her, that made Fluttershy snap. "Excuse me! I have done nothing but be kind, but I guess that is not working! You bees know better than to hurt a helpless Breezie! I demand that you go away now, or you'll have to answer to me!" She growled, surprising Malibu but was glad she had been able to use her stare at this moment.
The bees finally went back into their hive, Seabreeze looking gratefully at them. "Are you ok?" Malibu asked in concern, making him nod, tears in his eyes. "Menkyulen. Thank you! Thank you both so much! Thank you for coming after me!"
Fluttershy smiled. "Of course, you could have gotten seriously hurt out there. Ponyville is much too dangerous for you. One tiny acorn is a threat."
Malibu recalled those acorns having nearly squashed the little guy, knowing they had to get them home soon. "Yeah! I know! That is one reason why I have been trying to get us to go from the beginning!" Seabreeze argued.
The yellow Pegasus lowered her ears again. "Oh, my goodness. I guess I was just trying not to hurt any creature's feelings. My displays of kindness might have cost you everything. Time is running out, and you may never get home!" Fluttershy whimpered, Malibu putting a comforting hoof around her.
Seabreeze nods but his tears still fell. "That is exactly what I have been telling all of them! But they do not listen to me! No Breezie ever listens to me!" He screamed, turning around in sadness.
Malibu felt pity for Seabreeze. "I'm sorry that you've been hurt Seabreeze." He said gently, as Fluttershy continued. "But it is hard for the others to hear you when you're shouting and being mean. The message doesn't get across."
The lead Breezie points to the hive. "But what about those bees? You were not nice to them, and that was the only way they listened."
That was when Fluttershy spoke one phrase which symbolized her Element of Harmony. "Yes. But they had to go. And they wouldn't listen to me any other way." Malibu's eyes widened when to his amazement; he spotted that same rainbow shimmer again in Fluttershy's eyes. It had happened with his previous friends except him, Applejack and Twilight. Which one of them will be next?
"We have to go! Now!" Fluttershy exclaimed, picking up Seabreeze and began flying back with Malibu beside her. Seabreeze was almost falling off from how fast she was flying until she halted, doing a small flutter on the way back home. Malibu ran from there to get Rainbow and the other two pegasi so they could practice making the breeze. "Fluttershy is going to have the Breezies go home, let's get that breeze started now!" He said, Rainbow Dash saluting after Fluttershy had managed to get the Breezies to leave her house.
But unfortunately for the pegasi the wind had been too strong to start, Rainbow Dash putting a wet hoof in the wind. "It's too strong!"
Flitter grunted, trying to flap her wings light. "I can't do it any lighter!" She shouted, Cloud Chaser agreeing with her. Malibu looked down at the Breezies who were rather scared.
Fluttershy's face was worried. "Oh, my. Maybe it's because there are too few of them. When they started their journey, there was more of them to face the breeze together."
Twilight tapped her chin, Malibu wondering what she had in mind. "I've been studying this spell book from the Castle of the Two Sisters. There's a spell I think that can help us! This is probably gonna feel a little funny at first, but you're gonna have to trust me." She said to the other 6, Malibu's heart thumping at what it could be. "Twi, what crazy idea do you have now?"
Before she could answer, Pinkie bounces in front of Malibu. "I love new ideas that make me feel funny at first!" She squealed, Malibu rolling his eyes.
The mulberry alicorn charged up her horn, making them all gasp, Malibu tensing from the laser striking his body and making it glow. She next shoots it at the Breezies, and it made all of the Mane 7 float in the air. Nothing happened for a moment until Malibu yelped, his stomach gurgling, and his wings transforming into butterfly like ones, antenna shooting out of his forehead, and his body shrinking. It happened with the rest of his friends too, and Malibu's voice grew all squeaky like a Breezie. Which they happened to all turn into.
Malibu let out a squeaky voice of surprise and amazement when staring down at his own Breezie body, Fluttershy hovering by the real ones. This was something he didn't think he could experience! "Maifa flai batendud!" She squeaked in the language that nopony else could make out, making her giggle in awkwardness. "I mean, let's go."
The whole group began to hover away with the Pegasus breeze, Malibu whispering to her. "You really gotta teach me that language." He said, making her nod to him as the two glided beside Seabreeze on the way to their land. They flew over all sorts of landscapes and reached a desert one, Malibu looking back at one of the others that was tired, her team mate catching her. "Marskin farskin."
The other Breezie nods in tiredness. "Metar." Seabreeze came over, a look of encouragement on him. "You can do this! I am sorry for how I treated you before! It was not right that I called you names! I did not even really believe those things I said! I was worried we would never get back to our home, and I lashed out." The other Breezies still looked doubtful then Seabreeze gave them a helpful smile. "I know you can do this! I believe in you!" He took their hooves. "Hold onto me, and let us join the group!"
Malibu nods his head proudly at Seabreeze, glad he is now showing the others more kindness like how Fluttershy would. Soon, after some time of gliding; the group reached a cliff side alongside spotting a magical hole that was slowly closing. All the Breezies and the Mane 7 glided inside, Malibu and his friends gasping at what the Breezies home looked like.
It was like something out of a dollhouse, but much more magical. Like stepping into a whole other universe with only Breezies. Malibu grinned when seeing the little castle where the possible Breezie king and queen lived. "Boy, this place looks cool!" Malibu squeaked out in his pitched up voice.
Rainbow nods. "A holy-mini sized paradise!" She squeaked, Rarity looking obsessed. "This is simply beautiful. So much inspiration! Where is my sketchpad when I need it?"
Pinkie had her hooves squeezing her own cheeks. "So... stinking...cute!!" She squealed out loud. The rest of the Breezie clan had come out of their houses to greet their lost loved ones, Malibu watching Seabreeze reuniting with his wife, and held his baby as well, which to Malibu felt like it would be the cutest thing he would ever see, a tear falling down his face. Fluttershy was also doing the same thing but more than he was. "
"You ok, Fluttershy?" Applejack squeaked, watching Fltutershy sniffle. "I'm just so very happy that they got to be reunited with their family!" She squeaked.
Malibu nods in agreement but noticed the entrance slowly shutting. "Guys, we gotta get going before the exit for us closes." He pointed out, Fluttershy glancing over to Seabreeze. "Goodbye, Breezies. I must go now."
Seabreeze taps her shoulder and holds out a flower. "To remember us by." He said, tears in his eyes too, putting the flower in Fluttershy's mane. Fluttershy bows in front of them, wiping her eyes and followed her friends out of the hole. Later on once having come home after their adventure Fltutershy had written in the journal after being turned back into a pony:
"My experiences with the Breezies have helped me to see that kindness can take many forms, and sometimes being too kind can actually keep a friend from doing what they need to do. Pushing them away may seem cruel, but it's sometimes the kindest thing you can do."
Malibu breathed a sigh of relief once all of them were out of the Breezie hole, ready to be his normal alicorn self again. "Whoa, that was a close one!" Rainbow Dash squeaked.
Twilight beckoned them all around her. "Ok, gather around." She cast the spell again, Malibu feeling his old form come back, wiping his forehead, glad it was now all over, not wanting to be that small again.
Rainbow Dash gave Twilight a sly smile. "So... uh, I've always wondered what it would be like to be a griffin!" She suggested, Twilight smirking back. "Not a chance."
The rainbow Pegasus flew up above her. "You sure? How about a dragon? No? It doesn't have to be fire!" She pleaded, making Malibu chuckle, elbowing her. "I like you just the way you are, Dash." He said with a small wink, making her blush. "You too Mal." The two of them nuzzled then kept on flying back with their friends, Malibu knowing now it was close to his turn to experience something related to his Element. But what if it was Applejack who was next?
.....
Fluttershy has her key to the chest now! That leaves either Malibu or Applejack next after episodes 17, 18, and 19 which I'll post soon!
