7. A Return To Normal
It had been a week and a half since Taehyung had been bedridden, his body finally starting to recover from the fever that had knocked him down. The aching in his head had dulled, and his strength was returning, bit by bit. He could finally sit up without feeling like the room was spinning.
The thought of making a gift for Jungkook, of returning to the small ritual he had built over the past few weeks, had been lingering in his mind for days. The absence of his usual offerings had weighed heavily on him, and now, as his strength returned, so did his desire to make something special again.
Taehyung had always found comfort in the act of creating, whether it was candles, sculptures, or baking. And today, he had decided to bake something for Jungkook. cupcakes and muffins, sweet and simple. The kitchen smelled like sugar and vanilla, the oven warming the room as he carefully decorated each treat with precision.
As he worked, he felt a rush of warmth in his chest. His illness had kept him from doing something for Jungkook, but now that he was well again, he could finally give him something to show his appreciation for the mysterious connection that had begun to blossom between them.
When the final cupcake was placed carefully in the box, Taehyung smiled to himself. The gifts had been his way of expressing the feelings he couldn't voice, feelings that, for the most part, had remained hidden behind the layers of his shy and innocent nature.
Taehyung bundled up in his warmest jacket and grabbed the box of treats, carefully making his way outside his apartment and into the hallway. It felt good to be out of the apartment again, to be moving freely. His steps were light, and as he approached Jungkook's door, he felt a flutter in his chest. He placed the box gently on the doorstep, just like he always did, and stepped back to admire it for a moment.
He couldn't wait to see Jungkook's reaction, if he even noticed the return of the gifts. Taehyung had missed the small, heartwarming moments when he could sneak away after leaving something behind, not knowing whether Jungkook loved his gifts or threw them away.
As he walked back to his apartment, he couldn't help but feel a little lighter, the weight of his illness finally lifting. His heart was beating a little faster, and despite his usual timidity, he couldn't shake the feeling that something was beginning to change between him and his mysterious neighbor.

Jungkook's routine had been disrupted in a way he hadn't anticipated. After the disappearance of the gifts for the past week and a half, he had been caught in a strange limbo. He found himself walking to his door with less enthusiasm than usual, his mind heavy with the absence of the thoughtful gestures that had brightened his days.
But today was different. As he approached his door, he saw something on the ground. The familiar box was sitting there, just as it always had been. His heart skipped a beat, and a smile tugged at his lips.
He had missed this.
Jungkook bent down, carefully picking up the box. He didn't even need to look inside to know what was waiting for him. The scent of sweet, baked goods filled the air. Cupcakes and muffins. It was a small thing, but it was enough to lift the weight of the past week. The frustration and confusion that had built up in his chest dissipated, replaced by a warmth he hadn't realized he'd been craving.
With a soft chuckle, Jungkook carried the box inside, setting it on the kitchen counter. He opened it carefully, inspecting each cupcake and muffin with admiration. Whoever this was, this person who had been sending him these sweet surprises, had clearly put a lot of thought into it. The careful presentation, the attention to detail, it was something he couldn't ignore.
He took a bite of one of the cupcakes, the sweetness dancing on his tongue. A sigh escaped his lips, and he felt the tension in his shoulders ease. The gift had been exactly what he needed, exactly when he needed it.
Jungkook sat down at his dining table, the gift resting in front of him. His mind wandered to the person behind the gifts. He had never even seen them, never exchanged a word, but somehow, these small little gifts had become an integral part of his life.
But as the sweetness lingered in his mouth, he couldn't shake the feeling of longing. He had missed the gifts, yes, but more than that, he had missed the feeling of connection they brought. The curiosity gnawed at him. Who was behind all this? And why had they stopped?

The next day, Jungkook found himself pacing his apartment. The cupcakes and muffins had lifted his spirits, but the absence of the gifts for so long had left him unsettled.
His thoughts were consumed with the mystery. He had never been one for chasing mysteries, but this one was different. The gifts had become something more than just pleasant surprises. They had become a source of comfort, a bridge between two people who didn't know each other, yet seemed to understand each other in a way that was hard to explain.
Unable to shake the feeling of wanting to know more, Jungkook did something he hadn't planned. He walked over to his room and grabbed a piece of paper, a pen in hand. The thought of doing this, leaving a note, felt strange, but something inside him told him it was the right thing to do.
He quickly scribbled down a short message, trying to keep his words simple but sincere.
He folded the note carefully and placed it in an envelope, making sure it was secured. Then, with a quiet breath, he walked outside and set it on his own doorstep, just as the gifts had always been left for him.
As he walked to the parking lot, he couldn't help but feel a little nervous. He wanted to wait for the mysterious person to show up and see them but he's already late for the work. So he had to go. He wasn't sure what to expect, but the curiosity in his chest was too strong to ignore. He had to know more.

Inside Taehyung's apartment, life had returned to its quiet rhythm. He had made the gift, but now that it was gone, he couldn't help but feel a little anxious. Would Jungkook like it? Would he even notice? Taehyung had grown used to the idea that his small acts of kindness might go unnoticed, but this time, he hoped that wasn't the case.
The next day, when he returned to his doorstep after a quick trip to the store, he froze. He just wanted to take a glance at Jungkook's doorstep, as he always do, but what he saw made him froze into a living stature. There, sitting in front of Jungkook's door, was an envelope. It was addressed to the person who had been leaving the gifts.
Taehyung's heart skipped a beat as he carefully picked it up. The handwriting was unfamiliar, but the neatness of it struck him. A note. From Jungkook?
With trembling fingers, he opened the envelope, reading the words that lay inside. His eyes widened in surprise.
I'm glad to see the gifts back again. I missed them. Can you tell me why you've been absent for so long? I've been wondering.
A rush of warmth filled Taehyung's chest. Jungkook had noticed. Jungkook had missed the gifts.
For the first time in a long while, Taehyung smiled to himself, the weight of the past week lifting from his shoulders.
And suddenly, the silence between them didn't feel so heavy anymore.
