1. The First Gift
Kim Taehyung adjusted his glasses, staring out the window of his small apartment. Across the hallway, Jeon Jungkook's door stood closed, its polished surface an enigma. Taehyung had lived in the building for a few months now, long enough to recognize Jungkook's familiar presence in the corridors or at the mailbox. The older man rarely acknowledged anyone, his sharp eyes and quiet demeanor making him seem unapproachable.
But Taehyung had noticed the small details, how Jungkook always carried groceries in reusable bags, the faint lines of exhaustion etched into his face when he returned late at night, and the way he lingered by his balcony when it rained. He wasn't as cold as he seemed, Taehyung could feel it.
A small box sat on Taehyung's desk, wrapped in brown paper and tied with twine. Inside was a delicate handmade leather keychain in the shape of a tiny house. Taehyung had spent hours perfecting it, his hands trembling with both excitement and anxiety.
Would he like it?
Taehyung bit his lip, doubting himself. The gifts had started as a silly idea, a way to express his admiration for Jungkook without actually speaking to him. But now, with the first one ready, he wasn't sure if it was too much.
Glancing at the clock, Taehyung realized it was almost 11 PM. Perfect!!! Jungkook usually came home around this time. Grabbing the small box, he tiptoed into the hallway, his heart pounding. The corridor was silent, the dim lighting casting long shadows.
Carefully, he placed the gift at Jungkook's doorstep, ensuring it was perfectly centered. He hesitated for a moment, his nerves screaming at him to take it back. But before he could overthink, he spun around and hurried back to his own apartment, shutting the door softly behind him.
From the safety of his window, he waited. It wasn't long before he heard the faint sound of footsteps. Peeking out, he saw Jungkook. The man's sharp suit was slightly rumpled, his tie loosened as he carried his briefcase. He paused when he saw the box.
Taehyung held his breath as Jungkook crouched down, inspecting the package. After a moment, he picked it up and straightened, his dark brows furrowing in confusion. With a cautious glance around the hallway, Jungkook unlocked his door and disappeared inside.
Taehyung exhaled, his chest tightening with anticipation. Would Jungkook open it? Would he throw it away?
Across the hall, Jungkook sat at his kitchen table, the mysterious gift in front of him. He wasn't accustomed to surprises, his life was a meticulous routine. Slowly, he untied the twine and peeled back the paper, revealing the keychain.
It was small but intricately crafted, the tiny house a symbol of warmth. Jungkook's calloused fingers traced its edges, his frown softening. Who would leave something like this?
For the first time in months, Jungkook smiled...,just a little.
