Disturbing The Peace
Her chest tightened at the scene before her. Michael and Eli cuddled in the bed next to her. Her eyes were fixated on them since she had woken about 5 minutes ago. She watched as their breathing matched up and they both looked at peace being in each other's presence.
She giggled at Eli's little fist cupping his dad's matted down afro. This scene was too precious to miss. She begin to fumble for the camera she was given by Donna in the hospital that captured Eli's first few moments in the world. She knew she couldn't miss this one.
Father and son bonding, the way it was meant to be.
Her heart was crushed at the thought of her even thinking of keeping these two apart. She cowered even thinking of calling Michael a deadbeat. As much as he wasn't very present in her pregnancy due to the tension that they have caused to themselves, it was in this moment where she regretted thinking those horrible things about him.
Last night proved she was wrong as she didn't even have to get up and tend to baby Eli's needs. Every time he cried on the monitor Michael reassured her to continue her slumber as he happily got up with the baby. He fed and changed Eli like it was second nature and rocked him back to sleep, hence why the baby was cuddled close to his body this morning.
Although he had his own plans today to start filming for the new show his family was starring in, he did not complain and got up every time Elijah cried.
To show her gratitude, she got up and began to cook breakfast. She tried to make as less noise as possible to be sure that the baby and Michael continue to rest peacefully. As she danced around the kitchen making biscuits, bacon, eggs, and sausage, she could not remove the permanent smile. She could not get the thought of them finally becoming a family out of her mind. Michael helping her with Elijah, him allowing her to rest, and her getting up and making breakfast gave her the slight reassurance that everything will be ok.
They finally got each other, especially since it felt like her family completely abandoned her.
After finishing up breakfast, she begin dressing the plate. Almost as if magic occurred, Michael appeared in the kitchen.
"Something sure smells good in here" he placed his arms around her waist.
He placed his face in the crook of her neck, taking in her scent. She giggled at the gesture and sat still as she missed his intimacy so much.
"Well why don't you sit down and get yourself a plate before you leave" she suggested handing him a plate.
"Don't have to tell me twice" he chuckled.
She took a plate for herself and they sat at the mini dinning table she had in the living room corner. They sat in comfortable silence as they enjoyed the company of one another. It seems as if Michael had the same feelings she had when he woke up. They truly felt like a family. Not wanting to ruin the moment, they sat silently. The only thing heard was the silverware hitting the plate, that is until Elijah's cries broke the silence.
"I got it, just sit and eat" Tayler got up.
"No, no, no sit down and enjoy yourself. I got it"
He gripped her arm gently, leading her back down to her chair.
She blushed at his sweet gesture, she loved that Michael was always a gentleman. As she tried to fight off the permanent blush, Michael grabbed a ready made bottle for Elijah and started feeding him.
"You just couldn't let mommy and daddy enjoy their breakfast huh? You wanted your breakfast too" Michael planted a kiss on Elijah's forehead.
He resumed eating his breakfast and stealing glances at the baby, not being able to stop staring at him. He just couldn't believe this was his baby, this was his child, and he loved every minute of having Elijah in his arms. It brought him joy.
He thought being an entertainer defined him, but he was truly awakened and found his destiny when he first saw his son.
Now he's living for a greater purpose, and that was his son.
"You look so comfy being a dad" she commented.
"I know that sounded so stupid right" she quickly turned red.
Michael laughed and tore his gaze away from Eli
"No, I understand what you mean. I truly just feel like-like I'm at home when I hold him"
She gazed at them both as he looked down smiling at the baby.
"Wow, I wish I could be like that" she looked slightly disappointed.
"What do you mean?" He looked at her.
"Oh nothing, just forget I said anything" she tried to dismiss the conversation.
He grabbed her hand in his for a moment, trying to read her. This is something he could easily do and she knew it, she knew there was no denying anything in that moment. Therefore she decided to speak, besides Michael was the only place she felt safe right now. It's not like she had Lydia, her dad, or even Donna.
"I don't know, it's just hard being on my own. I know it's only been for two days and I really don't want to sound like I'm complaining but I just-I just feel as if I'm failing already. I mean he won't latch on to feed and I really wanted to bond with him. It's as if I'm not a real woman or a real mother because I can't breastfeed then I can't get him to lay in his crib without him crying and when he's fussing it's like I get scared cause I tried everything and nothing works"
She tried to fight the tears building up in her eyes. She simply closed her eyes to fight them off. Michael sat in silence as he waited for her to finish. He gently stroked her hand for comfort and support.
"I know it sounds silly" she continued.
"You don't sound silly" he assured.
"I just wish I can be like you, you know?" She smiled.
"Everything comes so naturally. Everything you touch is just good and I feel like everything I touch turns to just crap" she said being mindful to watch her words in front of baby Elijah.
"Hey, listen to me. You are wonderful at what you do. You are a wonderful singer, and apparently a wonderful songwriter as Jackie showed me the new song you wrote the other day. It sounds brilliant. Stop comparing yourself to me because you're going to fall short every time. You are not me, and vice versa. I can't do what you do. People love to be around you and not because you're Michael Jackson. People take to you easily. You're so smart and kind, and you are very loyal and strong. I mean you protected me through the whole ordeal when I just basically abandoned my promises that I made. You worked and went to school, even after being dropped from the label, you continued to go on and work for our son and provide for yourself. You are graduating soon and you did all that while taking care of yourself to bring him here. That sounds like a damn good mom to me-"
"Oops" he looked down at the baby giggling.
They both laughed.
"You are doing the best you can, there is no manual to being a parent. You just started, cut yourself some slack. You are doing just fine" he smiled.
"And just remember I'll always be there to pick you up. I'll always be there to help you, don't be so down on yourself" he finished.
She blushed at his kind words.
"What did I do to deserve you?" she gave his hand a tight squeeze.
"You gave me a son" he said simply.
They sat there for a moment, just looking at each other. They wanted to speak so badly but felt everything was being said through their eyes. This is exactly how it should be, just the three of them. No families involved, no business, no media, just them with no worries.
"I think you should be going" she said quietly.
"I think you're right"
He looked down at Eli, giving him a gentle cuddle. He didn't want to leave, he felt so at peace with his new found family but he knew he had obligations to fulfill, and he still had Elijah to support.
Michael handed Tayler the baby before dressing himself in his jacket. As she burped the baby, he planted a kiss on his cheek.
"I love you so much, I'll be back for you later little guy. And don't give mama a hard time please"
"Thats my job" he winked at her.
She giggled at his silliness. She truly didn't want him to leave either as she found solitude in Michael. She missed having him around. The time alone brought back many memories of their beginning stages as a couple and she missed those days.
She walked him to the door with Elijah still in her arms.
"Well I guess I better be going. If you don't mind, I'll be back over later after filming to check on the two of you but if you need anything don't hesitate to call the station. I wrote the number down on a pad in there"
She giggled at how worried he sounded.
"Just go, I'm fine. No worries"
"Ok" he agreed.
He smiled softly at her, not sure if he should initiate a kiss or hug. However, he decided against it and started walking to the car. But he stopped.
"Hey Tayler"
"Yeah" she looked concerned.
"Look, I don't know if you feel like I do but being with you last night and this morning it just-I don't know, it just felt right for once. Just having us as a family and I know these past few months haven't been that good between us but I just wanted to ask, when I come back tonight may we please talk about possibly establishing a future together. You know-being a real family" he bit his lip in anticipation.
She looked down blushing, she held the curious baby closer in her arms.
"I would like that very much"
He released a breath he didn't know he held in and sent a wink her way. She giggled at his failed attempt at trying to wink.
"Bye Michael"
"See you later gorgeous" he waved.
She beamed as she watched him walk away, she finally felt a sense of relief. She finally felt a sense of belonging and love that she often looked for since her mother abandoned her as a young child.
Once inside the house, she gathered the plates and placed them into the sink, deciding to wash them later. She knew Elijah wouldn't let her put him down to do minimal housework. She sat down on the couch with the baby.
"What should we do today huh? I guess mommy will give you a little sponge bath to get you all clean and nice. Then I guess we'll wait for daddy to get home"
Elijah cooed and leaned into her face, sucking her cheeks. She giggled at his movements.
"You're a silly baby, how do you give mama kisses but don't want any" she stared into his eyes.
"You look so much like your daddy, looks like mama need to get a shotgun cause those hussies will not be on my baby" she kissed his cheeks.
She stood up and started toward her room to gather up the mini tub and other supplies she needed to give Elijah a bath, but there was a knocking on the door.
She chuckled.
"Must be your daddy, he's always forgetting something. Let's see what he wants huh" she held Elijah upright.
She opened the door, "What did you-?"
She couldn't finish her sentence because who she thought was Michael at the door was actually two police officers.
"Tayler Holland?" one officer asked.
"Uh yes may I help you?" She rubbed Eli's back.
"May we come in?" The other asked.
She looked between them. She sensed the worse of the situation. They did not seem to be here for something like an emergency within the family. They gave her a hard disapproving look that worried her.
"What is this about?" She quirked a brow.
"Ma'am we need you to put the baby down" one requested.
"No, I'm not putting my baby down until you tell me what the problem is" she exclaimed.
"We're going to need back up, we have a suspect resisting arrest" he spoke into the two way radio.
"Resisting? What the hell are you talking about?" She held the baby tighter, trying her best to remain calm.
Before she could wrap her mind around the situation, an officer was attempting to take the baby out of her arms.
"HEY WHAT ARE YOU DOING? LET GO OF MY SON"
"MA'AM STOP RESISTING AND PUT THE BABY DOWN"
The two both had their hands on the baby, she clutched him tighter as the officer tried to pull him towards his body. The shrieking cries of her baby only angered her.
"LET GO OF MY FUCKING BABY! DONT TOUCH HIM! WHAT IS THIS ABOUT?" She pushed the officer.
The other officer jumped in and grabbed her arms as the other pried the baby out of her clutch. Elijah cried harder for his mother as the officer tried to console him.
"DONT TOUCH MY BABY, STOP TOUCHING HIM!" She cried.
She begin to fight off the officer trying to detain her. She threw a punch his way connecting to his cheek. She pushed him and kicked.
"KEEP RESISTING AND I'LL BE FORCED TO TASE YOU!"
He said those words but he had his hand on his gun. She moaned in tears as she felt defeated. Her poor baby was crying and there was nothing she could do, she couldn't get to him. She was afraid of being shot, she knew she had to cooperate in order to have her baby back. She didn't want to possibly be killed in front of him. She dropped to her knees.
"PLEASE DONT HURT ME, I JUST WANT MY BABY! JUST GIVE ME MY BABY" she pleaded.
The officer commanded her to place her hands behind her back, she complied while she cried more.
"Tayler Holland you are under arrest for filing a false police report and resisting arrest" the officer stated.
She gasped. The officer continued to read her her rights as she just looked at her baby in the arms of the menacing officer who tried to comfort him.
"A FALSE POLICE REPORT? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? I NEVER FILED A REPORT"
The officers ignored her and begin taking her outside. She dug her heels into the floor.
"No! Please let me call someone to come get my baby! Please let me call someone!" She asked.
"No need ma'am we got that covered, Mr. Holland will you please step forward" the officer called into the hallway.
Snapping her neck forward, her father appeared around the corner with his hands behind his back.
"Dad! Daddy! Please don't let them touch my baby! Please get him!" She cried.
Her father studied her tear stained face, it hurt his heart to see his baby girl, his only child in cuffs pleading for help. The scene broke everyone's heart as a few neighbors gathered by their doors to see what was going on. However, they disguised their nosiness with a smoke break.
"What's going on?"
Before the officers could speak, she quickly tried to explain everything. Hoping he could get her out of this jam.
"Daddy I don't know, they came here saying I resisted arrest and filed a false police report. They took my child out of my arms. Just please, please daddy get my baby away from them" she cried once more.
Her sobs could be heard down the road, she pleaded over and over again for her father to interject. She was still confused as to what was going on. Just this morning she found sanctuary in the arms of an Earth bound angel by the name of Michael, along with their son. They just found safety and comfort in one and another and here she is now with cuffs placed tightly on wrist, pleading for her baby.
"Daddy?" She called his attention.
She noticed how he wasn't saying much, she expected outrage from him or at least him to speak to the officers but it seems as if he was an observer, just sitting back watching the scene unfold like the nosey neighbors. She was confused.
"Do you see what could happen to you if you break the law? Do you see where lying gets you?" He asked.
She stood with her mouth gaped open, she couldn't believe her ears. Instead of helping her, he chastised her.
"Because of a dumb decision you made, this could have easily been you. Had we filed that report on your behalf, what if they found a random man who you accused of rape and had him arrested huh? In front of his children? Or his wife? Or his neighbors? What do you think would happen to this man? Do you even care?" He went on.
She stared at him in disbelief, no wonder he did nothing. He was in on this whole situation. She already felt disowned once the secret came out but now she completely felt like she had no family left. Her father, the first man she ever loved broke her heart. She always thought fathers were supposed to protect their children but here he is causing her misery all because of a mistake she made. She understood the severity of the situation as the painful secret ate her up everyday at just the thought of it.
But this-
This has completely went too far. This is the straw that broke the camel's back.
"I hope you learn your lesson. The next time you want to destroy someone's life put yourself in their shoes and think is it really worth it" he spoke.
"Uncuff her please" he requested.
The officers unlocked the cuffs from her reddened wrist. She immediately rushed over to her crying baby and soothed him.
Her father thanked the officers on their way out.
She sat motionless as she looked on. It disgusted her that her father orchestrated this whole ordeal. How could he cause her so much pain? How could he thank the very people that snatched her newborn son from her? How could he have any ounce of gratitude for a man who had his hand on his gun, ready to shoot his only child.
He turned to her and watched as she just looked at him and rocked her baby in her arms.
"I truly hope you-"
In this moment was tired of it all. Months of torment from this stupid secret. Michael's absence during her pregnancy, Joseph treating her son like a business deal, Lydia using Michael to get back at her, Donna not having her back, being dropped from the label, rumors about her pregnancy spreading, and her mother just leaving her to be raised by her father it all came pouring out her heart and she let her soul cry out in pain.
"GET OUT!" She dragged out, interrupting her father's speech.
"AND NEVER FUCKING COME BACK!" She ended.
She charged at him until he back peddled outside the door. She slammed the door in his face and sat on the couch to calm down a now screaming Elijah. She caressed and rocked him the best of her ability. She tried her best to suppress her cry.
It was now she realized that her needs must come after the baby's. She held her anger, sadness, and tears in to comfort her son. Once she settled him and put him back to sleep, she called the only person she felt truly loved her.
"Hello"
She sobbed into the phone.
"Tayler? What's wrong? Talk to me" Michael's angelic voice sang through the phone.
