Chapter Six

"So, are you going to run away again?", I ask the Zemrlt child, who still sits in my lap. "No....... I don't know where to go", he mumbles. "Well..... my name's Mu. And I'll make sure that you get home", I promise. "Really!? You'd that for me? I thought humans always kill us?", he says while looking up at me with newfound hope. "I'd never kill anyone. It's just wrong. And I'm not like other humans. That's why I'm wearing a mask", I say while bringing up my hand to grip the edge on my mask.

"Oh. You look like a human. I didn't know that there were special types of humans. My name's Ester, if you wanted to know", he says. "Nice to meet you, Ester. Are you ready for an adventure?", I ask. He smiles at me before scrambling to his feet. I stand up after him and take a quick look around. I've mesmerized lots of maps of this forest, but I won't get anywhere until I find the river. I'm assuming Ester's parents are across the river. The Zemrlt kingdom is actually across a thin strip of ocean. But there is a village hidden in GoldenEye, presumably near the water.

Ester walks along side me, subconsciously taking my hand to hold. I already very much love Ester like a little sibling. Even though I'm only six years older then him, all I want to do is keep him safe. "Ester Do you remember if you were on this side of the river? Or were you on the other side?", I ask him. "Ummm..... this side? I didn't cross any water yesterday, or the day before that, I think, so we're on this side", he says. "We'll have to look around for where your home is once we find the ocean," I explain, "Are your parents on this side with you? They'll really want to see you when we find them".

"Mommy and Daddy are on this side because my Sibs came to check on the other Zemrlt here. I wasn't suppose to come", Ester says white a small frown. "Don't worry, I'll take you back to your parents", I reassure him. Ester gives me a small smile, turning away to watch the forest. It's only now that I notice the number of shadows following us. During our conversation, three more spirits had appeared. They're just kinda there. You can't see them come or leave. The one who helped me out of my room is closest to me, the rest just kinda walking around us. Some don't even walk. They just seem to be always standing in front of me. I still don't believe that they're evil. More like..... watching to see what I'll do. I don't mind their company.

Ester suddenly stops walking. "What's wrong?", I ask in confusion. He's looking around, trying to find something. Then, he pulls on my arm and jerks me to the right. "This way! I remember now", Ester excitedly squeaks. I'm pulled around a couple of trees before we enter a small cave opening. I didn't even see it from the path! Lichen and other mosses make it blend in too well. "W-Wait, where does th-", I start to ask, but I'm cut off when my feet suddenly leave the ground. I yelp and fall onto my stomach with Ester somewhere in front of me. Then I start sliding. The rock floor is slanted and sends me skittering downhill. What's happening!? Ester laughs from up ahead, but I can see him with how dark the tunnel is now. It's like giant slide! How many centuries of water erosion could have made this!?

The slide twists and turns, throwing myself with it. I only catch a glimpse of light right before I'm spit out of the ride. I gasp when I land in a pool of freezing water, accidentally swallowing some of the water. The freezing cold is a shock on my system and I'm still reeling from the rock slide. It's hard to swim up at first, and I start to panic. A hand suddenly reaches down and grabs my arm. Ester pulls me up out of the deep pool as I start coughing up water. I even have to pull my mask a few inches off my face to breath. "W-What was th-that?", I croak out.

"It's called the water tunnel. It's how we keep humans away from our houses", Ester giggles. My clothes are sopping wet with cold water, and I can't help but start shivering. "How c-come you a-aren't co-cold?", I ask him with my teeth chattering. Ester is just as soaked as I am. "Cold?.... Oh wait! Humans get cold easily, don't you? I'm sorry that I forgot. I don't get cold very much", he says apologetically. I nod my head, trying to shake off some of the cold. "I bet that we have some dry clothes that you can use in town, follow me!".
