Chapter Seven

Ester excitedly tries to pull me back up on my feet, not doing very well since I'm so much bigger than him. I reluctantly stand back up with my arms wrapped around my torso. Gosh, it's freezing. It must be nice to never be cold. I hope that Ester's family is here. I don't really want anything to do with more water at the moment.

Eater walks in front of and deeper into the cave. The floor is surprisingly smooth. It was dark in the slide, but now everything is dimly lit. It takes me a minute to figure out that there are tiny cracks in the high up sealing. Could they really be letting in light from the sun? We have to be at least 50 feet underground, probably more. The cave wall is rough along the sides with a clear path on the ground. How long would it have taken to make this? No wonder GoldenEye soldiers can't find this place.

Ester can't stop smiling. His joyful mood makes my wet clothes feel worth it. It's just a good thing that my mask stayed on. I'm not suppose to take it off. A flash of movement catches my eye, and I see a shadow standing to my right. I recognize them as the one who helped me out of my window. I'm glad that they haven't left. More shadows appear as I keep walking with Ester. He doesn't seem to notice them. The shear number of them start to make me nervous. Many of them have their dark heads cocked to the side in confusion. A general feeling of dread fills the tunnel. I don't think Ester can see or notice their presence. Was it just a one time fluke for him with his sibs?

Before I can ask him, the tunnel suddenly widens put into a large cavern. My eyes widen at the sight. A massive, thundering waterfall makes up the wall opposite of the tunnel. Buildings look like they were carved from the sides of the cavern. There are at least ten rope bridges criss-crossing back and forth between the higher buildings. Crop beds are planted on the ground levels, and ruts are carved out of the stone to divert water from the waterfall. This is where the Zemrlt have been hiding on GoldenEye? It's beautiful.

Ester takes my hand and leads me excitedly into the town. I start to pick out the other Zemrlt amount the stone buildings. All I can hear in here is the waterfall. The few people I see have the usual pale skin and gray eyes. I also see a man with his shirt off, revealing the brown bone along his toro and spine. The natural armor looks like rib bones. They're all dressed like Ester; in dark colors and tight clothing. Ester keeps pulling me to a certain house on one side of the cavern.

I can't hear them, but our footsteps must have alerted the Zemrlt to our presence. I meet someone's eyes from one of the bridges, and I smile even though they can't see it with my mask. She jumps in alarm and hurries over to a man on the other side of the bridge. She furiously signs to him and points at me. I can't see anymore before Ester draws my attentions back to him.

"Mom and Dad might not talk to you, but I can tell you what they say! I still don't know all my sign language even though I'm not really suppose to be speaking this much", Ester chatters, keeping hold of my hand. I'm surprised when the building has no door. Instead, Ester picks up a rock and throws it at the side of the door. I can even hear the thud this time. Ester excitedly shifts from foot to foot and waits for someone to come out.

I yelp when someone suddenly grabs my shoulder and yanks me back. They grab onto my arms and kick my feet out from underneath me. I gasp in pain and shock when my knees slam into the stone floor. I hear Ester squeak, and I look up to see an older women had pulled him back away from me. Ester looks up, and they're suddenly both crying. "Mommy!", Ester cries, turning in her arm and hugging his mother. This is when I notice that she has one white eye just like Ester. She hugs her son close and tries to wipe the tears from his face.

I look around to see that a small crowd has gathered around us. They talk to each other in their sign language. It's a little strange to me how none of them talk, but not uncomfortable. I'm more scared by the man standing above me. Ester scoots back in his mother's arms, trying to sign something to her. He seems to get a little frustrated before just speaking out loud. "This is Mu! He brought me back here", Ester explains, looking up at the man holding me down. I'm still a little too scared to say anything for myself. Another man comes up beside Ester and his mom, briefly crouching down to take his son's hand. Then he stands back up to face me.

"Y-You brought my s-son here?", he ask me. His voice is externally rough and scratchy, and it almost looks like it hurts for him to talk. "Yes", I hesitantly answer. I can't help but shiver again from my wet clothes. It really is freezing in here. He's about to speak again, when someone talks from behind him. "Sir? The f-fleet is in the cove. The King is h-here to avenge his niece and nephew", another Zemrlt speaks up. They're also soaked from going through the water fall. Ester's dad nods, looking back to me with a conflicted gaze. "Keep h-him here until a-after the battle", he finally says. "Wait! Mu isn't trying-", Ester starts to argue, but his dad shushes him. I'm about to say something, but my vision suddenly blacks out.
