For the Muffin Man TheMuffinMan69. (BTW it will contain swearing at the end)
Percy POV
After getting over the initial shock of Artemis' ... um...transformation, I looked round to notice reality begin to ripple around us as if we we were dropping into a lake beginning to see the world below the water. I gazed over the side of the chariot over the horizon it seemed as though the sky itself was moving as if it was alive. The stars appeared to be moving in groups, separate bodies even, all moving across a plain of darkness. Talking about plains, the chariot had landed on... whatever this was and was actually creating a dust cloud behind us, how? I have no idea. But the weirdest part, not all the stars moved some were fixed in place above us creating a ceiling to this odd place we were in. I'm sure my mouth was agape from the all that my mind was processing. I was only broken out of my shock by the chuckle of goddess leaning on me.
"You like it?" The goddess on my shoulder asked looking up at me with a smug smirk on her face.
Trying to form any sort of mildly intelligent response I managed to stammer out, "Yeah, th-this place...it...it's amazing. Where are we exactly?"
"As I said, Perseus, this is the realm of constellation. On the witching hour of the first of every month this place comes to life. Every constellation ever made comes to life for the hour before returning to their places in the sky for another month. Here it is my domain, though there are few in the world who even know of its existence, you will be the third person alive today who knows of it, myself and Atlanta being the others." Artemis explained looking over the horizon. Now that she had explained it, it did appear as if these bodies of stars were in fact beings mingling with each other. Thinking about this was all a bit much so I managed to stumble back to my seat trying to comprehend it all, much to the lunar goddess's amusement who came over and sat by my side. "All a bit much Perseus?"
"You could say that." I replied with a sigh. As I comprehended what was going on around me a thought passed my mind which I so hoped was true. "So does that mean that Zöe... Is she... here?"
"Indeed I am, young Perseus." Sounded from a voice I hadn't heard for years, from behind me. Spinning round so fast I could have got whiplash, I turned to see the person it belonged to. Before me was the form of what appeared to be Zöe Nightshade except instead of being in her previous form of a fourteen year old huntress she was instead a towering figure looming over the moon chariot making the godly vehicle seem no more than a toy car. Her body appeared to be translucent as I was able to see through the ex-huntress to the pitch black night behind her, however each of her joints shone with the intensity of ...well a star. The huntress was smirking down at me, probably amused at my surely bemused expression. Besides her was an equally epic bear which seemed to be grinning as well, which was slightly disturbing to see. I was broken out of my thoughts by the goddess next to me.
"Stop messing with Perseus you two and come say hello properly." Artemis called up at the constellations above us.
"But it's funny, Mi'lady." Was the mature response given by the daughter of Atlas as she along with the other constellation began to shine out of the stars in their bodies getting brighter and brighter, before it became to bright for my eyes ,which had become adjusted to the dark, and I was forced to avert my eyes.
When the light seemed to have dulled enough I returned my gaze to where the constellations had previously been only to find a couple of huntresses casually leaning on the railings of the sleigh which was the moon. The one on the right I didn't recognise with a seemingly ageless face, long brown hair and bared a resemblance to a figure from an Ancient Greek painting. While she did not wear the more modern clothes of the girl next to her you could tell she was a huntress from the silver bow on her back as well as the crescent on a circuit resting on her head. Scouring through my knowledge of this world I deduced she must be Callisto, the first lieutenant of the hunt, or more commonly know Ursa Major. The girl next to her I managed to recognise instantly, long black hair, ancient onyx eyes and a similar silver circuit left only one option. The one and only Zöe nightshade.
"It's good to see again, Miss Nightshade." I said to the onyx eyed huntress stepping forwards to greet her, "It's been a long dam time."
This got a chuckle from the goddess of the moon being told about the dam joke from Thalia with the other two still left looking confused. However they were soon all laughing at me as I tried to hug Zöe but fell through her and almost off the sleigh if it wasn't for the railing. Quickly trying to move on from my embracing greeting I turned to the unfamiliar girl while was currently laughing with the daughter of Atlas. "Well that was embarrassing... Anyway if I'm not mistaken you must be Callisto, the first lieutenant of the Hunters of Artemis?"
The girl in question suddenly stopped laughing and began it eye me up as if I was a rotting piece of meat. Her glare reminded me of the one Zoe would give me when we first met each other, the one which made you seem as if you were merely a nuisance to their existence. Unfortunately for her I wasn't fourteen anymore and had seen scarier shit than a glaring huntress so just raised an eyebrow in response. Apparently impressed by my nerve the former huntress nodded while smiling slightly. "Indeed I am, son of Poseidon. You must be the male that these two have told me so much about, Perseus wasn't it?"
I groaned in response, "You lot do know that you can call me Percy right? Literally everyone who is not trying to kill me does so."
"Yeah but where's the fun in that?" Artemis responded teasingly, causing me to sigh knowing I wasn't going to get anywhere with this particular argument. So instead I asked the question I had been wondering about since we entered this weird realm.
"How are you to here? I mean it is great that you are, but how? I saw you die Zo and from what I've heard you've been dead for millennia Callisto. No offence or anything." I asked curious about how this was all happening, while trying not to offend the three greatest feminists in history.
"None taken." The huntresses assured me, while their leader leaned on the railing smiling softly at her two best friends, I assume.
"Well Perseus, when a constellation is put into the sky part of that beings soul is put in as well, like you saw me do with Zöe. Anyway, when that happens they gain the form of a spirit in this realm as you can see around you. It is like having being a ghost once a month for an hour. The constellations also create random objects for some unknown reasons." The Lunar goddess said, absentmindedly gesturing to a ginormous microscope over to the right which seemed to have an equally huge dragon coiled around it, but meh I've seen weirder things. "Every constellation ever created gets a spirit form here, unless I personally remove them or they fade..." I was immediately disappointed by this news for it meant that Pan would not be. Sensing my sudden drop of spirit the goddess stopped her lecture to look at me with a slightly confused expression along with the other huntresses. "What's wrong Perseus?"
I sighed while moving to lean on the railing, staring out over the horizon to the fixed position signifying the faded nature of the fallen god of the wild. "It's nothing Artemis, just remembering a forgotten friend."
"Thy does know that I am right behind thee." I heard from a slightly annoyed spirit behind me.
"Not you Zoe, I don't think anyone could forget you." I said as I turned to look at the three huntresses before me. I noticed how the two spirits had gone to leaning, floating?, against the opposite railing while their leader had taken to leaning on the railing besides me. "No I was just thinking about Pan," I explained while nodding to the frozen constellation, "The old goat."
Apparently this was quite surprising judging by the reaction it got from the silver maidens. Zoe did a double take, causing Callisto to momentarily loose concentration and fall through the sleigh, Artemis on the other hand had a much more reserved reaction taking to merely gaping like a goldfish. All of which were unusual reactions for the deceased and alive leaders of the hunt, causing me to raise an eyebrow. Being the first to regain her senses the goddess all but yelled, "You met Pan!? How? He's been faded for centuries!"
"No... He's been in hiding within the labyrinth for centuries, due to mortals 'developments'. I met him in there when we were mapping it out for the first war." I explained involuntarily at the memory of that gods forsaken maze. "I met him along with my half brother Tyson, a son of Hades named Nico, the current Oracle of Artemis's brother Rachel, the G-man- You remember Grover, the satyr?" The two huntresses who met him nodded along while Ursa Major just waved her hand showing her distinct lack of interest for the male. "Yeah him and An- Miss Chase." Saying the last bit through gritted teeth.
Zoe either didn't pick up on my distain for the previously mentioned or simply didn't care, probably the latter, as she asked with an arched eyebrow, "The daughter of Athena you where infatuated with?"
Grinding my teeth I all but spat out, "Yes, her. Anyway moving swiftly on-" I began eager to move on, but was unfortunately interrupted by the other huntress. Obviously trying to find out if I had done anything to the maiden.
"Why aren't you now?" The great bear said, fiddling with her spiritual bow trying to unnerve me. Unfortunately for her, two wars and a trip to literal hell tends to give someone a lack fear for sharp high speed objects.
"Let's put it simply by saying we had a few minor disagreements leading to a neutral break up." I said in my special sarcastic voice and ridiculously fake smile which I usually leave for gods. My mind drifted back to that fateful day, there was a lot of storms that night. Thankfully the goddess came to my rescue bringing a decisive end to this train of conversation.
"Now girls lets get back to the story at hand, do not worry girls Perseus wasn't in the wrong." Artemis said in a commanding voice the demanded respect, this caused a chorus of 'Yes Mi'lady's from both of her former lieutenants. I nodded in thanks gaining a sad smile in return from Artemis. She had been present at camp when the break up had happened and it was not pretty, containing a lot of four letter words.
"Yeah well we met Pan on that trip and saw him in his fading moments. He was in some cave filled with dodo's, woolly mammoths and I believe a sabretooth tiger? Anyway he was waiting for Grover before he faded along with his extinct animals, in doing so he gave us his blessing I think, never really tried to use it though." I murmured the last bit as I finished the explanation. I gazed over the reactions of the huntresses to see them all with forlorn expressions on their faces remembering the fallen god.
"Do you mind trying for us Percy? I want to see it, if only one last time." The goddess asked in a small voice, obviously having some form of relationship with her nephew previously. Nodded in return thinking about how Grover usually does this. I realised he usually uses music to focus his power so I began to hum the rhythm of a song my father had taught me once, the song of the sea he had called it. Closing my eyes and stretching out my hand I focused on the rhythm of the song and imagined it taking the form of life. Suddenly I felt a tug in my gut and a newly weight growing in my palm, it was small but it was there. Wanting to keep the momentum going I increased the intensity of the song, putting more stain on my gut but also increasing the rate of growth of the mass in my hand. This pattern increased until I was sweating buckets and nearing the end of the song. Hearing a gasp besides me I lost the my concentration, conveniently finishing the the song, and fell back against the railing due to the strain.
I opened my eyes to see one of the oddest sights I'll ever see. Surrounding me was a small circle of fresh grass, standing in which where the three huntresses all somehow covered with leaves staring at my outstretched hand, on which was the most beautiful flower I've ever seen and I've met Persephone. Standing tall and proud was a single flower with seemingly countless silver and green pelts organized in hypnotic swirls it seemed to glow with a similar light to the moon, ethereal you could call it. Truly the work of pan.
"It's beautiful..." The lunar goddess gasped out finally after we had all stared at the flower for at least 5 minutes. That snapped me out of my stubborn as I smiled reaching with my other hand to pick it off my hand, before I reached over to the silver goddess next to me. Brushing her fiery hair out off the way first I tucked the new flower behind her ear, brushing her cheek as I retracted her my hand smiling softly at her golden blush.
"For the beautiful goddess of the moon." Saying this got me a pair of raised eyebrows from the huntresses and a peck on the cheek from the maiden goddess, who appeared to have even deeper blush than before.
"Thank you, Percy." She mange to shyly state as we turned to face each other looking into one another's eyes. Like all possibly romantic moments it was interrupted by a pair of assholes. And no it wasn't Zoe and Callisto. No, it was the two biggest dicks in Greek mythology Orion and Heracles who where both leaning over the side of the chariot.
"Oh it looks like the I virgin goddess is finally getting some." Sneered Orion gaining a laugh for his half wit friend Heracles.
"Guess the bitch finally is open for business." The son of Zeus cheered with a lustful glint in his eyes. Before I could even open my mouth to retort both had celestial silver arrows in their gentlemen areas for the huntresses. Both of which had a murderous glint in their eyes.
"Don't worry son of the sea we will deal with them." Was heard briefly before Ursa Major leapt into action in the form of a ginormous bear easily crushing both of them. I turned to see Zoe with a sadistic look in her eye as she came and did the most surprising thing. She hugged me.
"Look after Mi'lady boy," Was all I got before she to went back to her giant size and started slashing wildly at the two with her shining hunting knives. Before I could say goodbye to her or comprehend the meaning behind what she said I felt a tug on my hand which somehow was intertwined with Artemis's. She pulled me back to the bench with a surprisingly large smile on her face for what was said.
"Come Percy we must continue our ride." The goddess said gleefully, pushing me down onto the bench before joining me in her previous position as we ploughed on through the night. the sky rippled again as we returned to the mortal realm.
All I could think about was how I didn't want this night to end.
