Show on the Road
Chapter 5: Show on the Road
I don't want to write this chapter mainly because the rest of the shopping bores the shit outta me. Hence why I haven't written it for over 6 months. I don't wanna write the wand getting and pet getting and stuff because it's boring af hence why it will be skipped. I'm sorry these first few chapters haven't been that good but I wanted to write this story because I wanted to write a Hogwarts / boarding school Pertemis story. Problem is that I had to make 5 chapters of establishment. I know it's also kinda rushed to go from them arriving the day before to them being on the train in the same chapter but all the stuff I wanted done in Grimmauld Place was established in the dinner scene - they hate the Potters, like Sirius and Remus and are way cooler than their brother.
Oh yeah, last thing. Should I change the characters' names? I like Hadrian and Cali but not really enthusiastic about Nero and Caligula. Originally I was just like okay well Hadrians a Roman Emperor so what's some other emperors? Ah yes, Caligula the girl and Nero the skinny glasses wearing teenager. To be fair it kinda does make a bit of sense cause purebloods love Roman names but c'mon, Nero and Caligula? 2021 me was straight retarded. I could probably even find better Emperor names. Idk. She'd still be Cali but I want a better birth name.
Idk about their younger brother. Antoninus (Anton)? Constantine? Valentinian (Val)? Alexander? Idk yall suggest new names cause I ain't vibing with Caligula n Nero and i'm wholeheartedly willing to go back and change em. Hadrian can stay, the fandom likes that one for Harry.
Percy: 13" driftwood, thestral hair, rigid
Cali: 12.5" cedar wood, dragon heartstring, unbending
Artemis: 10.75" dogwood, werewolf hair, rigid
Apollo: 12.25" laurel wood, phoenix feather, swishy
Chapter 5: Show on the Road
The four teens carried their bags with them as they went. Artemis and Apollo had backpacks since they came as deep as they willed it. Percy and Cali on the other hand had full luggage bags since being demigods they didn't have the luxury of mind spaces.
They came as a caravan. James and Sirius were at the front of the pack leading the four Americans as well as Nero, Hermione and the Weasleys. Lily and Remus brought up the rearguard with Arthur while Molly sorta just scrambled around the teenagers sorting her kids out at the last minute.
Since she didn't have her hands full carrying a bag Artemis felt free to link her hand with her boyfriend's, leaning into him as a sort of coping mechanism. She hadn't taken this whole thing well. 4000 years of getting her way undermined by the thing she loved most being threatened, her boyfriend. In the past if there was a problem she'd either kill it or it would be too late and she'd grieve. Rarely had a problem threatening the life of someone she loved been active. Zoe's death hadn't been on her mind until it was too late to do anything. Any of her hunter's deaths would not have been an issue because Artemis would not have dwelled on it until it happened. Here, it was as though an invisible god was holding a knife to Percy's throat and she was forced to pretend nothing was wrong lest his throat be cut.
Percy was impressed and proud of her. He was surprised she hadn't nuked the entirety of London already.
Apollo still felt pretty nauseous after Hecate made him magic. It felt unnatural, like this was not supposed to be. Well, it kinda wasn't. But either way he got to kick around with his little sis and cousins for a school year and maybe get lucky a bunch what with these students all being confined to a single building.
Cali had sighed a lot today. Tired and not in the mood she scowled at all the depressing British commuters as they walked. Percy had a feeling she would end up being a bit of a Debbie downer at school. She knew how to sulk and their circumstance had him wholly believing she would spend a lot of the year doing so.
Suddenly they stopped and the group of four were left confused. Apollo almost kept the cart with their birds rolling until his sister reached out and grabbed the handle to stop it. The caravan had stopped with the cart at the front - Ron and Ginny's - facing a pillar which Molly stood next to. After checking her watch, she nodded at her youngest children. "Go on then, you two. Don't wander off yet." She told them.
Ron nodded, and after taking a deep breath began to stroll forward. To the Greeks' surprise, instead of colliding with the wall and collapsing like a paraplegic on an escalator, the cart and eventually the two gingers looked as though they melted against the wall or were sucked into a black hole. Taken aback slightly, but ultimately having seen worse, the four looked at each other and then Sirius and Remus for an explanation.
"Just walk through, it doesn't hurt. Well, unless you miss." Remus joked, not explaining the science behind it or why this was a thing. Who needed context in fairy fucking England?
Sirius then demonstrated by phasing through the wall much like Ron and Ginny had done. James then turned to them and grinned. "Right then, come on now Harry." The man encouraged his biological son.
Glaring, Percy pushed his cart forward. "I'm gonna pretend I didn't hear that." He said moodily. Not trusting the gingers' run-up, Percy decided to mimic Sirius' casual walk-through. He brought the cart close to the wall, Artemis lingering behind, and deciding to test it out a bit he merely pressed the cart against the wall.
To his semi-surprise the cart went straight through, and carrying with the momentum Percy crawled his way through on two legs. Artemis grabbed onto his shirt and ended up falling through with him, though to her surprise she managed to land on her feet.
In front of them was revealed a large, bright red train station. Not subways like in America or even electric trains. This was a genuine 1600s-ass steam train station. The screech of the engine made Percy wince terribly, but he was pulled out of the way by Sirius.
The others came through one by one, each taking nowhere near as much awe by the sight as Percy had. "Reminds me of old London." Artemis remarked, referencing her experiences in the city over a century-and-a-half previously.
"Was there magic?" Percy asked, letting her lean into him as they walked over near the steps of the train, ready to board and get this year over with.
Artemis shrugged. "There was, but I personally knew everyone using it." She sighed, the whole situation still not sitting right with her.
Percy smirked. "Brighten up, moonbeam. I may be enslaved, but at least we can be a cute boarding school couple now." He said cheerfully, trying not to disturb the magnificent birds of prey they unfortunately had to stuff into cages on the cart. Whenever they got to this place, Percy was gonna let his hawk go wild around the place.
Artemis herself had a falcon, more agile and determined compared to his larger, stronger and more warrior-like raptor. Cali had decided on an eagle and Apollo a condor, because of course those two did. There were a lot of parallels between the Jackson and Phoebeian twins. The cocky and very extroverted member was definitely one of them. "You sound like Aphrodite." She joked.
Percy gave her a more sly smirk this time. "Can't help that I'm excited to see you change into your schoolgirl outfit." He said in a lower voice, not wanting to announce such a statement to wizarding London.
Artemis blushed and looked the other direction. Why did he have to do stuff like that in public? "Now you sound like Aphrodite." She said quietly.
Percy and Cali saved all their goodbyes for Remus and Sirius, leaving absolutely none for their biological parents. At what point did it just become mean, Percy didn't care. They didn't want more than one kid, they didn't get to have the other two, life sucks that way.
The four managed to lift their luggage onto the scarlet locomotive, instantly cringing at how cramped the vessel was. Kids in cargo shorts and button-up shirts bustled through the hallway, ducking into compartments and trying to transport their luggage through the crowd.
Cali looked to her left, seeing one of the doors shut with both curtains drawn closed. She grabbed the handle, and seeing it wasn't locked, she slid the door open. "Fuck!" She exclaimed, seeing four younger kids sitting in the booth staring at her quizzically. The demigod slammed the door shut, tightening her hold on her luggage and picking up the enormous bird cage she had to balance.
Spearheading their movements, Cali advanced down the hall dragging her luggage and opening compartment doors to get a look. "At this rate the whole school will know us before we even get there." Apollo rolled his eyes.
There was no need for doubt, however, as Cali eventually opened a door and revealed and empty booth. Just happy to not have to walk through all these British kids anymore, the group of four piled in. They found the overhead compartments were a lot bigger than ghey should hav been, somehow able to fit two suitcases and two birds of prey inside with room to breathe.
They took their seats, Percy and Artemis on one side with Cali and Apollo on the other. The Jacksons had the window seats, since Cali had led them into it and Percy went before Artemis. Shutting the compartment door, Apollo then pulled back the curtain a bit to peek at the people shuffling about outside. "Stop creeping." Artemis ordered as she leaned right into Percy's side, getting comfortable on her boyfriend for a long ride.
Apollo rolled his eyes and let go of the curtain. "Yes, mother."
Eventually the train whistled deafeningly and began to move. The sound of a locomotive chugging was oddly nostalgic to the Jackson twins. It was a naturally calming sound, signaling that all is in order and good now.
A tired goddess snuggled into her boyfriend's side as the train moved along, and an eternally grateful demigod leaned his head down and kissed her on the forehead. "Thank you." He whispered, giving her a genuine smile, one she happily reciprocated from an upside-down perspective.
"I couldn't exactly let you go off alone, could I? You might get lost in a school full of girls your age." She whispered back, letting him pepper another two kisses on her. The auburn-haired goddess was dressed in a long sleeve black turtleneck and skinny jeans while her Romeo stuck with his usual shirt and jeans.
"If he got lost I'd gouge his eyes out, don't worry." Cali piped in, revealing that their private conversation was not so private after all. Turns out they weren't whispering quietly enough.
The door slid open making them all snap their heads in the direction. A wide door frame was entirely taken up by a blob with a flat head who had a look of outrage on his face. The same look as a mobility scooterer being told the milkshake machine was broken at McDonald's.
"Oi, the bloody hell are you doin'? Draco, someones taken our seats!" The potential terrorism threat turned his head to call down the walkway. Cali and Artemis sat up from their positions leaning on both a window and a Percy.
Three more people came around into view, all holding the same sneers as the large fellow. In the back was yet another ugly dude, taller than the rest and with the face of a troll. On the left was a short black-haired girl wearing a plaid skirt with a look of disgust on her face. The guy she was standing next to, the one in the middle, was fairly tall - still shorter than the two oafs around him - with platinum blonde hair and high cheekbones. He definitely looked like the most stereotypical prep school kid they'd ever seen.
He looked ready to yell at them, instead choosing to sneer as the seat he had been guaranteed four years running was randomly occupied. "Who are you, then? Must be more mudbloods. Never seen your lot in this excuse of a school." He remarked, still disgusted by their likely disgusting racial quality. Muggle, that is.
"At least we agree on something." Cali rolled her eyes as she once again leaned her head back against the window, watching with annoyance as Apollo raised an eyebrow flirtatiously at the short black-haired girl.
The blonde's head turned to her, then looked back to Artemis, finally registering the total babes sitting in the compartment. "Well, I suppose we'd be willing to share. I'm Draco, Draco Malfoy." He introduced, leaning on the doorframe with a smirk like that name was supposed to mean something.
Artemis scowled. "There is no room. Certainly not for the pigs behind you." She rudely replied, not intending on socializing with any of the mortal snobs at this school.
"There are other compartments for them. So, what do I call you?" He asked, primarily talking to Cali and Artemis, likely under the delusion he'd be leaving with his arms around both girls.
Unfortunately for his fantasy, the blonde guy answered for him. "I'm Apollo, that's my sister Artemis, that's Percy and this is Cali." He answered, clearly on the best terms with him out of the group.
The black-haired girl tugged on his sleeve. "Drakeyy." She said pathetically, seeming so much smaller than him. Drakey ignorantly brushed her off, still intent on knowing more about the hot strangers.
"You're yanks, then? How come you're at our school, rather than that shithole Ilvermorny?" He asked, not taking the hint that none of them aside from Apollo cared to talk to him. The rest were too tired for that.
"Elf-what?" Percy asked, not really wanting an answer. Artemis was too uncaring by this point to even pay attention.
"The American school of magic. Ilvermorny." The black-haired girl answered snobbily, making Percy, Cali and Artemis all glare at her, wanting her to shut up.
"None of your business Dorko. You and your lackeys ready to leave us alone now 'cause we clearly don't wanna talk?" Cali snapped at Draco, obviously not in the mood.
Draco's face turned red and a look of shock and awe came upon his face. "How- Who do you think you are mudblood? You dare talk to a Malfoy with that mouth?" Draco said, pulling out his wand and walking towards Cali. But before he could say or do anything, as if time itself slowed down Percy felt a weight lift off of him and in a split second the blonde kid was decked in the face by Artemis.
Draco dropped his wand and fell to the side as the impact on his right cheek felt like it had turned some of his teeth 90 degrees inward. " DRAKEY!?" The black haired girl shrieked as she came towards Draco to help him up. Like the goddess she was, Artemis looked down regally and pitifully on the two mortals, one spitting out blood onto the floor.
"Begone, boy, before I shove that stick up where the Sun doesn't shine". Artemis threatened in an almost echoey voice while Percy and Cali watched the scene with identical surprised smirks on their faces. Apollo merely rolled his eyes at his younger sister's antics.
After seeing the quiet girl punch Draco in the face, the two bulky kids in the back seemingly lost their confidence. Not often their victims fought back. "Come on, you dolts. Help me pull him up." The short black haired girl yelled at the two Lego heads. They slowly came forward and pulled Draco up to his feet, all the while glancing at Artemis slightly fearfully. Artemis stayed standing to watch as the chubby boys immediately started to drag Draco out of the compartment.
"Wait till my father hears about these mudbloods". Draco said audibly to his friends, standing up and violently shaking off his cronies in pride.
"WaiT TiLL mY fAthEr hEArs aBouT THis." Percy said mockingly, loud enough for the retreating rich kids to hear. The other three laughed, especially Cali who now really hated that kid.
All in all the trip from the station to the school would take 7 hours. During that time Artemis spent a lot of it sleeping while cuddled up to Percy. The two had turned on the seats so they were parallel to the wall rather than looking at Apollo and Cali. The latter was in the same position but was sitting up with her arm resting on her one raised knee. Artemis' twin merely sat as normal, though with his head leaning against the wall.
They spent the vast majority of the time in discussion. They had wanted to buy candy initially, being hungry from a pretty mediocre breakfast, but they didn't even have British money, let alone shekels or cattle or whatever wizards traded.
Suddenly a voice came over the room, despite there being no PA system, cameras or any real technology. Scaring the four birds at the top, the elderly female voice screeched. All students, we shall be arriving at Hogwarts in less than an hour. It would be wise to begin changing into your uniforms and removing any items that do not hold up to the school dress code.
The four of them had almost forgotten that they had to wear uniforms at this concentration camp.
Percy and Apollo were the first to get changed while the girls went for a walk down the hallway and back. During that time while facing opposite directions they talked about what school was gonna be like. "Please, Apollo, try not to get a restraining order. I don't even know if they do those here. At least don't get expelled."
Apollo smirked while buttoning up his white shirt. "What, you'd miss me if I got kicked out?" It was cool, he felt like he was in American Psycho or something. The guy behind him merely wished he was an American Psycho protagonist so he could solve the problem the way he wanted, a good old Hey Paul.
Percy laughed. "No. I'm just worried about what would happen if they have gender segregation and my only male friend there got expelled for sexual assault." He joked, fixing his tie. He'd only ever worn a tie once, which was his mom and Paul's wedding. Now he had to wear one every fucking day.
Apollo and Percy finished dressing and opened the compartment door to find Cali and Artemis waiting. They pairs swapped, with Percy and Apollo going for a walk while the girls changed. "Hey now, I don't assault or harass or anything like that. That's defamation." He lightheartedly defended himself.
"You literally pursued a girl until she decided life as a tree would be better than with you." Percy counterargued.
"Yeah, and I learned my lesson. I don't harass anymore." He told his future brother-in-law.
Apollo looked down at the robes they wore. "These things fucking suck." He complained. They were black and had the baggiest sleeves in the world. Their only saving grace was that they were clippable on the front, but that was optional, so they could just wear them like unzipped hoodies the entire year.
"They're... not as bad as I thought they'd be." Percy noted. "At least they ain't white." He joked, making the dirty blonde laugh.
Eventually they decided to turn around and they walked back without much discussion. Apollo was too busy winking at girls he passed - the older ones - while Percy felt like he was tripping balls as they passed identical door after identical door and passed average British kid after average British kid.
It was lucky that Apollo managed to remember which one they were in and knocked on the door. Artemis opened it and was the one to let them in, shutting it behind the two guys. Both girls hadn't even put their robes on, rather were sitting in their white school uniforms with Cali putting on her socks.
Percy scooted back over to his seat and clasped his hands together, bowing to Cali with that same shit-eating grin on his face. Cali paused her sock-equipping with an incredulous look on her face. "You're so fucking racist." She said deadpan as her twin sat down.
"No, I was being... a Minecraft villager." Percy countered, happy with his answer. Neither Apollo nor Artemis had played Minecraft so didn't understand their conversation. Instead the two gods started their own one.
"Minecraft villagers don't fucking bow, Shitler." Cali laughed, continuing to the twinly antics between the two.
Percy looked at Apollo and Artemis. "She's still salty because of the time I threw her hairdryer off the roof of our apartment building." He said confidently.
Cali rolled her eyes. "You used to piss in the bath as a little kid after Mom left." She brought up, making Percy's face red with slight embarrassment as Artemis laughed next to him.
Percy's eyes narrowed in fake-anger. "Yeah, and you were a little snitch telling Mom." He said, now vividly remembering their money-saving shared bath times as little kids. It was a big financial leap for Sally, adopting two orphans off the street, so sacrifices had to be made such as Cali and Percy's early grade school dignity.
Cali raised an eyebrow. "Yeah because I sat there and got fucking pissed on?!"
Percy laughed. "Cope. I'll fucking do it again, snitch." He threatened, getting Cali to laugh as she began putting her shoes on.
The shrill voice once again came over the invisible loudspeaker and they all stopped and listened while the birds freaked the fuck out. Attention all students, we have arrived at Hogwarts. Please disembark in an orderly manner once the Hogwarts Express comes to a full stop.
I would like to formally apologize for the fact that this story wasn't updated for 10 months and 27 days. In my defence it didn't feel like it. But good news, everyone. We're at the part of the story where it's much easier to write and it's the part I literally made this story just to write - the Hogwarts setting. Boarding school fluff here we come.
Id also like the very LARGELY CREDIT SILVERSWORD12 on wattpad for WRITING THE DRACO SCENE. Hes got some great stories on wattpad and literally saved my ass by writing that so i need yall to go check him out since if he didnt help it literally woulda taken like another week for me to push through that writers block. Thank ye Silver.
And don't worry, their relationship with Draco will mend to amicable. Cali and Draco will probably end up fucking at some point before she gets with Apollo. They won't be best friends but he'd be on good terms with the group except maybe Artemis. They'll also be sorted in Slytherin - probably through sheer willpower.
I just realized this chapter isn't even that long. Again, I'm so sorry for not updating more. :(
Reminder to leave suggestions for Nero and Calis name changes (Calis name will still be Cali since Sally renamed her and Percy but her birth name's changing).
