"It's my fault," a familiar voice panicked, their speech muffled. "I shouldn't have left him alone!"
"No, it's my fault for not stopping Bakugou from going wild," another disheartened and clearer voice said.
I felt my eyes open slowly, everything blurry before I blinked a few times. Groaning, I sat upwards. "What's going on?" I mumbled.
A gasp came from my side. "Izuku!" the first voice shouted, drawing my attention. I squinted for a moment before my eyes widening, recognizing the person's face.
"Uraraka!" I let out. I glanced to the side, seeing Iida sitting with a surprised yet relieved face next to her. "Iida!"
"Izuku, you're alright..." Uraraka whispered, tears forming in her eyes.
My face transformed into one filled with worry. "Uraraka? Are you alright? What's wrong?" I asked, shooting upwards.
"Midoriya, don't sit up so fast!" Iida said panicked, causing me to give him a confused look. "Don't you remember? You were incredibly hurt!"
I blinked, glancing down before I remembered Bakugou's enraged face. "Oh...," I mumbled.
"You sure do find yourself here a lot," an older voice sighed. Recovery Girl.
I turned to the side, smiling sheepishly. "Uhm... Sorry..."
"Yeah, yeah. Just stop getting yourself into trouble." After she got out her annoyance, she gave me a light smile. "Really, sonny. I may be the school nurse, but I don't enjoy seeing students hurt."
I nodded, slightly surprised. "Y-yes, ma'am."
"You should be fine. Surprisingly enough, your injuries weren't as bad as they seemed. Still, be careful. You did hit your head." After a moment, she finished, standing up and sighing. "Alright, you can go with your friends now. Your next class should be starting soon."
Once again, I gave her a slightly surprised nod before turning towards Uraraka and Iida.
"I'm glad you're okay now, Midoriya!" Iida said, clearly concerned. I couldn't help but give a light smile. Even though the boy could definitely go a bit overboard with rules and such, he cared.
"I was so worried," Uraraka put her head in her hands. "I shouldn't have just left you there..."
"No, no!" my eyes widened as I shook my head. "It's not either of your guys' fault. I was the one who told you to leave. And Iida," I faced him, "You had no way of knowing what Bakugou would do."
After a moment, the two slightly smiled.
"Anyways," I said, laughing awkwardly, "Class is soon, right? I don't want the teachers to kill me or for you guys to get in trouble, so we should probably get going."
Luckily, with the mention of class, Iida was quickly back to his old self. "Yes!" he stood, straightening himself. "This prestigious academy deserves the best students! And to be students worthy of that title, we should always attend our classes!"
I laughed. "Exactly."
Standing up, I began to follow Iida out the door when suddenly I felt a tug on my arm.
"Izuku," Uraraka bit her lip.
I glanced down, concerned. "Yeah?" I then nodded for Iida to go forward, which he did without question.
"I..." tears began to drip onto the ground. "I was really worried, you know. I know I'm always saying this but...," she glanced up at me, sending a chill down my spine. "You're really amazing. Still, that doesn't mean you're invincible. So please...," she wiped her tears away. "Be careful, okay?"
Gulping, I nodded. "Y-yeah..."
"That's all I wanted to say," she said, letting out a sigh of relief. "We can go now."
Although I was still shaken up by her statement and sudden tears, I forced myself to smile. "O-of course."
---
For the next few days, Class 1A - and All Might, who made sure to be extra careful from then on - treated me as if I might disappear at any moment. Things soon went back to normal, though, which was definitely a relief.
Except...
Bakugou.
Every day, I'd see him walking by, looking away every time anyone shot him even the briefest of glances. Along with that, he'd been sitting alone at lunch. Which is why...
"Hey, Kacchan!" I shouted without thinking as the blonde walked by, standing to the side of my usual lunch table.
My friends gave me odd looks but I simply smiled at the boy as he froze, head down.
"Wanna come over here?" I asked cheerfully.
Bakugou's hands began to shake and, suddenly, his tray fell to the ground.
"Kacchan?!" I asked worriedly, hurrying over to him. By then, the tables around us had become silent. "Are you alright?!"
Without any warning, the blonde shot his hand out as I came near, wrapping his fingers around my shoulder.
I furrowed my brows confusedly. "What are you-"
He shot me a glare that sent shivers down my spine.
"I knew it," he growled.
"Wh-what are you talking about?" I asked worriedly, wincing as his grip strengthened.
"I KNEW IT!" he barked, throwing me to the ground. "How else would you know that stupid name?!" he spat.
My eyes widened as I hit the ground, silence around me. You could practically hear a pin drop.
"YOU WERE JUST LYING TO EVERYONE!" Bakugou shouted down at me. "YOU WERE HAVING FUN JUST MESSING WITH ALL OF US, WEREN'T YOU?!"
I furrowed my brows. "I don't know what you're-"
"YOU D*** LIAR!" he shouted.
"Bakubro, you need to calm down," Kirishima said suddenly, standing up.
"SIT DOWN, ****** HAIR!" he barked, causing the redhead to freeze. "I'm teaching this villain a lesson..."
My heart stopped. "Villain...?"
He raised his head to look at me, eyes filled with disgust. "Don't act like you don't know. The act is up, Deku."
"Bakugou, that's enough!" Iida warned, coming near.
The blonde shot him a dirty look. "You're trying to protect him? After what he did to your brother?!"
Iida suddenly stiffened, a hurt expression on his face.
My mind went back to what Iida had told me when his smile was grim.
"He's been put out of commission - at least for now. You see, there was a villain who attacked him, injuring him quite severely" His eyes had flicked towards me for a split second. "Though, his life was spared, as heroes came in time. It horrifies me, though, that he could've been killed in an instant if the villain so desired."
My heart fell. No...
"AND ICY HOT, YOU'VE SURE BEEN BUDDY BUDDY WITH HIM!" he snarled, causing Todoroki to look up with a surprised expression, replacing his usual unchanging one. "CONSIDERING HOW HE LEFT YOU IN THE HOSPITAL, I'M SURPRISED!"
I stared at Todoroki, guilt washing over me. You mean... When he wasn't at school for those first few days...
"GOD, AND YOU, ROUND FACE!" he laughed, though it was clearly filled with anger and pain. "YOU WENT AND FELL IN LOVE WITH HIM! A VILLAIN!"
Her expression fell. "S-stop that, Bakugou." She stepped forwards. "Leave him alone!"
"AM I WRONG?!" he shouted, tears in his eyes. "AND YOU KNOW WHAT'S THE WORST ABOUT YOU?!" he glared at me, voice softening as tears began to roll down his cheeks. "Even after you left, Auntie Inko wouldn't give up on you. She swore up and down that one day, you'd come back. But not even once did you go back to her." He picked me up by the collar, shaking me. "SHE EVEN CARED FOR AN EVIL B****** LIKE YOU!"
Tears fell down my face. "I..."
"YOUR OWN MOTHER!" he gritted his teeth. "YOU DIDN'T EVEN CARE FOR YOUR OWN MOTHER!"
My heart fell. My... mom...?
"BAKUGOU!" a voice boomed throughout the cafeteria, catching everyone's attention. Behind the booths stood an enraged All Might. "DROP HIM, NOW."
Just like that, I fell to the ground, still unable to process anything I had just heard. As the scene around me progressed, I simply buried my head in my hands.
Who... Am I...?
