Chapter 10: Two Broken Hearts
Haytham Point of view
I thought it never came to this, but it did. I lost her... I lost her for good Ziio my Ziio. But I know that I am the one to blame, it was my fault my doing, which caused us to be separated from each other forever. I lied to her I betrayed her trust our love gone, and right now I'm traveling to Europe to continue my work with the order.
Haytham Kenway journal, August 1st 1755
Me and Ziio were at camp that was 5 miles away from Lexington, that's right me and her alone. I've purposely sent my men back to Boston, to have a nice vacation while I'll told them that I'll will be finding out more answers about the precursor site. However I knew Charles would object, but I told him that I would be fine so the past couple of weeks I've been spending my time with Ziio.
As we both camped together and during our time we talked about each other lives, and we would spend every night making love to each other. Right now it was morning and I looked down to see Ziio who was sleeping peacefully on my chest, while I had my arms wrapped around her small nude frame I smiled and kissed her forehead.
Ziio: hmm
She soon woke up and smiled at me
Haytham: Good morning
As I runned my fingers through her hair
Ziio: morning you slept well
I smirked at her and chuckled
Haytham: very well my dear, just like every night
I whispered as I bought my lips to her.
1 hour later
Ziio had left the camp almost an hour ago, to hunt for some food to eat. In the distance I heard a horse hooves coming closer to me. I shimmied quickly up the lookout tree and I scanned the area around me. I saw in the distance was a lone rider trotting slowly through the forest, however I allowed myself to relax when I realised it was one of my men Charles Lee.
Haytham: I wonder what he brings him here?
I said to myself as I let myself down the tree, I was still wondering where was Ziio.
Back at ground level I looked around and saw the camp through Charles eyes, mine and Ziios encampment had a fireplace, two tin plates, and a canvas strung between trees under where the skins that Ziio and I covered ourselves with the warmth at night. I flipped the canvas down so that the skins were obscured, and I knelt down by the fire and collected the tin plates as I saw Charles horse came into the clearing.
Haytham: hello Charles
I said without looking at him
Charles: you knew it was me?
I nodded at him
Haytham: I saw you using your training, I was very impressed
He smiled
Charles: I was trained by the best
He said as I looked up to him, to see him gazing down at me
Charles: we've missed you Master Kenway
He said and I nodded at him
Haytham: I know
Charles eyebrows lifted
Charles: really? You know here we are
I pushed a stick into the fire and watched the tip of it glow.
Haytham: I wanted to know, that you are able to operate in my absence
Charles pursed his lips and nodded
Charles: I think you know we can, what's the real reason for your absence Haytham?
I looked up sharply from the fire
Haytham: what might it be Charles?
Charles: perhaps you are enjoying life here with your Indian woman, suspended between two worlds. Responsible to neither it must be nice to take such a holiday-
I soon cut him off
Haytham: Careful Charles
I warned suddenly aware that he looked down on me, I stood to meet his eye to be more equal terms.
Haytham: perhaps instead of concerning yourself with my activities, you should concentrate on your own. Tell me how are the matters in Boston?
Charles: we have been taking care of those matters, you would have us attend to... concerning the land.
I nodded thinking of Ziio, wondering if there was another way. I told her that I would never bring harm upon her people or the lands! But I lied to her we as the Templars want to purchase the lands. I thought.
Haytham: anything else?
I asked
Charles: we continue to look for signs of the precursor site
He said as he raised his chin
Haytham: I see
Charles: William Johnson plans to lead an expedition to the chamber
I stared at Charles in annoyance
Haytham: nobody has asked me about this
Charles: you haven't been there to ask, William thought well if we wanted to find the site... then that's the best place to start.
If Ziio was here she would have cut my head off, including Charles as well! I thought.
Charles: we will enrage the natives, if we begin setting up camp in their lands.
Charles gave me a look as though, I had taken leave if my senses. The Templar's care about upsetting a few natives? But upsetting the woman I love secretly Ziio I should change things around I thought.
Haytham: I've been thinking about the site, somehow it seems less important now
I said quickly, as I looked off into the distance.
Charles: something else you plan to neglect?
He asked impertinently
Haytham: I'm warning you!
I said and I flexed my fingers, Charles cast a look around the camp.
Charles: where is she anyway? Your Indian lover?
Haytham: nowhere you need to concern yourself with Charles, and I would thank you to remove that tone from your voice, when you speak of her in the future else I might find myself compelled to remove it forcibly.
His eyes were cold when he looked at me.
Charles: a letter has arrived
He said reaching into his sack and dropping it, so it landed at my feet. I glanced down to see my name on the front of the envelope, and I recognised the handwriting immediately. The letter came from Holden and my heart quickened just to see it, a link with my old life, my other life in England and my preoccupations there was finding my fathers killers.
Haytham: is there more?
I added
Charles: yes some good news, General Braddock has succumbed to his injuries he is dead at last.
Haytham: when was this?
Charles: he died soon after he was injured, but the news has only just reached us.
I nodded
Haytham: then that bit of business is at an end
I said as I smirked to myself
Charles: excellent! Then I shall return shall I? Tell the men that you are enjoying life here in the wilds? We can only hope that you grace us with your presence sometime in the future.
I thought of the letter from Holden
Haytham: perhaps sooner than you think Charles, I have a feeling I may soon be called away on a business. You have proven yourself more than capable of dealing with matters, perhaps you will continue to do so.
Charles pulled on the reins of his horse
Charles: as you wish Master Kenway, I will tell the men to expect you, in the meantime please give your woman our regards. With that Charles was gone I crouched a little longer by the fire, I noticed that I saw Ziio as she dropped down the tree and came striding into the clearing her face like thunder I hope she did not overhear the entire conversation between me and Charles I thought.
I stood to meet her the necklace she always wore glinted, in the morning sun and her eyes flashed angrily.
Ziio: he was alive! You lied to me Haytham!
She shouted in pure rage, as I swallowed in defeat
Haytham: but Ziio I-
Ziio: you told me he was dead... you told me he was dead so that I would show you the temple of the site.
Haytham: yes I did do that... and for that I'm sorry
I admitted as she pointed her finger at me
Ziio: and what's this about land? What was Charles saying about the land? Are you trying to take it, is that it?
I stepped closer to her
Haytham: no
Ziio: lair! How could you do this Haytham! To me! You told me that you would never commit these crimes... of taking my peoples lands. You promised me! And I trusted you uhh I gave my body to you... and this is how you repay me! Your just like the other Englishmen trying to take everything away from us.
Haytham: Ziio calm down, I can explain my-
But she drew her sword out
Ziio: I should kill you for what you've done
Haytham: Ziio my love don't do this
As I came up to her and I tried to embrace her, but I knew Ziio was stronger than that.
Ziio: NO! Don't touch me! And don't use those words on me.., you never loved me!
She shoved me on the ground with full force, as I quickly stood back up.
Haytham: you've have every right to your anger, to curse my name and wish me gone. But the truth is not what you believe it to be, I can change things Ziio... I can tell my men to-
Ziio: Leave!
Haytham: wait what!
I looked at her with great confusion oh god no! I can't loose her I've got no one else! I thought.
Ziio: leave this place and never return, for if you do.. I will tear out your heart with my own hands and feed it to the wolves.
She threatened me
Haytham: no Ziio I can't... I don't want this to end between us! I love you!
I said as tried to pull her towards me, as I confessed my true feelings to her but this is how I did not want this to go. But Ziio placed her sword on my chest to stop my sudden movements.
Ziio: this is all your fault! There is nothing between us anymore.. if you loved me you would have never lied to me in the first place Haytham!
Haytham: only listen to me Ziio, I -
Ziio: swear it!
She shouted, I signed in defeat knowing there's nothing I can do.
Haytham: as you wish
I hung my head
Ziio: then we are finished
She said as I started to pack my things and return to Boston.
Once I had finished packing all of my belongings, I walked up to Ziio who has her arms crossed to her chest. This pained my heart, this was one of my worst days I have experienced along with my fathers death and my half sister Jenny was missing for many years. Now Ziio is another person who is leaving my life, forever.
Ziio: you may go
She spoke to me in a harsh tone
Haytham: I know that we may not cross into each other's paths again, I know I have broken our bond... even though you will not believe this.. I... love you Ziio..and I wish you the best for the future.
Ziio pointed her finger towards the forest, showing me the way out.
Ziio: just go
I huffed and I bowed my head.
Haytham: farewell
As she turned her back against me, for some reason I could feel that she wanted to cry maybe that's why she avoided eye contact with me. As I began to make my way out of the forest, I did not dare to look back but when I did I saw Ziio on the ground with her hands covering her face. I knew she was crying a large part of me wanted to run after her, and hold in her in my arms for comfort, but I respected Ziio promise and I continued to walk further on.
I swear I almost had tears in my eyes, when I was writing this chapter. If you have noticed with this chapter I've included Haytham and Ziio broken relationship from Assassins creed forsaken book. The reason why I did this because this was the real reason why they broke up, so this is it only one more chapter left.
