Chapter 5 - New Things Learned

Crowley sighs as he shakes his head, and you look over at him from where you were looking at where the 'cat' was being taken away.

"Well, that was quite the unexpected fracas. But I hereby declare that orientation has concluded. Housewardens, please escort your students back to the dorms." He pauses and looks around, "Hm? Come to think of it, I don't see Housewarden Draconia of Diasomnia anywhere."

The Luxray-eared man lets out a curt laugh. "And that surprises you? Dude's a total recluse."

"Wait..." The white haired boy you helped put the fire out on his robes, "Did anyone even invite him?"

The blond-and-lavender haired boy raises an eyebrow, "If you're so worried about him missing out, perhaps you should have told him yourself?"

The white-haired boy looks away with a quiet huff, "...Maybe, but I don't know him too well either."

More whispers flood the room- not as many as when you got revealed as a woman, but still may- about his 'Draconia' guy.

"Draconia..? Like, Malleus Draconia? That guy?"

"So it's true, he really does go to school here?"

"Yikes..."

You feel a pang of sympathy for whoever 'Malleus Draconia' is. Most people seem sort of... scared of him.

Y'know what? If you ever meet this 'Draconia' guy, you'll try to be nice to him. He can't be that scary, especially considering you hang out with powerful Legendary Pokémon.

"Ah. Just as I'd excepted."

You spin around and see a short man walk forward. He has neck length black hair with pink highlights, and some of the most bright red eyes you've ever seen. And you're the same girl who's seen some interestingly colored eyes and hair. Despite how short he is, his voice is surprisingly deep.

"I'd figured I'd come down here and see for myself whether Malleus had made an appearance," He explains, a polite smile on his face as he strides to the middle of the room, "But, once again, he was evidently not informed that his presence was required at an official ceremony."

"You have my sincerest apologies," The blue-white haired boy says as he presses his hand to his chest. You, however, know he doesn't really care deep down, "I assure you, this oversight was not intended as a snub."

"I mean, you must admit, he's not exactly the easist person to strike up conversation with." Riddle says with a shrug, his expression changing to a slight grimace.

The black haired boy sighs and shakes his head in disappointment, "No matter. All those who are in Diasomnia, follow me. I just hope he doesn't sulk about this..."

You stand there awkwardly with Poni and Moonstone as you watch students trickle out of the room.

Riddle looks at you and bows politely. "Thank you for your help today. I hope out paths will cross again."

"I hope so too! It'd be nice!" You say with a sweet and excited smile as you nod, and Riddle blushes slightly and leaves.

"Until we meet again." The white-blue haired boy gives you a sly wink and walks out with the other students.

Eventually, it's just you, Crowley, Poni, and Moonstone left in the room. Crowley peers over you shoulder to ensure everyone is now out of the room before turning his focus to you.

"Well Y/N, I'm afraid this is the most unfortunate turn of events..." Crowley says with a tired sigh, "I'm afraid you'll not be attending Night Raven College after all. Surely you realize I cannot very well admit a student with no magical ability- with no strange creatures who can weild magic on their side or not- and much less a girl, to my Academy."

"Ha! No issue!" You say with a polite smile, "I totally understand. Guess it makes sense considering I seem to be the only human girl here, that this is a boy's Academy. So I'm not upset whatsoever."

"Worry not!" Crowley says with a polite smile, "The Dark Mirror will see your safely home. Now, step into the gate, and visualize from whence you came."

You not as you quickly put Ogerpon and Moonstone back in their Pokeballs and quickly step towards the mirror. You take a determined breath and visualize home.

Your dormroom... your friends... all the Pokémon you can see as you explore Paldea.

How you promised you'd see all your friends tonight at 7 to game and have fun. Mirror, just send you home! You got friends to hang out with and adventures to have!

"O Dark Mirror, send this soul back to where they belong!"

...your determined expression blanks as nothing happens, and the face in the mirror just emptily stares at you.

Crowley clears his throat awkwardly. "L- let us, er... just try this again. O Dark Mirror, return-"

"There is no such place." The Mirror interrupts coldly, and your blank expression turns crestfallen.

Uh... yes there is... Paldea. Take you home to your region already!

"What?" Crowley says as he takes a step back.

"There is no place this soul belongs in this world. None."

...wait, not this world? Isn't Twisted Wonderland just a new region?

"But how can that be?" Crowley brings his hand to his head, looking startled, "My, but today is a veritable cavalcade of impossible phenomena!"

Oh dear Arceus...

You clear your throat, "Uh... what? What do you mean there's no place in this world for me? The region of Paldea is pretty well known, right? I mean, aren't all the regions well known?" You blink slowly, feeling dread sink in, "And why haven't I heard of the region "Twisted Wonderland"? And where's the Pokémon?"

Crowley sighs a bit, "This has never happened throughout my long tenure. I must admit, I am at something of a loss. Tell me, what is this land of "Pal Dee Ah"?"

You raise an eyebrow at his miserable attempt of pronouncing Paldea, but clesr your throat.

"Paldea, you mean. Large region. Has the Paldean Crater that's kinda a world famous place to visit? Has the popular academy, "Pomelo Academy"? Hm?"

"Hm... strange." He tilts his head, curious, "I'm afraid I'm not familar with such a place. I am intimately acquainted with the origins of any student who has ever come here, and yet this mysterious homeland of your's eludes me."

Crowley thinks for a moment, before extending a clawed hand to you, "Let us go to the library and look it up, shall we?"

You gingerly take his hand and he leads you to a large and gothic library even larger than the one at Pomelo Academy. You look around in amazement as you take it in, and a small book titled, 'The Animals and Monsters of Twisted Wonderland' gets your attention.

You glance at Crowley, who has pulled away and is perusing through maps, and gently pick up the book and glance at the glossary.

Cats... cats... cats... oh! Cat!

You smile as you flip onto the page about cats and read through it.

Woah... they remind you of Skitty or Sprigatito! So cute... but that strange 'cat' from earlier did look a little different. Hm...

"Just as I suspected. Nothing." You look up from the book to Crowley, who's shaking his head, "Not only is your homeland unknown to me, I do not see anything about it in any map from any point in history. Now, are you quite sure you come from such a place? That wasn't some sort of lie or jape?"

You wrinkle your nose at the idea of lying about your home region. "Nope," You say as you shake your head, "I live in Paldea. Very real place. I'm even semi-fluent in Paldean."

Crowley taps a clawed finger against his chin. "The only explanation is that you come from another planet. Or perhaps you were summoned here from another dimension..."

Hm... seems likely, considering that mirror in your room...

"Show me everything you've brought here with you. Do you have any form of identification, a drivers license perhaps? Or even a shoe? You do have your bag..."

You nod quickly and pull your leather bag off your back, sitting down on the ground as you start pulling everything out of the bag and neatly setting it down.

Your spare Pokéballs... your Rotom Phone (who's currently alseep, thank Arceus)... your Pokémon who aren't in your boxes... your potions and medical supplies for Pokémon... berries... some non-digital Pokédollars you carry around (maybe a few thousand?)... your Tera Orb... just all your usual supplies... even your camping supplies, interestingly enough. You didn't realize you had that on you...

Oh! Your Trainer ID and your Student ID! You pick them up and hold them out to Crowley to look at, who's crouching in front of you and watching as you pull your thinks out of your bag.

"Hm... I have not heard of any "Pomelo Academy"? And what perhaps do you train, my dear "trainer"?"

You blink slowly, "...I train Pokémon..?"

"...what, pray tell, is a "Pokey Man"?"

...how did he mispronounce that so badly..?

"...Pokémon," You repeat, "And they're beings that inhabit the world alongside humans! They're beings people catch in Pokéballs-" You gesture at your empty Pokéballs- "And humans train them and use them in battles, or just live alongside them. I'm a Pokémon trainer. That little circle on my Trainer ID and Student ID signifies I'm a Pokémon Champion..."

"...you are a "Pokey man" champion?" Crowley asks, looking intrigued.

"Yep..." You say with a shrug, "I'm actually one of the strongest one's in my world. It's kinda a whole thing... but it's not too important."

You sigh, "I'm stuck in another world which probably doesn't accept Pokédollars as payment, so I have nothing to pay with. Which means I can't feed me or my Pokémon... oh dear Arceus, save my soul..."

"Well, this is quite a predicament." Crowley says with a frown as he picks up Grace's Pokéball (your Milotic) and gingerly sets it in your bag. You and him place your items back in your bag as he keeps talking, "I cannot have someone with no apitude for magic bumbling around my academy, even if they do have strange forms of familars called "Pokey Mans". And yet, as an educator, I am loath to dispell a young person with no viable cent to their name and no way to communicate to their guardian."

He stands up and places a hand on his chest, "Truly, my grace is boundless."

"Uhhh..." You say with a raised eyebrow as you pick up your bag, zipping it shut, and set it back on your back as you stand up.

And you though Clavell was weird for how he pretended to be Clive...

"Hmmmmm... ah!" Crowley's eyes light up as he gets an idea, "There is a vacant building on this campus. It was, in fact, used as a dorm long ago. With a proper cleaning, it should be habital enough. Out of the profound kindness of my heart, I will allow you to live there for the time being."

You tilt your head at this man's ability to just keep complimenting himself... downright impressive.

"In the meantime, we will investigate other ways to send you home. Dear me, but I am a gracious man indeed! A model educator, one might say. Well then, I shall take you to your dorm straight away! An older building, but it has plenty of... character, one might say."

You quickly clear your throat, "Uh... thank you sir. But if you don't mind, may I please bring some books with me from this library? I just want to learn a bit more about this world if I'm stuck in it for the time being..."

Crowley thinks for a moment before nodding, "I shall allow that. Oh, how kind am I?"

You feel your eyes light up as you pick up the 'Animals and Monsters' book, and look around quickly and grabbing a few other books, including one on geography and history of this world.

You walk back up to Crowley, holding the books in your arms with an excited grin.

"Ready! I'm used to sleeping outside anyways, so an older building won't bother me at all! Thank you for giving me a place to stay, Headmage!"

An old dorm can't be that bad, right?
