"ughhh," jimin groaned, in annoyance.
usually, the two boys would be happily curled up in bed together by now, but jimin had a big paper due that night. it had been a few days since the two had any real fun together. finals were coming up and both of their workloads increased significantly. namjoon didn't mind it much, considering he had finished most of his assignments early. it wasn't too difficult for him, but jimin, on the other hand, was heavily struggling with it.
"what's wrong?" joon asked, pulling his eyes away from the anime he was watching to look at what jimin was doing.
"this fucking paper," jimin said, a bitter tone laced in his voice.
joon looked over at jimin's work, seeing all the notes he had written down in his notebook and his open laptop where he was writing the paper.
namjoon took another bite of his ramen, not sure what to say, wanting to avoid irritating jimin any further.
"do you want me to help with it? or... i can make you some food?"
jimin shook his head, focusing intently on the bright laptop screen, typing quickly on the keyboard.
"no thanks."
joon just nodded, quietly taking another bite of his food, trying to bring his focus back to the show he was watching.
over the next few minutes, he could hear many annoyed sighs and small curses fall from jimin's lips. he didn't look over to the boy until he finally heard him snap.
"fucking bullshit!" jimin yelled out, throwing all his materials onto the coffee table aggressively, his notebook landing on the floor, not even bothering to close his laptop.
jimin marched angrily to his room, slamming the door shut, leaving namjoon alone in the living room, a bit surprised at jimin's outburst.
of course, he didn't blame the boy. jimin had been working so hard all week- he couldn't imagine how stressed out jimin must have been. college truthfully was very stressful. there was a constant pressure to do good and succeed. namjoon loved writing, so he didn't mind the pressure. jimin, on the other hand, didn't seem to be so fond of it.
namjoon wondered why jimin chose to major in writing in the first place, considering he hated it so much. but he also understood that lots of people aren't sure what they want to do when they first come to college. for some, it requires lots of trial and error to choose what they want to do for a career. and jimin definitely seemed to be one of those people.
of course, namjoon wanted to go comfort jimin, but he knew going in there now would just frustrate jimin more, so he decided he would work on jimin's paper for him in the meantime.
-
after about twenty minutes went by, joon had managed to finish the entire paper. he had written so many essays, and stories in his lifetime, that by now he knew what teachers required to get an above-average grade.
so, after finishing up the paper, joon headed to the kitchen. he heated up two packets of ramen for jimin, adding lots of extra sauces and seasoning to make it taste even better. he put the ramen into a bowl and then grilled up some veggies to put on the top as well.
after he finished the meal, he went to the fridge, grabbing out jimin's favorite soda, pouring it into a glass over ice, and throwing in a straw.
joon placed the drink and ramen onto one of jimin's dinner trays and finally headed to his room to check on him.
when he reached jimin's door, he turned the nob just slightly, peeking in a bit to make sure jimin wasn't changing or anything.
his heart practically shattered as he saw the boy curled up in his bed, face in his pillow, clearly crying.
namjoon opened the door fully, walking in and setting the tray of food down on jimin's dresser.
he walked over to the other side of the bed, laying down beside jimin, and facing him.
jimin raised his head a little and joon lifted his hand to wipe the boy's tears, just the small action causing more tears to stream down jimin's red and puffy face.
joon sat there in silence with the boy for a minute, wiping his tears, and eventually leaning down to kiss him.
jimin kissed back, already feeling just a bit better from joon's comfort.
they pulled away after a minute, joon speaking up.
"i'm sorry you're upset," he said, grazing his thumb over jimin's cheek, "i hate it when you're sad."
jimin sniffled a bit, closing his eyes, and not saying anything.
"do you want to talk about it?"
jimin just sniffled a bit more, letting his head fall forward onto namjoon's chest.
"i don't want to do writing anymore," he whispered out, "i hate it. i can't do this for the rest of my life. you... you're so good at it. it comes easy to you. i just... i know i won't be happy if i keep doing this."
joon nodded.
"what do you want to do instead?"
jimin shrugged.
"i don't know... just not this. i wanna switch my major next year. i talked to my mom on the phone yesterday and she thinks it's a good idea, too."
joon just nodded again, agreeing.
"that sounds good. i mean... you shouldn't keep doing something that makes you this unhappy. there's plenty of different majors at our school, too. i'm sure you'll find something you love."
jimin just shook his head, letting some more tears fall.
"i won't see you much." jimin mumbled out.
joon grabbed onto the sides of jimin's face, pulling his head up to look at him.
"i'll still see you a lot, jimin," he said, reassuring him, "i mean... we probably won't have classes together anymore, but we can still meet at the café and hang out after school. we'll still be together all the time."
jimin sat there for a minute, eventually nodding.
"i guess so."
joon gave him one last peck, before sitting up and giving a quick pat to jimin's thigh.
"come on. change into something comfy, and come back out into the living room. i made you some food... and we can watch a movie. it'll be a good night."
jimin just shook his head, still looking sad.
"the papers due tonight. i have to finish it before i can do anything and i'm sure it will take me the rest of the night to-"
namjoon cut him off.
"the papers already done, jimin."
jimin looked confused for a second before his eyes went wide.
"wait... you didn't..," jimin started, clear excitement laced in his voice.
namjoon just nodded.
"i finished it. it's no big deal for me, especially since it stresses you out so much. if you need my help with anything school-related for the rest of the year, just ask. i really don't mind. and your switching majors next year anyway, so-"
jimin cut him off with a quick hug, letting his head fall into joon's shoulder. he left a few small kisses to joon's neck, loving the cute little laughs that came from his boyfriend who was clearly embarrassed.
it was as if namjoon had solved all his problems with just a few sentences, feeling like a weight was lifted off his shoulders.
"i love you," jimin said, leaning in for a real kiss, feeling giddy, "thank you so much."
and namjoon just brushed it off. he was just happy that his boyfriend was happy, glad that he could take some of the pressure off.
and he couldn't help but laugh when jimin hopped up from the bed, taking a big bite of the food joon had made him, and a swig of his drink.
"i'm starving," jimin said, with a laugh.
namjoon just laughed back, smiling as jimin took a few more big bites of the ramen.
"now go get the movie started!" jimin said, turning back to him, "i'll change and be right out."
namjoon nodded, excitedly hopping up from the bed, feeling ecstatic about getting to spend the rest of the night with his boyfriend.
