Walking the Tightrope
I walk a slanted line
Between what's wrong and right
I let it guide me
All through the night.
I let it fill me up
And push me down,
Then I get up again,
And swear that I won't drown.
Sometimes I feel like
A tightrope walker,
Just a step away from
The edge of my rocker.
I feel like all my marbles
Have spilled out of the case,
And I can't find them
I can't win their race.
I'm not the sharpest knife
In the drawer,
But I know the difference
Between peace and war.
And even when I'm sad
I'll be alright
Because I know the difference
Between what's wrong and right.
It's not so hard to see the line
Even when it's dark outside,
Even when I've told the truth
And they've still lied
Oh I walk a slanted line
Though I'm not always right
I watch it stretch into the distance
And then fade into the night.
And even though it's hard to read
And sometimes makes me cry
I will follow it
Until the day I die.
