Parody
The light in darkness
That never shines.
The one that always lets you
Read between the lines.
The smile, slow in coming,
That rarely smiles twice,
Means so much more somehow,
Than those that smile thrice.
A word, in anger,
That cannot touch the truth,
Is so very different,
Than one that's not uncouth.
They say that pain unveils
The truths that are not said,
But when fear is truth's lever,
Truth is truly dead.
They say they'd like to reap
Heaven's fine rewards,
But then they turn and are afraid
Of dark death's open doors.
I should like to see
What on earth you'd do,
If suddenly the truth unveiled
Itself in truth to you.
Would you laugh
And say it lies,
As you've done so many times,
Or would you open up your eyes?
I wonder, yes, I do,
If you really know
The things you say you do.
Say it, go on, go.
Say that you'll not tell a lie
Else to put you in a hearse.
Tell me you'll be better,
When all you are is worse.
Say that you are sorry,
And say that you are done,
But my dearest, darling parody,
It's only just begun.
