Fragile Eyes
You walk about
As if you're still alive;
Going through motions
With bright shining lies.
You tell us you're fine
But I can see that you're broken;
You hide deep inside
Where hurt is your token.
You say you're healing,
Slowly of course,
And though I know that it's true,
still I must force
Myself to keep
Bottled up inside
The pain that I feel,
Hearing you cry.
You say you'll be okay,
And I know that it's true-
You're too stuborn by far
To remain black and blue.
But I would be lying
If I said it isn't hard-
Watching you heal
From a place that's so far.
I wish I could be with you,
Look into your eyes,
Hug you and protect you
From the way that your heart dies.
But I can't beside you
To tell if you speak lies,
Though I know that I would see
Only your fragile eyes.
So I'll stay here
In my freezing desert,
And wish I was there
To stave off your hurt.
And from here I'll stare
At my bright little screen,
Reassuring you
As I try not to scream.
I'll do what I can
And all the while I'll pray
That you are telling the truth
And you'll get better each day.
