Chapter 6: The Trio

I was beyond relieved when The first two classes were finally over. It was a complete nightmare. I never had to use my brain so intensely before, because I had almost infinite knowledge. Now, I could barely use a graph. I was so exhausted and just craving something edible- or hungry as it's called. I was still getting used to all these human feelings. The school allowed the students to eat lunch outside, in a gated up area at the back of the school that was once a playground for elementary kids. I took a seat down at a soggy wooden bench and began to chow down on some good food.

I looked up at one point and saw Erin Meggeda from earlier today. She was standing around by the school building, not moving. Was she waiting for someone? Then I saw another girl with dark hair walk over to her. I gasped, and recognized her from the back of my Algebra class. So they were acquaintances! I thought triumphantly. But I stopped when I noticed yet another girl stride toward the two. This girl had medium length, brown curly hair down to her shoulders. She also wore dark make-up, a black tank top with a white jacket over it, skinny jeans, and -yes- black knee-high boots. Are they all siblings? I thought. They wear the same kind of outfits and makeup. The only big difference is their hair. I'm a little nervous about-

My blood froze when I saw the girl trio point their eyes in my direction, and began to walk toward me. I just casually sat there, pretending to be all into something on the ground, when they stopped in front of me. "Hey," I recognized as Erin's voice. She had a deeper voice for a girl, I just noticed. I looked up and faced the three mysterious girls.

"Hey, like I said earlier, I'd introduce ya to some of my buds. This is Terra," She pointed at the girl with the brown hair. "'Sup."

"And this is Zelda." Erin gestured to the black-haired girl. Zelda only nodded at me.

"Hey," I greeted awkwardly. I pulled the hood of my jacket over my head at a sudden chill in the air, and to better conceal my wings, just in case anybody spotted them out. "You guys seem,..Nice."

"You better believe it," Erin said with a smile. " We're not related by the way. Just friends. These crazy girls and I really know how to stir up some trouble am I right?" And the three let out a chorus of somewhat chilling giggles. I shivered in my jacket. "Ah, we're not trying to scare ya. Just thought we'd help you break the ice, ya know, get to know some people better. We won't bite." The three laughed again. But this time, it did not sound like typical, bubbly, girly giggles.

The emphasis on the word bite sent phantom spiders up my spine. I stood up and walked over to the trashcan to throw away my trash. "I better go-" I said hurriedly, desperate to get away from those creepalicious girls.

"W-wait!" cried Terra. She ran up to me and touched me on the shoulder. "Please don't run away from us! Please don't turn us away!" I turned around and faced her. Her comrades followed slowly behind her. "Listen, we are always being shunned and rejected because of our appearance and morbid sense of humor and what not. We are going through some really tough times right now that I'm not going to share with anybody at the moment. So, the stress and the grief we are experiencing is just showing through by the way we dress and act. So please, have some compassion."

I was a little stunned. Erin and Zelda's faces seemed promising enough. I sighed, and shook Terra's hand. "OK. I'm very sorry for judging you right away. I'm having a little trouble adjusting myself to some things, so I guess I understand where you're coming from. Are we good?"

All three of the girls smiled, their eyebrows furrowing. "Yeah, we're good."

Across the outside lunch area, a random teenage guy screamed. I started, and ran over to the other side of the gate. One of the freshman guys was sprawling in pain on the ground, clutching his left arm, which was dripping in blood. All the teens rushed to help him, some teachers and administrators ran out to see what the commotion was about, one person was dialing 911. "What the-" I turned around, but the three girls had already ran inside with half the other students. I was frozen, not knowing what to do, staring at the boy on the ground in literal tears.

I pushed through the suffocating crowd of teachers and students. stooping low to the ground, I looked under and over the gate to see if somebody was hanging around with a weapon or something. I gasped and flew back at what I saw under the bushed past the gate.

It was an enormous, black, hideous cobra, hood and all. Too frightened to think straight and logical at the moment, I squeezed through the sea of people again and ducked inside, terrified.
