Chapter 1: The Fallen

Under the grey, grim sky, being overtaken by black ominous clouds eerily floating away above their heads, two typical teenage girls are on their way home from a great day at school. Chattering the dark afternoon away, their exuberant attitudes are a high contrast to the spooky environment around them. The two girls, Dolores and Katerina, are having an everyday conversation between themselves.

Dolores peers up at the sky and scoffs. "Why is the sky so dark and dreary today? The Weather Forecast said it was supposed to be partly cloudy to sunny."

Katerina gives an indifferent shrug. "I have no idea. Why don't you just ask Martha, she's the weather geek."

"You mean the everything geek," Dolores cheesily adds in, "She's basically the valedictorian. You ask her anything, she'll probably know it." She peered back up at the sky once more. "But seriously, I'm no meteorologist, but that sky is starting to freak me out a little bit. Maybe there's a big ol' storm coming. I think we should go our separate ways and head home before it downpours."

The two girls almost jumped out of their skin when they heard an incredible boom of thunder behind them. Lightning flashed and streaked madly across the sky, but there was no rain in sight. The girls wheeled around and peered up at the frightening sky, the clouds as black as night. A fierce gale with the force of  hurricane hit the earth out of nowhere, and the two girls thought Heaven itself was going to collapse on top of them. Katerina screamed, but both of them were too frightened and too intrigued to move. Thunder shook the skies again. Suddenly there was a part in the clouds, and light pierced through it like a beacon. Dolores opened her eyes, squinting, trying to fathom what was going on. Even with the dirt and strong wind in her face, she looked up at the parting in the clouds. She noticed a mysterious black object fall from the parting. The parting in the clouds closed up as fast as it had opened. The thunder began to diminish, ever so slightly, the thunder claps shrinking to soft rumbling whispers in the heavens. The lightning failed to cease, continuing to flash uncontrollably.

For a good few minutes, the two girls just stood there, unmoving. Dolores was trembling, Katerina was whimpering, panting, and quivering in terror, clutching tight to Dolores's school sweatshirt. "What, the hell, was THAT?!" She screamed at Dolores. Dolores angrily shoved Katerina off of her. "Why are you asking ME?!" she shouted. "I'm just as confused as you are, alright?? Chill out for like two seconds. Geez. I saw something weird fall from the sky. Let's go check it out!" Without waiting for a response from Katerina, she shot off into the distance.

"Dolores!!" Katerina screamed. She was not sure whether she should run home, follow her friend, or just sit in the grass clutching her knees to her chest rocking back and forth. She stared at Dolores far off in the field. Dolores stopped and turned around to face Katerina. Katerina gasped.

"Come on Kat!" She shouted to her. Dolores ran farther off until Katerina could no longer see her.

"Oh, Doggone it Dolores!" Katerina mumbled to herself as she stood up, wiping her skirt of. She soon caught up with her friend, panting and gasping like a fish out of water.

"Girl, why don't you give me a warning before you-" Katerina was cut off. "Oh, my, gosh.."

Dolores and Katerina stared at the ground dumbfounded for a few seconds. In front of them, on the ground, lied a person, unconscious. She looked to be about sixteen. She had long, straight brown hair, and was covered in a tattered and torn white dress. She had blood running from her cut lip, and her whole body was covered in dirt and bruises.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" screamed Katerina. "Should we call an ambulance or something?! Get out your phone!" she pulled out her own iphone and began to dial 911. "Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh.."

Instead Dolores bent down and inspected the mysterious girl on the ground. "Was there like a plane crash or something?" She siad out loud while Katerina yelled at the emergency station. With gentle hands, she gingerly rolled the girl over on her side, the safest way to position someone who was injured. Suddenly, she gave a small cry and gasped sharply.

"What now?!" Cried Katerina, on the verge of tears. She also gasped. "Holy..."

"Did she fall on a bird or something?"

"Don't be ridiculous!" Dolores shot back. "This girl has, like, wings. Like the wings on a bird or something."

"should I have called Area 51 instead?" laughed Katerina nervously.

"No time for jokes Kat!" Dolores snapped back. She sighed in awe, staring at the girl on the ground. The lightning above illuminated her bruised face. Thunder pealed off into the distance, the clouds getting ever darker as they rolled away. Dolores muttered to herself. "Is this even possible?"
