Chapter Thirty Two - Remembrances of Times Long Past.

We made our way to the cheery breakfast nook in the kitchen. The sun had broken through the clouds and the bright blue sky calmed me. We sat down and Rachel brought us some sandwiches. Rachel joined us at the table. I stare at her expectantly.

"Okay Keyland. I haven't even told the professor this yet..." She says softly.

The professor looks up at me wide eyed his mouth full of sandwich. He finishes his mouthful.

"Tell me what?" He asks.

"I was... recently... married to an assassin." She says slowly.

I choke on my tea.

"You married Sebby?!" I cough.

"Yeah it wasn't a ceremony or anything just a justice of the peace." She says quickly.

I raise an eyebrow.

"He thought it would be better if we married in secret. He has too many enemies. He wanted to protect me." She says not meeting my eyes.

"What made you leave?" I ask.

"I heard him and Jim talking about their plan, for you... Jim really has gone crazy. He is going to murder someone named Sherlock Holmes? Does this name mean anything to you?" She asks.

"Yes It does, but this is not news to me. He told me at Christmas." I reply.

"Why does he have to kill him?" She asks.

"Because I love him." I breathe.

"I thought so. Jim really wants to marry you. I don't know if he even feels love. We need you to get somewhere safe. And we need to warn Shamrock." She says worriedly.

"Sherlock. And I've already warned him. He will be okay." I say sadly.

"Oh good." She replies. The professor continues to eat his sandwich.

"When did you leave?" I ask.

"Right after Moriarty stole the crown Jewels." She replies.

"I see." I say.

"This Moriarty character, he wouldn't happen to be the one poisoning you would he?" The professor asks.

"Yes he is." I reply.

"Fascinating." The professor remarks.

"Why do you say that professor?" I ask.

"My wife and I went through a similar situation. There was another man who was trying to get her attention." He says with a lost look.

"What happened?" Rachel asks.

"The man tried to kill me. We got a police officer to put him in jail." He replies.

"And he stayed away?" I ask.

"Heavens no. What kind of mad man would stop at that?" The professor exclaimed.

"What happened then?" I ask.

"My brother ended up shooting him. It ended up that the police wanted the man alive or dead. He ended up getting off of the murder with a plea of insanity. He was able to make it to our wedding." The professor remembered.

"It was a different world back then." I reply.

"I believe it was a better one." He says thoughtfully.

Rachel frowned at her plate.

"What's wrong Rachel?" I ask.

"I don't feel very well." Her hand clutched her stomach.

Rachel made a break for the bathroom.

I thanked the Professor for his kindness then went to go talk to Rachel.

"Hey. You feeling any better?" I ask.

"Yes and no." She responds.

She looked down at her stomach. I closed the bathroom door.

"Are you pregnant?" I ask.

"It's too early to tell for sure... but I think so." She said her eyes filling with tears.

"Hey It's okay!" I said pulling her in for a hug. "I'll help you if you need anything!"

She sighed.

"Is this why you left him? Sebastian I mean." I say.

"Yes. He is an assassin! He works for a monster." She hisses.

"Just because he works for a monster doesn't mean he is one." I reply logically.

"I know! But can't do this! I can't bring a baby into the world at such a dangerous time! Besides he told me he doesn't want children. I'm scared." She whimpers.

"Are you going to keep the baby?" I ask softly.

"Of course I am! He or she is Sebastian's child. The baby may be all I get from our relationship." She exclaims.

"Does he know why you left?" I ask.

"Yes. We had a huge fight." She says sadly.

"Rachel. If you need anything I'm only a half hour away. I'm here for you." I say.

"I know nothing about children!" She exclaims standing up off the floor and pacing around the large bathroom.

"I know you will be a great mother." I say seriously.

"How?" She asks running a hand over her stomach.

"You are faithful and kind and you have seen such darkness but you are still light." I smile.

My phone buzzed with a message from Juniper.

-We need you at home now!!!- The text read.

"Rachel we still have time to figure this out. Here is my number I'm only a phone call away." I say.

I gave her one more quick hug then hurriedly said my goodbyes.

Juniper's message worried me.

What could be wrong?
