The Waves by Virginia Woolf
READ: 06.05.17 - 09.05.17
BOOK: The Waves
AUTHOR: Virginia Woolf
GENRE: Classic
BRIEF DESCRIPTION: 'The Waves' is a portrait of the intertwined lives of six friends - Bernard, Neville, Louis, Jinny, Susan, and Rhoda. The book follows these characters as they develop from childhood to maturity and follows their different ambitions and passions.
REVIEW: It took me ten pages or so to understand how this book was written as it is written from all six points of view which sounds daunting, but I got used to it very quickly. The perspectives all blend together to tell almost one story.
The prose is so beautiful, and I've written down so many quotes from it because it is truly word-porn. The characters are all very relatable (at least for me) and I found that a lot of my feelings were articulated in the novel which surprised me seeing as I never really relate to characters in classics. I felt their emotions so strongly, and teared up at multiple points which is rare for me.
FINAL VERDICT: I'm sure that I will read this many more times to truly appreciate its beauty.
