GENRE: Poetry
BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Emily Brontë's most passionate, powerful, poems on death, nature's beauty and the passage of time.
REVIEW: I'm the type of person who never really reads poetry on my own accord, and every poem I have ever read has been for school. So I thought that reading some of Emily Brontë's best poems would be a good starting place for my exploration of poetry I guess.
I actually did enjoy reading most of these poems (there were 30), and she really grasped at what human emotions feel like and how they toy with you. She captured perfectly the feeling of fearing and embracing death, and I did relate to a lot of what she was saying. There were magical, beautiful pieces of imagery that did make my 'writer heart' flutter. I didn't really enjoy the poems centred around nature, they weren't as interesting to me as the others. That's just a personal preference though.
I will definitely have to read these again, and again probably, to fully understand and comprehend what she has written. Some extra research may be needed as well.
FINAL VERDICT: Generally this was a fun and inspiring read, which made me realise that I should give poetry more of a chance next time I choose what I want to read.
