Stalingrad by Antony Beevor

READ: 12.02.17 - 16.02.17

BOOK: Stalingrad

AUTHOR: Antony Beevor

GENRE: Non-Fiction

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: A narrative history of the battle fought in and around the city of Stalingrad during WW2 as well as the events leading up to it. It recounts the 'epic turning point of WW2'. [Non-Fiction]

REVIEW: So this is the first non-fiction book I've ever actually read without being forced to, and I was interested in this war that I knew so little about. Disclaimer now: it helps a lot if you have background knowledge of World War Two. Surprisingly I enjoyed it a lot, and Beevor has a talent for really painting a full picture of the war.

For me, the most interesting parts were the descriptions of the soldier's lives, and the horrors they faced. It was so insane for me to think that these atrocities actually took place, and there's a sense of nonchalance when talking about the deaths of the millions of men which really chills you. It made me question what humanity is.

FINAL VERDICT: If you're interested in war I really suggest this book. For me, it was quite hard to get through at times because I grew bored or confused, but I would recommend powering through.

RATING: 5.5/10
