Room by Emma Donoghue

READ: 13.04.17

BOOK: Room

AUTHOR: Emma Donoghue

GENRE: Thriller

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Jack is five. He lives in a single, locked room with his Ma. He is the product of his Ma and her kidnapper, and he's never seen the outside world. But that will all change when his Ma creates a plan to get out and escape that room.

REVIEW: I just loved this book. I'd watched the film already so I knew vaguely what happens but this book was just so charming and beautiful. I've never been a huge fan of books told from a child's perspective, but the author so vividly catches the essence of a five year old that the story is written in such a believable tone you'd think a five year old actually wrote it (that's not rude in anyway, I'm sure that's how it was intended to be written).

The plot fascinated me from the start, and I liked the fact that unlike other kidnapping books it didn't focus too much on the horrors of being kidnapped but instead about making any place a home. There were so many minor details that I adored, and overall I thought the book was stunning. I read it in one day because I couldn't put it down.

FINAL VERDICT: I'm going to have to read this book again, and maybe I'll notice even more beautiful details. I loved every page from the first to the last.

RATING: 9.5/10
