Cove by Cynan Jones
READ: 02.10.17
BOOK: Cove
AUTHOR: Cynan Jones
GENRE: Short Story
BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Out at sea, in a sudden storm, a man is struck by lightning. When he wakes, injured and adrift on a kayak, his memory of who he is and how he came to be there is shattered. Now he must pit himself against the pain and rely on his instincts to get him back to shore.
REVIEW: After a really bad reading slump, I wanted a short book which would get me started for the month. This novella is less than a hundred pages long, yet it is so descriptive and powerful. It conjured up some really disturbing and painful images which made me cringe at times when he described his injuries.
The style of writing seemed really fresh and made the story even more interesting. I liked how nothing concrete was ever said and you were left to piece everything together through the hints given.
FINAL VERDICT: A really fascinating book which I enjoyed a lot more than I thought I would.
