You're Allowed To Feel Sad

Ya know the character Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh? How even though he spent most of his time moping and complaining, his friends always came to visit him and did their best to cheer him up.? They always assisted him in his reoccurring problem of losing his tail. That's how real friends should be. That's how loved ones should treat you.

Whether or not you are clinically depressed or experience episodes of depression, the people you care about (and say they care about you) should always be by your side. They should listen to you and care. People who invalidate or belittle your feelings or people who make your problems about themselves are not people you should be around. People who try to diminish your problems by comparing them to other issues, saying "could be worse" or "not as bad as" are unjust. A problem is a problem and needs to be addressed. People who constantly call you whiny or childish, say you're being dramatic or attention-seeking are unsympathetic. And worst of all, people who twist your story to make it about themselves or cut you off to tell their own issue.

Now some people simply can't deal with the emotions of someone who does struggle with mental issues. And that is okay, do not fault them for getting frustrated and/or exhausted. But someone who cares about you shouldn't make you feel like a burden for how you feel. This isn't a relationship that should be forced unless necessary, i.e., being closely related or sharing a living space with said person. If someone can't or won't listen to your feelings or problems, don't try to make them. This is toxic and just makes both of you irritated and exhausted.

There's nothing wrong with crying. It is a natural human reaction and everybody does it. The brain is an organ and therefore mental pain is also physical. Suffering, "enduring" emotional pain and stress for long periods will take a toll on your body. Your body may become weaker, your brain may process slower, and you may even outright pass out. So don't let anyone tell you to just "get over it."
