Sawyer up top

Sawyer POV

"Sawyer!" Conrad yells bursting through my office door with his phone in his hand and tears falling from his eyes and his eyes red and puffy. Startled at his appearance I shot out of my chair and ran over to him to hug him to my chest to calm him down.

"What is it? Is Ben alright?!" I asked worried for my best friend and Alpha. Conrad nodded his head and I sighed in relief

"So, what's wrong? What has you so upset?" I asked and he took a seat on the couch in my office and I got him a glass of water.

Ben is overseas right now, so Conrad has been really emotional being away from his mate and having twins, it takes a lot out of him so seeing him like this, it's not unusual.

"Well Ben he called and told me some heartbreaking news. Do you remember when we went to his friend Jake's pack a few months ago when he and Colson were home for R&R?" He asked and I nodded, thinking about how I was put in charge like now with Ben being away.

"Yea I remember. Conrad, what is going on? I'm getting really worried here."

"Well Jake's mate is Colson as we all know. Well he passed away. Someone triggered an IED while he and Ben were going on patrol and he was rushed to get taken care of and he was still alive till a couple days ago. Ben called and told me the news. Jake and his dad, Danny are there. They thought having Jake around would help Colson, but they did tell him he may not make it because he was so bad off Sawyer, Ben said he didn't even recognize Colson. Poor Jake, I can't imagine what he is going through. Colson didn't even tell him he was carrying their pup; the poor little pup is also fighting for his life and now Jake's mate is gone. I want to make a trip to their pack, be there for them to help in any way we can. It's going to be hard on Jake when he returns so I want to lend a hand in helping. You stay here through; I'll take Ben's brothers and I'll take Lucas with us also. I'm sure his family is beside themselves." Conrad said and was still releasing tears as he spoke. I didn't know what to say or think, I have heard a lot about Jake. Ben looks up to him and over the past few months, him Conrad Colson and Jake all gotten really close so it's understandable that Conrad is feeling the loss of Colson as hard as he is. I haven't met Jake or any of his family. I just know of him from Conrad and Ben and the twins. I have seen pictures of him and his family when they went to their pack, so I know what he looks like but haven't met him, yet. I will eventually I'm sure with him coming home and Conrad being there.

"Is Ben returning as well?" I asked after processing the information I was just told.

"Yes, he is going to be at their pack with Jake the pup and Colson in a couple days. They are trying to get the pup stable enough to move. They don't want to move him but Jake well he put the fear of himself into them and well they will be coming home. He doesn't want to be there any longer. They still don't know who triggered the bomb, Danny and Ben tried finding a scent but couldn't find any, so they are at a loss, but they also don't want to stay. I can't get Jake's cries out of my head. Ben called when they pronounced Colson, he used Danny's phone and all you could hear was Jake. It was so heart breaking to listen to him sob and wail like he did. I only hope whoever did this to him, dies a slow painful death. Son of a bitch killed an innocent man while deployed. They do know it wasn't an enemy, they were in their camp still and with the tracking no scents, they know it's another wolf because they can find human's scents easily, we know that so it was a werewolf and there are a lot over there with them so it was one of them, they just don't know who."

"I'm sure when they do find who did it, Jake will take care of them. He's a powerful Alpha and his mate is gone now and a newborn pup fighting, yea he's going to tear whoever it is apart. If it were us, we would do the same." I haven't had the pleasure of meeting my mate. I'm twenty-three and mate less. I know my mate is out there, I can feel it I just haven't met them.

"Yes, he will. I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of his wrath. He isn't even a full Alpha yet; he isn't in charge of the pack so his uncle hasn't given him the power and title yet so can you imagine how powerful he will be when that happens? When we visited, I without realizing it submitted to him when he yelled at one of his pack members in his Alpha tone, and it wasn't even that powerful. Everyone besides Ben his dad and the Alpha's of the pack submitted to him, it was crazy. I never seen that before. Not like that, he barley raised his voice but the tone and power behind it, it was insane. It wasn't even anything that was major, just told the guy to watch where he was throwing the football because there were little pups running around playing and it came close to them. Jake saw it and well told the guy to watch where you are throwing that ball, that's it just seven words and I don't think he even meant to use that tone, it just happened. Once he realized it, he has to calm his wolf down before anyone can move. He apologized over and over again, but they just blew it off and went about the day. I'm rambling, sorry Sawyer. I should go and plan the trip, be sure to call Ben, he could really use your support and kind words you usually give." He said and smiled a sad smile and sniffed. I wrapped my arms around his shoulders, and he wrapped his around my torso and hugged me tightly and I him.

"I will, be safe on your way there and let me know when you arrive, alright?" I asked and he nodded.

"Yea I will. See you whenever we return. I will keep you updated as we are there though. Keep everyone safe and don't burn the house down." He joked and giggled as he let me go.

"I promise." With that he left my office and I sighed. I sat down on the couch and grabbed my phone and made the call to Ben.

"Hey Sawyer, I'm guessing you heard?" Ben asked when he answered.

"Yea, Conrad was just in my office and told me. He also is planning on going to their pack to be there when you guys get there, to lend a hand in helping. I'm so sorry for your loss Ben, I know how much Colson meant to you. Is there anything I can do for you or for Jake's family?" I asked feeling my heart break at the sobs in the background, knowing it's Jake.

"Thank you, Sawyer, and at the moment, take care of the pack for us. As you can imagine things here aren't that great. Jake is losing it. He shifts and runs, destroys things and comes back shifts and just breaks down, holding Colson and not letting anyone near him or his pup. He hasn't stopped crying since Colson died. He hasn't slept or ate, he just shifts and cries, holds Colson and won't leave the tent when he comes back from a short run. I'm at a loss because I have no idea how to help him." Ben said sounding so broken.

"All you can do for him is be there Ben, be a shoulder for him to lean on. Offer support even if he doesn't want it, offer it always. He lost part of his soul; he lost a part of him so it's going to take a while before he can heal. Just be there, that's all he needs. He needs support from family and friends. I know it's going to be hard, but he needs it. We know what mates go through when they lose their mate, we have seen it many times so you know what he will face. Just be there Ben, he will appreciate it, trust me."

"Thanks, that's sweet to say Sawyer. I hope you find your mate because you will make someone very happy one day."

"I hope so to, I just hope he is a good man."

"Your mate is I'm sure because you are a good man with the purest heart Sawyer, the goddess wouldn't pair you with an ass. I hate to cut this short, but Jake almost attacked a doctor so I'm gonna get off here and handle this, his dad is even having a hard time so I'm all he has to help so I'll talk to you later." He said and hung up the phone. Poor Jake, I hope he makes it through this and finds his way back with the help of his loved ones.
