The whole room went quiet.
No one dared to speak.
No one dared to move.
I was having a hard time breathing from the tension. Ahsoka was utterly shocked and froze on the bed, wide, blue eyes trying to comprehend the situation.
"Rey..." Ahsoka finally spoke, not know what else to say.
"Is mommy okay?" Rey asked.
"Rey, where did you get that blanket?" Ahsoka asked, sternly. The little girl did not answer or let go of my hand. I kept staring at the blanket and wondering how Rey knew this.
Her powers.
Anything she touches...that held a memory, she can see through a vision of some sort. My arm was being tugged and averted my eyes to the said girl who looked right back.
"Can you take me to mommy?" She asked. My mouth went dry as I slowly turned to see Ahsoka, who slowly nodded sadly. I could see the guilt in her eyes and the sorrow for Rey.
She did lie to her 'daughter,' about being her 'mother.'
Before I left, I looked at the others.
Sabine and Hera just watched without intruding into the conversation. And Zeb...he seemed paler than usual and wide eyes re-telling a story, trying to figure something.
I'll have to talk to him later about it.
Rey and I began our journey to the medbay room with Tua. I opened the door a little and peeked inside to see Cornelius getting a syringe ready. He looked over at me with a smile.
"My favorite shorty and I see you brought a friend. Welcome," he laughed, cheerfully, as if it were a grand time.
Rey stayed quiet and carefully watched Tua slowly becoming more and more of an Infected. We walked in more and Rey let go of my hand and stood next to her...mother? I still wasn't quite sure if the girl was serious or not. She is like...five? Six-years old?
"Hey, Cornelius. What's the power of touching something and getting a memory from it?" I asked.
"Psychometry: ability to make relevant associations from an object of unknown history by making physical contact with that object," Cornelius answered, filling the syringe with a green liquid.
Psychometry? What's with all these long and complicated words? Can't they have a simpler words for powers?
"I never asked but, what's your power?" I asked.
"Omnilingualism: instantly learn, speak and understand any language fluently," he answered, again. Was that how he could read the walls of the catacombs so easily. Sabine even had a hard time reading the legend.
Cornelius brushed passed me in a sweep and injected the Infected in the neck. The Infected squirmed a little before returning to a deep slumber.
"You're turn," he said in a sing-song voice. He looked so exited like some fangirl who got an autograph from her favorite musician. Rey stood off to the side blank as usual. She was not scared of the deadly creature that could leap any moment and attack.
Brave or child stupidity? Both? Possibly, curiosity?
I reached my hand out and rested it on the scratch mark. Focusing, power began to charge through my veins and release through the palm of my hand. A light shone through my eyelids like usual. Mends in my mind were stitched together and scars permanently stayed like a tattoo.
Then, I stopped. My eyes fluttered open to reveal the scratches as just scars on her leg. They were healed as much as possible.
She'll be okay.
A satisfied smirk engraved itself on my lips.
"It's going to take sometime for her to heal but it's safe to say that she will be okay," Cornelius said. Rey smiled a little and turned back to look at Tua. The door opened and in walked Ahsoka, Hera, Chopper, and Sabine.
"How is she?" Ahsoka asked.
"She'll be A okay," Cornelius spoke. They began to talk and I noticed Rey's smile disappeared. Was it because Ahsoka was in the room? Was Rey still mad at her? I guess I would be mad if my parents lied to me about who they were.
And they did. It took me awhile to get over it but there is still a little bit of me that can't help the slight frustration.
I bent down next to her and said, "I know how it feels to be left in the dark by adults. Doesn't feel to good, does it."
She shook her head 'no' and looked at me with a frown.
"Who lies to you?" She asked.
"My parents and friends but they did it to protect us from being scared. They only hide things because they know it will hurt us. I'm sure Ahsoka didn't mean to hurt you. She just wanted to make you...happy," I said, realizing something for the first time. Now I understood, that didn't lessen the pain but brought a bit more peace to my mind.
Rey seemed like she understood. She was very smart and capable to understand things easily. Mature, brave, and wise for her age.
"I understand," she spoke, a small smile gracing her face before turning and running over to Ahsoka to then hugged her legs. The woman was surprised by the sudden hug then fondly smiled down at the girl, brushing away some stray hairs.
I couldn't help but smile either before frowning again.
Kanan was still missing. Yet...maybe it wasn't entirely my fault. Maybe, he did it because he cares and protects his friends. His family. He would risk anything to protect the ones he loves.
I stood back up onto my feet with determination forming the smile on my face.
That's why I will do the same thing.
Tonight, I will sneak out into the dark and find my friend. I will find Kanan.
"Eureka! She is healing, nicely if I do say so myself!" Cornelius cheers. I snapped my eyes over at Tua to see more of her face.
Things couldn't have gotten better.
And they didn't, they got a whole lot worse when Hera said, "We need to keep, Ezra out of any harms way."
Which meant...
"I'm locked in here," I muttered under my breath.
Then said, loud enough for them to hear me, "I want to go out and find Kanan."
Sabine face twisted into one that I couldn't read. Hera was a different story though. She was full out shocked.
"Ezra, we need to keep you safe. There is no way we can let you leave this safe haven," she said.
"Why not? It's not like I haven't faced the forest already. Kanan needs our help so what's the plan to find him?" I asked. Hera bit her lip and Sabine shifted a little on the floor. Something was wrong.
"What?" I asked, "Tell me what's going on!"
Sabine looked me straight in the eye. A mixture of sadness and sternness mixed together as she said, "The Empire has him."
