Chapter 5
AN: I don't own either Arknights or Fate/Series
Inside a bar, Igraine was sitting on a stool enjoying a glass of lemonade that the bartender had made for her.
She was fully equipped with a full set of armour, which bore no markings or any sort of decoration and a helmet was resting on the table, while a longsword by her side, a longsword with a 14 cm long blade with a 30cm grip sat on her hip.
The sword was neither of the swords she carried in her prior life but it did get the job done as a tournament sword.
Though speaking of Excalibur and Caliburn.
She always recalled the time when she first saw Kyngasycath , and oddly enough the nature of the sword felt quite close to Caliburn, though she doubted that the blade was a last phantasm, the fact that it protects Londinium from catastrophes does make her think that the sword's nature might be similar if the tales of her "new" father telling her that the sword was made by the fairies of Sargon's grassland was true, which by her experience in most likeliness it was.
And she wondered about the situation back in Londinium.
Gawain had sent her a message 10 years ago, informing her of the coup's aftermath and the Tower Knights last stand against the parliamentary forces.
Her brother's execution in his palace's backyard.
And Gawain taking her Niece somewhere safe.
Could she have done anything to stop it?
Maybe she could or maybe she couldn't, she didn't have Excalibur to put down the coup, and the Knights were too far off into the borderlands to act as a meaningful deterrent to the coup, something which the parliamentary forces took advantage of.
All she could hope was for Gawain to raise Alexandrina to be a proper ruler for Victoria.
And that the grand dukes to not tear into each other's throats to increase their political power over Victoria.
Besides King Arthur died in Camlann, and she wasn't Victoria's destined Saviour that was her niece's fate.
Now she's Igraine and like Emperor Diocletian from her past life, she will retire from politics and enjoy the fruits of this new life.
As for where she was?
Well, at first she worked as an armed bodyguard to protect and escort folks who needed protection here and there, mostly people were threatened by criminal groups and racketeers.
She recalls the time during her stay in Siracusa when she got into trouble with some of the local mafia members who were running racketeering operations to extort people for "protection".
And if her memory was correct the man's name was Sandro Pietrangeli.
The local Familgia didn't like it but didn't do much about it since racketeering wasn't all that high on their list of priorities and they could always go and be a bother elsewhere, After that it led her to join Sandro and his family for dinner that day.
She often wondered how Sando had been doing and maybe considered visiting Siracusa again when she had the time.
Anyhow.
She was in Kazimierz now.
For a decent chunk of 7 years
A nation of Lush grasslands and forests, Knighthood and nobility, and a people that are willing to fight for the ideals that made their nation.
But it was also a nation of corruption, a divided people, forgotten protectors, ideals burned by the desperate, and Chattel Slavery.
However, she shouldn't be surprised about the latter as chattel slavery was still around her time, though it was in decline when she got the throne thanks to the effort of the Catholic church did began to decline after the Western Half of Rome fell.
The Chattel Slavery aside, this was the place that Artoria had settled for a good part of 10 years, and oddly enough it didn't feel far off from Britain, with knights being held in prestigious positions.
Well...
If it were at the start of the country's history that is.
Her first encounter when she came to the country was with a Knight Errant of one of the Noble Knight families and a wandering mercenary.
Młynar Nearl and Toland Cash.
She could recall the adventures the three had gotten themselves involved in for the first three years she's been in Kazimierz.
Ranging from breaking up brigand bands that roamed the highways, the odd duel that they were challenged, as well as going to remote areas of Kazimierz neglected by the government, where the border towns were extorted by bandit bands.
Currently?
Młynar forsook his ideals of Chivalry and knighthood to take care of his nieces and Zofia, seemingly giving up on searching for his brother and sister-in-law while he took a corporate job that seemed to be sucking away at his soul.
And overall having the look of a miserable person.
While Toland, probably running a bounty hunter guild.
As for her.
She had been running a solo delivery service in Kazimierz while participating in the Kazimierz Knights Majors of 1082 and 1085, where she forfeited most of the semi-finals she participated.
Funnily enough, she was confronted by a corporate worker with a decent offer if she managed to beat Degenbrecher because of her two consecutive victories.
With the prize being a hefty size of money that'd settle her for a decade.
As well as acceptance into one of the bigger Knightclubs of her choosing, with the benefits that followed.
But she declined the offer and told the K.G.C.C. official, stating that she wasn't really interested in anything they offered and that she decided to fight against Degenbrecher this year because she felt like she was ready to face her.
"You seem to be enjoying yourself." Came a male voice from behind her.
"Oh, Młynar? What brings you here?" Igraine asked Młynar, with a surprised tone at the man's visit.
Młynar was around her age, about 33 years old, he had blond hair that stayed around his neck, gold-coloured eyes, and he had a well-defined build from years of regular exercise and sword practices, even though he had left the life of a knight, he still practised the sword just to be sure that he wasn't caught by surprise.
Much like any Kuranta, his equine ears sat on top of his head, and a thick horse tail came out of his lower back.
He wore a blue dress shirt and a black tie on top of which was an equally dark blue vest, dark blue dress pants and shoes and on his arms he held a dark blue long coat.
"Nothing more other than making a short visit. My nieces went to watch the match and Zofia is with them, they have been bugging me to come and see the match with them, so I decided to visit you before your match started." Młynar told her, though she could tell that the man had a half smirk on his face, let it be known that underneath that stern exterior Młynar Nearl would always watch the back of his nieces.
"So... are you coming then?" Igraine asked.
"No, I have other matters to attend to other than watching the Knights Majors." Młynar told Igraine, who quickly took it as Młynar filing documents for the company he works at.
"And they would never miss their honorary aunt's first final match for anything now would they?" Młynar asked.
"What can I give you Młynar?" The barkeep asked as Młynar sat on the chair next to her.
"Hm... A vodka would do well enough, the people in the company have been a headache and the head of the department has been choking us to death." Młynar told the barkeep.
"Very well Młynar, a cup of Vodka coming right up!" The Barkeep said as he went to pick up the Pegasii's order
"So... What do you want to talk about before the match?" Igraine asked Młynar.
"Nothing much really. Just out of curiosity, how've you been?" Młynar asked Igraine.
"Honestly... I think just want to go to the field and just fight anyone in my sights to get something off my chest." Igraine told Młynar, and the barkeep brought Młynar's shot of vodka.
"Let me guess, something having to do with the coup in Londinium 10 years ago?" Młynar quietly asked her not to raise any heads for her identity as the Princess Regent of Victoria.
"Aye, and I've been wondering if I could have done anything to change that and stop the coup from happening. Maybe send Londinium's guards and arrest the instigators, Or perhaps remain in Londinium and call the Steam Knights to crush the Coup." Igraine responded with a sombre tone, a feeling of impotence and regret for not being next to her brother when the coup happened.
It was a strange feeling because, in her past life, her older sister tried to kill her and usurp her, though that made her wonder what caused Morgan to hate her that much.
But if she were to hedge a guess, probably because Uther married Morgan off to Lot out of fear of her power mixed with the political intent to get Lot to back off, and along the way, Morgan made Lot her puppet.
And compared to Morgan, Richard was a stern man with a heart of gold that loved her, his sister, as much as he loved his daughter and his late wife, and had a clear-cut picture of what he wanted his legacy to be.
He wanted to be the King who revitalized Victoria's power and not leave it as a dying empire to be eaten out by the vultures.
Then she felt Młynar's hand on her shoulder.
"I don't know what to truly say Igraine. All I can say is that what is done is done, and we have to focus on what we want to do next with our lives. Your niece is still alive, yes?" Młynar tried to comfort her and proceeded to ask.
"As I said before my niece was taken out of the palace before the coup's forces could find her." Igraine responded.
"Then, I would suggest going and searching for her while you've got the time." Młynar told Igraine who did consider the thought, but... She also didn't like the idea since she'd be quickly recognized.
"What about you, O' Tenebrous Knight? Are you going to restart your search for Schnitz and Yolanta?" Igraine asked Młynar while referring to the old knightly title people had given him.
And he responded with a huff.
"I have said it once Igraine, Their trail has gone cold for a while now, they have entrusted the care of their daughters and our Ill father to me. Until any new hint of their location crops up I won't do anything." Młynar told Igraine in a dour tone, as he drank the Vodka from the glass.
And it wasn't the first time they had such a conversation ever since Schnitz and Yolanta disappeared, especially after the first few days when he began searching for them which turned to months, then years, until he seemingly gave up and went to take care of Zofia, Margaret and Maria.
And Młynar seemed to be even more dour than the last time she recalled.
"Anyhow, what do you plan on doing after the Knights major?" Młynar asked out of curiosity.
"I don't know. I might go out and start travelling again maybe visit Kazdel while I'm at it, heard that the new Sarkaz King is doing something about the chaos and uniting the squabbling nobility. And maybe pass by Yan, I've been wanting to try out one of their mountain resorts." Igraine commented.
"Please don't tell me you are gonna get yourself involved in that nightmare?" Młynar asked Igraine.
"Don't worry, I'm not gonna get involved in Kazdel's politics, it's unhealthy for my appetite. So you planning on coming over to watch the match?" Igraine joked and proceeded to ask Młynar whether or not he wanted to come and watch the match with Zofia, Margaret and Maria.
"No amount of asking will convince me to come and watch the Majors, I have to fill up some files for the company and it will take me all night, that and you know how little interest I have in the Knights Majors." Młynar told Igraine.
"Alright Młynar, see you around then." Igraine said as she finished her drink, paid the bar tab, and walked out to see her bike.
The bike was a typical high-performance sports motorcycle, with curved shapes and a somewhat beefy chassis.
Truth be told she missed having a steed to ride onto the sunset, but...
A motorcycle did have its appeal, as the first thing she learned in this new life was that she was a speed freak.
And what better thing that goes fast than a motorcycle?
With no further time wasted Igraine got onto her motorcycle, turned it on, put her glasses on, and revved up her bike's engine with the rear tire rubbing on the ground she let go of the brakes and bolted with a wheelie and an excited scream.
Though she made sure she wasn't being reckless like Irisviel.
Arena
Back quarters
10:32 PM
Degenbrecher was sitting on a bench in the back quarters, she was wearing her usual gear which was a set of full plate armour coloured black and a helmet resting at her side, and a barbute helmet that covered much of her face with a T-shaped Visor.
Next to her was her signature Sword Breaker daggers and the complimentary Longsword.
But for now, she was contemplating on her final opponent, the Lion Knight.
She's had a few encounters with her, though she couldn't take a look at her face because her aventail helmet obscured her facial appearance and she could only see those amber-coloured eyes.
And a title like that made Degenbrecher think that she was an Aslan that left Victoria following the coup, or one that came down from Sargon.
As if the tail and that wild mane of hair weren't enough of an indicator of her race.
Those aside, she also began to recall the footage of the Lion Knight's fights in the previous knights majors the years prior.
Some stances she took left her wide open but were great for counterattacks if she dodged at the right time.
Others were general stances any sword practitioner used.
Often times she rushed her foes to end the battle in a single strike.
Just like the previous fights, she's seen of her.
However, she wondered why the Lion Knight always forfeited the semi-final match, as no reasonable knight would even dare to throw down a fight to the finals and would fight tooth and nail to get to the top of the Majors.
Was it because she didn't see the worth in winning the Majors?
Was it because she had no incentive besides the thrill of the fight?
Or maybe, she simply saw it as a friendly match that wasn't really worth being animous towards the competition.
"Well, this is gonna be fun." Degenbrecher muttered as she went up put on her helm, and walked out of the quarters.
And she would make sure this would be her 3rd victory streak.
The streets of Kawalerielki were abuzz with light, as the tall towers shone brightly with lights lighting up the night sky, and on each of the tall buildings the fight between Igraine and the Black knight was plastered, with and armoured up Igraine holding her sword in both hands on a red background, and the black knight held both daggers as if leaping to thrust at her neck.
The same could be said about the streets as the traffic jam was large enough to cause people to get irritated because they didn't want to miss the season's knight's majors that seemed to have been hyped for 6 years now.
The Knight's Major Arena was a big thing, nearly two blocks in size, On the outside perimeter banners of sponsors and participating Knightclub were hung, and in the entrance, the banners showing Igraine and the Black Knight stood side by side at the entrance into the arena.
As well as a testament to its size the Arena could also hold up to 10,000 people inside including amenities.
In the centre, the arena could be changed to a varying number of biomes, ranging from sandy outbacks, lush green plains, and a plain field for one-on-one fights, like today's fight.
And our focus shifts to a trio of a particular knightly family.
"You think she's gonna arrive on time in time?" A 13 year old Maria asked as she was sitting in a front-row seat with her older sister and their Aunt.
Maria Nearl had blond hair tied in a black bow, gold-coloured eyes, and her equine ears were on top of her head with a thick yellow tail coming from her lower back.
She was dressed in a short white dress with black lining, black leggings and short-heeled shoes.
"Who? Aunt Zofia or Aunt Igraine?" a 17-year-old Margaret asked as she was leaning closer.
Margaret much like her younger sister, uncle, aunt and any Pegasii had blond hair gold eyes, a pair of equine ears on top, and a large horsetail coming out from her lower back which were common in Kurantas and their subraces.
For her part was wearing a pair of dark pants a white shirt and grey sneakers and held her blond hair in a ponytail while leaving a pair of bangs to frame her face.
"Both." Maria asked her older sister.
"Well... the match starts in 20 minutes, so I am guessing Aunt Artoria is either backstage getting prepared or she's stuck in traffic." Margaret told her sister.
"And 7 times out of 10 she probably is in a bar before the match." Maria muttered.
"Hey guys I brought snacks and drank, also I hope I didn't come late." Came Zofia's voice from the top, causing the sisters to look up and see her walking down the stairs with a tray of snacks and soft drinks.
"No aunt you came just in time for the match. And it has yet to start." Margaret told her aunt.
And to any bystanders that heard them couldn't help but find it strange to hear a girl calling someone who was around the same age as her aunt, even though she was probably a year or two older than her, just enough to pass as their older sister.
"Let's hope she gets here on time." Said Zofia as she sat down in between Margaret and Maria while the two grabbed their snacks.
Igraine had managed to arrive in the Kawalerielki's Knights Majors arena in time, and thankfully she did before the traffic picked up.
Now she was wearing her uniform, which consisted of a chain-mail underneath a gambeson and cuirass, an aventail helmet which covered her face, greaves on her legs, and a pair of vambraces.
While on the bench was a wooden rounded shield, something which she had decided to use considering who her foe for this match was, the shield would come in handy to latch to her sword breaker daggers.
But there was something funny that she had observed about the Knights Major.
To her, it was just another rendition of the Holy Grail war, though instead of an all-powerful wish-granting cup, instead, it was accolades and recognition, something of which many would do anything to get to the top.
" The Final match of the Knights Majors starts in 4 minutes, all competitors make your way to the arena ." Came the announcement.
"Alright let's get to it." Artoria said to herself as she grabbed her shield and placed the longsword on her hilt.
Then proceeded to walk towards the arena where the foe was waiting for her.
But before she could leave she crashed into a young Elafia, with blond hair and blue, wearing black pants, white sneakers, and a hoodie where a pair of buck horns protruded from her head, and the girls seemed to be about the same age as Margaret.
"I'm sorry miss, I got lost as I was looking for a way to the spectator's booth." The girl told Igraine.
"Don't worry about it. If you want to get to the spectator's booth, go back to where you were and follow the crowd, From there take to the right, and you will find a pair of stairs going up." Igraine told the girl.
"Thank you ma'am. Also... wouldn't you happen to be the Lion knight?" The girl asked her.
"As if my racial traits weren't that obvious." Igraine stated in a joking manner.
"I just want to say that I am a fan of yours and can I have your autograph?" The girl asked as she handed out a notebook she'd been carrying.
"Sure I can do that. What's your name?" Igraine asked.
"It's Viviane Droste ma'am." The Elafian girl told Igraine, who simply chuckled.
"Alright. To Viviane." Igraine said as she gave the girl her Autograph.
"Thank you miss." Viviane said as she ran away and followed Igraine's directions.
"Man, talk about coincidences." Igraine muttered as she walked to the arena.
On the Arena.
The arena was vast with patches of greenery with a patch of sand in the middle for effect.
"Ladies and gentlemen! Welcome all to the 21st Kazimierz Knights Major! On the left corner we have the twice consecutive winner of the 19th and 20th Kazimierz Knights Major the vanquisher of the Diamon Knight and Azure knight, the Capriane from Leithanien, Give it up for Degenbrecher the Black Knight." The announcer shouted as the spotlight shone on the entrance where Degenbrecher walked out.
And her fans screamed and cheered their chosen knight on.
"On the left corner, we have an Aslan of unknown Origin her identity has been left unknown since the 18th Knights' Major, she has forfeited most of the Semi-Final matches for three consecutive Grand Knights Majors, and is only now battling in the finals after vanquishing the Scarlet Dragoon! Give it up for the Lion Knight!" The announcer exclaimed and Igraine walked out to the stage the light shining up on her.
The cheering voices weren't as loud as compared to Degenbrecher but she did have something of a niche following.
Now that she was facing her foe Igraine could tell that this wasn't gonna be a cakewalk.
She didn't have either Excalibur or Caliburn to end it all in a single move, she didn't have Avalon to help her recover from any form of wounds be they physical or magical, no Rhongomyniad to tear down walls of fortresses, or her dragon core to recover after every use of Excalibur.
Just her wits, skills and the tools in her hand facing a more superior opponent.
At least she tried to use her wits, but some of the knights just got on her nerves, and they looked very punchable.
These were the thoughts that she always kept repeating to herself ever since she began training in Victoria when she was 14.
" Remember Igraine, there are enemies stronger than you in the world. From Ursus Royal guards and their Wendigo Vanguards in the North to the Inquisitors of Iberia and the martial masters of Yan, this will be my first lesson to you. " She recalled Sir Alfonse's words when they started out her training, and it seemed that the average people of Terra were considerably stronger than the average of her previous homeland without any form of blessing or magecraft, and that's not to add to their mastery of Arts, which at first observation seems to be on par with magecraft.
Not that she had the talent for it, she recalled her first time doing arts training and it blew right in her face, and her second try, and about 5 more times before her father decided to stop Arts teaching before she lost a limb
So before the match started Igraine walked up to Degenbrecher and extended her hand as a show of respect.
"May the best fighter win." Said Igrain, which seemed to have gotten Degenbrecher by surprise as her prior opponents weren't that willing to extend a hand.
"Maybe the best of us win." Degen said as she accepted Igraine's hand, with a smile on her face seemeingly happy for once that her opponent wasn't some overachieving Knightclub knight.
"Well Maja, it seems that the Black Knight and the Lion Knight have each other's respect." One of the announcers said.
"I'd agree with you Stanisław, but whether that respect can stick remains to be seen, let's hope she isn't a sore loser like the Black Knight's prior opponents." The female announcer responded to her coworker's jab with her own Jab.
And it was quite quick for Igraine to recall her fight with Lancelot in her old life, and how she ended up breaking Caliburn in two.
And with no further words spent the two went at each other.
Degenbrecher pulled out her longsword to slash at Igraine who in turn brought up her shield to catch the sword into it then she pushed and rolled and twisted her shield hard enough to get the sword out of Degenbrecher's hands, and followed it by a thrust which Degenbrecher leapt away.
"That was fast. Let's see if you can keep up." Degenbrecher said as she pulled out her daggers and dashed to Igraine, who in turn brought up her shield again, but as she closed her distance Degenbrecher leapt high into the air followed by a somersault, and a kick which Igraine tried to stop with her shield, but it Degen's kick was strong enough to break the wooden shield in half.
"Well, there goes the shield." Igraine muttered as she discarded the shield's piece and grabbed her longsword in both hands.
And Degen charged again at Igraine, who managed to dodge a thrust from Degen's daggers and followed it by a slash that caused one of the dagger's serration to catch to the aventail helmet chain mail, which Degen pulled away, removing the helmet revealing Igraine's face.
"So my foe was the Princess in exile of Victoria?" Degen asked with a humorous tone.
"Does that change anything on the field of Battle?" Igraine asked Degen.
"I suppose not." Degen said as they continued their battle while their spectators watched.
They charged at each other again, this time they locked their blades, Degenbrecher tried to use her daggers to get the sword out of Igraine's hands but the latter stood firm as she grabbed the blade with her hand, and thrust the sword upwards, breaking Degen's hold, and grabbed it by the blade and tried to use it as a hammer by striking Degen with the pommel.
The latter was fast enough to dodge it and charged at her again, and Igraine again used her sword as a shield but Degen countered it by parrying to the left, giving her an opening and followed with an elbow strike to Igraine's face, causing the Aslan to lose her footing and Dgen got on top of her and placed the dagger on her throat, while kicking her sword away..
"Do you yield?" Degen asked Igraine who seemed to be weighing her options, but she didn't give up just yet as she pushed the dagger aside and used her strength and Degen's momentary stop to roll on top of her, making the duel devolve into a brawl she punched Degen with all her might causing her helmet to cave in due to the punch.
Degen grabbed the next punch and followed it with a punch of her own square in Igraine's face dazing the woman for a moment and the Caprinae charged at her sending the Aslan into the air.
As she tried to get up Degenbrecher didn't let up as she charged again at the Princess in exile, striking Igraine with a knee to her face and breaking her nose, and the Black Knight grabbed the longsword that was lying a few feet away and brought against her neck.
"Alright, now do you give up your majesty?" Degenbrecher asked taking a few huffs of breath as she removed her dented helmet revealing her slightly bruised face.
"You ought to know something Degenbrecher. A proper knight fights until his body is nothing but a broken mess." Igraine said as she threw some dirt on the Caprinae's face slammed her to the ground, and ran to pick up Degenbrecher's discarded longsword.
As the Caprinae got her bearings she was met with a charging Igraine with her sword in her hands, and with little time to act as fast as she could manage to dodge an upward slash which Igraine followed with a downward slash where Degenbrecher brought up her daggers and caught the sword on its serrations and began to pull.
And she had enough force to tear the sword in two, leaving Igraine with just a lump of a sword.
However, being one not to waste things, Igraine threw the remains of the sword at the Capriane, which she parried and Igraine used it to charge at her, catching Degenbrecher by the waist, and throwing her over her shoulders.
However, Degenbrecher being the athletic sort managed to quickly land on her feet, and swiftly dash at Igraine, who got to a boxing stance and managed to parry the blade with her hand and follow it with a punch to Degenbrecher's face, though the Caprinae was fast enough to evade it, falling short of her horn, and she followed it, a slash across Igraine's cheek which caused it to bleed.
But Igraine wasn't about to back down now as she followed with a charge and was ready to punch Degenbrecher, who managed to dodge again and followed with a slash but Igraine caught it with her hand, and pulled Degenbrecher by the arm and slammed her to the ground and got on top of her punching her several times until the rhythm was stopped by Degenbrecher, as she gouged her eye, and Igraine barred teeth and Degenbrecher took the chance to change positions this time her holding the lioness on a chokehold.
"Are you ready to surrender yet?" Degenbrecher asked, though there was no taunting in her tone.
But was met with resistance by Igraine who resisted until she saw her vision becoming blurrier and blurrier, until she gave in and tapped the arm.
And Degenbrecher released her from her chokehold, with Igraine taking deep breaths and coughing it up.
"Well, Stanisław it seems that there's another victory for the Black Knight." Maja told her co-worker.
"True Maja, and here we thought that the Lion Knight would have been victorious against the Black Knights but it seems it didn't go anywhere. I will have to say, and the fight was almost close with how Lady Igraine was punching Degenbrecher into submission." Stanisław responded.
"And to think that the Princess-in-exile was right under our noses and here in Kawalerielki." Maja added to his commentary.
Victoria
Londinium
"Whelp that went well." Margaret commented.
"Aye." Adrian responded in agreement.
"And it went better than the Azure knight match three years ago, at least she seems to have taken it like a sport." Jasper commented as he took a gulp out of his soda.
"Fuck that, are we all gonna ignore the fact that the Princess Regent, is alive and well? And in Kazimierz, come on! That ought to be the biggest thing ever, and the folks up high are gonna have a field day trying to coerce her." Adrian butted
Meanwhile, several people in that gathering had three different reactions.
Ch'en felt like she'd seen that woman before, though she was younger at the time, and they were at her mother's funeral.
Maeve looked at the TV with widened eyes as sweat began to form around her brow in a sense of impending doom, as the Lion Knights looked like, if a bit aged, father's doppelganger.
" Calm down Maeve, Father isn't here for you... " Maeve thought to herself as she took in a deep breath and let it out.
Vina was looking at the TV with a sense of relief that her Aunt was alive and kicking.
" She's alive, she's alive... Might go and call her later after this ." Vina thought to herself, thankful that the feeling of dread over her aunt's survival had finally lifted because she didn't have doubt about the forces of Coup sending assassins after, but... she also worried that maybe they'd recognize her, and not buy into her being from Sargon.
Perhaps Gawain knew and he decided not to tell her about it.
It really felt frustrating how that lion often kept her in the dark, maybe he thought that it wasn't worthwhile information and that she needed to trust in her aunt's ability to take care of herself.
And Rita didn't know how to react to it.
On one hand, the late king's sister was alive and well in a different country.
On the other, she was in a different country avoiding her duties as the Regent until Princess Alexandrina was found, it made her feel angry at her and wonder why she just wound up and left leaving her family and duties behind.
"So, Vina? Where do you live?" Jasper asked Vina.
"Pardon?" Vina asked Jasper.
"He asked where you live, he's planning on escorting you there." Adrian told her, though there was a teasing undertone.
"Adrian don't make me cudgel you to submission." Jasper quickly warned Adrian which he backed off
"Oh, uh, I live in Glasgow borough King Henry's street." Vina told Jasper who nodded.
"In that case, I can call a taxi and take you there." Jasper told her.
"Thanks, I guess?" Vina responded.
"You really work fast Don't you Jasper?" Maeve joked.
"Oh shut you bloody Lung, and I am not trying to woo anyone." Jasper replied.
"Speaking of wooing, I recall the first few weeks where Maeve tried to flirt with Rita here, and she nearly fell for her." Adrian jokingly said as he began to recall their first day, when they watched Maeve flirting with Rita and ended n her getting a bookcase to her face.
And Adrian got splashed with whatever beverage Rita was drinking as she blushed in embarrassment.
"Will you shut up about it Adrian." Rita ordered him.
"Of course your majesty." Adrian said.
An Hour Later
Glasgow Borough
"Alright, we're here, 12 pounds and 20 pence." The Taxi driver said and Jasper gave the amount.
"Pleasure doing business with you." The driver said as Vina and Jasper walked out of the Taxi Cab.
And walked to Vina's apartment.
A few minutes after going up the stairs, he saw that it was a bit of a cramped thing, with a simple kitchenette with a bed, and a bathroom, with grey walls and paint that seemed to be ripping apart.
"Vina, I know that you are Princess Alexandrina." Jasper said, causing Vina to freeze.
"What makes you say that?" Vina asked him.
"For one, your reaction. And two seeing how you reacted when you saw the Lion knight, who I'd assume you believe to be your aunt." Jasper told Vina who got ready for a fight as she grabbed a frying pan that was on the kitchenette.
"My Lady, I am not here to fight you. I am as Servant of Victoria and its rightful Monarchs as much as my brother, all I want is to be of assistance should you require it." Jasper told her.
"And why should I trust you?" Vina asked him.
"My brother is one a Steam Knight patrolling the borders of the realm. He used to be your Aunt's bodyguard, Charles Lynch. And I recall him receiving some letters from Lady Igraine a couple of weeks after she left Victoria together, In one of them it was stated that she trusted your safety to his hands, but seeing that his duty has him to roam the realm's borderlands, he entrusted the job to me. So Your Majesty use me as you wish." Jasper told her.
"Alright, but... I don't have anything to formalize the agreement Vina told him." Vina replied.
"It matters little, Here's a letter with my phone number should you need it, I will have my most trusted associates of mine to help you out, as currently, I have a military academy to attend." Jasper told her as he extended a letter with his phone number on it.
"Alright, I will keep this in mind." Vina said as she took the piece of paper, though she still felt a little sceptical about it.
"Anyhow, I bid you a good night your majesty." Jasper said with a nod and walked out of the apartment.
"Good god, what a night." Vina muttered to herself as she slumped on the bed and took some sleep, as a feeling of tiredness washed over her.
