Yeet, Another Pillar of Leadership
Out of Hartley's six pillars, I feel that leadership relates to me the most. This is because I frequently take the role of a leader in many situations.
Last year, my class of twenty-eight students elected me to be one of two class representatives for St. Mary's student council. I took charge in many of the projects that we had done. Such as, decorating St. Mary's gym for a police and firefighter lunch-in, guiding tours around the school, and organizing fundraisers for the school and the community.
For the 2018/2019 volleyball season, I was a junior assistant couch for the sixth and seventh grade team. I led the team during practices, drills, warm-ups, and games. I also did one on one coaching with the players to improve their overall volleyball skills.
Peers in my groups looked to me to take a leadership role during the middle school's Damascus retreat this year. In fear inducing situations, I assisted others in conquering their fears. Each group had to go onto the high ropes. Many people in my group were scared of heights and I helped them across. During one of the activities, my councilor took away my ability to lead because she wanted to give others a chance.
I also often take a leadership role in the classroom setting. I lead many group projects and presentations to help ensure other student's understanding and growth in knowledge.
I have enjoyed and grown from all of my past experiences and opportunities and look forward to many more chances to take a leadership role in my future four years at Bishop Hartley.
