Chapter 21: Vitam, Mortem, et Gentem

The sound of a flatlining heart monitor was echoing throughout the room and hallway. It brought tears to all in the room, and it brought Keeton and Tiffany to their knees. Haylee was gone, killed by the process of evolution. While Tiffany and Keeton were mourning her death harder than most of us, Raven felt the worst of all, having been technically responsible for her death. With her face in her hands, she ran out of the room crying, before giving a large gasp. She ran back into the room, clearly shocked by the sight of something.

The being that shocked her walked into the room, and we all came under the same shock. The Pokémon was around 10 feet tall, with a light blue body, light grey legs, and maroon horns with tips that could shine in multiple colors. I pulled out the Pokédex and scanned it. 'Xerneas: The Life Pokémon. It's said to be sharing eternal life when it's horns are glowing. It was disguised as a tree for 1000 years before it's arrival.'

"Xerneas? Why are you here?", Tiffany asked. "I have sensed that one's life was stripped from them before their time. Where is that Pokémon?" "Right here, sir.", Raven said, pointing to Haylee. "Ah, a death from evolution. This I can heal. Children, gather round Haylee." We did as he said. "Now, I need you to hold each other's hands and think of how much you want your friend back. Only then will we be able to return her to this world." We did as he said, except for Samantha.

"I would like to help, but I don't know her very well. I just wanted to support you guys." "Wait! Can't I be in it? Can't I save my daughter?", Tiffany asked. "No, Tiffany, only those around the same age as the deceased can bring them back." "Do it, it will work.", Keeton said. "Keeton, are you insane?", Emilee asked. "If it doesn't work, we can't bring her back!", Xerneas said. "I know it will, I know it in my heart." "Well then, children, focus on your feelings, and I will start the process."

We all started focus on our feelings for Haylee, and a power started circling throughout the room. While that was happening, I could hear the thoughts of everyone, from Raven saying "I'm sorry I caused this, so now I will help fix it.", to Emilee saying "I won't lose a friend like you anytime soon!" Most of all, I heard Keeton saying "Haylee, I know that your future will be bright, and even if I'm not the one you spend it with, I don't want you to not have one at all. Come back to us, Haylee. I love you." The power was now visible as an rainbow-colored orb, and after growing ever larger, it flew into Haylee. After a large flash of light, the heart monitor came back on, and Haylee's eyes fluttered open.

(Haylee's perspective)

I woke up on my back in a space of almost pure white. The last thing I remembered was Raven's Thunderstone shattering and causing me to evolve. I tried to get up, but as I was, I saw Arceus himself staring at me. I fell back and tried to move back, but couldn't. After gaining my bearings, I got up and looked him in the eyes. "Arceus. It really is you!" "Yes, my child. You have been brought here by the cruel machinations of fate."

"Wait, you mean I'm dead?" "Yes, but not for long, as I've ordered Xerneas to revive you. You were taken before your time, and I will not let that happen." "So, wait, what happened? How did I die?" "You were killed in the process of evolution, caused by your friend Raven throwing a Thunderstone at you." "Why did she do that? I thought she knew what would happen!" "Oh, but she did. She was not acting of her own volition, however. Your Shelgon friend may know more about that."

I started hearing voices, familiar voices, voices of my friends. "Arceus, can you hear that?" "Yes, my child, your friends are bringing you back. I can keep you here a little longer if you would like to hear what they are saying." "Yes, I would like that." I closed my eyes and focused on the thoughts of my friends. There were a few standouts, like a Raven saying that she was glad to make things right, and Emilee saying that she won't give up on me, but the main one that concerned me was Keeton. He said that he knew I was going to have a bright future, and that he wasn't going to let death keep me from it, even if it's not with him.

"Arceus, I have one more question before I go. Will I ever be married? And to whom?" "You will get married one day, and as for your future spouse, it's whoever you want it to be, but I think you know which way the universe is pointing." "Okay, thank you, Arceus." "You're welcome. Now, goodbye, Haylee." The area started to fade to black, so I just closed my eyes and waited for me to wake up. Sure enough, after Arceus' domain faded, I heard the sound of a heart monitor, the smell of a hospital room, and opened my eyes to see all of my friends, along with a Shiny Xerneas, waiting for me.

(Back to Kilian's perspective)

"Haylee? Is that you?", I asked. She smirked and said "Can a Rare Candy revive a fainted Pokémon?" We all started cheering, and Tiffany grabbed her and gave her a hug. "Now, my work here is done.", the Xerneas said. "Thank you, Xerneas. How can we ever repay you?", Keeton asked. "If you want to repay me, child, then stay true to yourself, and listen to your feelings. Goodbye.", the Xerneas said, as it faded away.

"That Xerneas was shiny, you know.", Haylee said. "That's not important right now.", Tiffany said. "What's important is that you're back!", Raven said. "Oh, and Haylee, you may want to see this.", Joey said, holding a mirror in one of his heads. He handed it to Haylee, so that she could see how she had changed. Her previously red cheeks were now a yellow color. Her tail had become thin and black, before ending in a tipless lightning bolt. She had gotten taller, her fur had become gold, her arms and toes had become black, her stomach area had become white, and her ears had changed shape. "I...I'm a Raichu. I'm a Raichu!" She started laughing, reveling in her new form, before almost falling on the floor. Luckily, Keeton caught her before she hurt herself, and Haylee gave a look that said 'all according to plan.'

"Going up, m'lady?", Keeton asked. "Yes, but not before this." Haylee grabbed Keeton and kissed him on the mouth. As she did, a strange power filled the room, a kind that, from the looks of it, Tiffany knew well. Emilee put her hand on me, and she showed me what Tiffany was thinking. Her thoughts were saying "I know that power. The power that Rick and I shared during our first kiss. So now, unless fate dictates otherwise, my daughter is going to marry a Gallade. What a strange thought."

The power dissipated as Haylee let go of Keeton, but we all knew what it meant. Haylee and Keeton were true lovers, and now, not even death could keep them apart. Keeton looked wonderstruck, like he would evolve if he could, his cheeks becoming redder than a Porygon, with same being able to be said for Haylee. They stared into each other's eyes, before Keeton brought Haylee back onto her feet. "There you go, m'lady." "Thank you, Keeton. Now, if you'll excuse me, I must ask something of Kilian." "Yes, Haylee?", I said. "I would like to speak to you in the hallway."

We walked out of the room and into the hallway. "So, what do you need from me?", I asked. "Kilian, I don't want you to tell this to anyone else, okay?" "My lips are sealed." "Okay, so I need to tell you...I met Arceus." "Wow. The Arceus?" "Yes, I did. I spoke with him for a bit, and he said that I needed to ask you about something. So Kilian, what was up with Raven when she threw that Thunderstone at me?" "Well, I could feel an evil presence within Raven, the kind that Gary always had about him."

"Wait, so she was possessed by Gary? How is that possible?" "I'm not sure myself, but what I do know is that she never meant to hurt you." "I know, Arceus told me as much, it's just, I never thought that Gary would have returned." "Didn't you already know that from Elijah?" "Yeah, but, now I know it's true.", Haylee said, clearly fearing for her future. "It's okay, Haylee. Gary won't come for another 6 months, and we'll be ready for him, now with a Raichu." "Thanks, Kilian, I can always count on you." She gave me a small hug, before we went back inside the room.
