Chapter 1: Biology Lesson
I could see Meteor Falls Junior High School coming into sight, it's brown bricks reflecting the pale ambient light of Meteor Falls, an icon of my daily life. I was flying to school on my mother's back, like always. "You ready for school today, honey," my mother asked. "Yeah, I'm ready. Another day, another round of teasing for being green," I told my Salamence mother.
"Kilian, you can't let them get to you. Sooner or later, they will be grateful for your existence, even if you're an outlier from the norm." "Hey, I didn't hear myself telling you to use Wish, mom." "Well, I don't always listen to everyone." We had touched down at this point, so I hopped off.
"Bye mom, see you tonight!" "Bye, I love you! Oh, and Kilian? The things that make us different also make us who we are. Even if you're not normal, you don't have to be like someone who is."
"Well, it would be easier if I didn't have a normal Bagon for a sibling. I love Obsi, but he always reminds me of what I'm not." My mother had a look of disapproval on her face. "Kilian, just remember that we're here for you. Me, Ted, Obsi, Carcha, and your friends. We don't care that you're different, we just care that you're you." My mother's words were beyond sappy, but they still made a smile cross my face. "Bye," we said to each other as I walked into the school.
I thought about what she said. "Yeah, Ted will be there for me. A Bagon take advice from a Garchomp. And hopefully, Carcha will be there to do anything but bite me. I know that she's a nice kid, but she's still a Gible." "So, who you talking to? The air around you," a voice said from above me. I recognized the teal Bug-Type that spoke to me. "So, Josh, how's it hanging? I'm glad you stuck around unlike Allie." "Oh, ha ha, Kilian. And, low blow, it's not her fault that her parents didn't want her in a place with a lot of Dragon-Types," my Pineco friend said as he dismounted from the ceiling. Allie was a Floette that we were good friends with, but who moved away last week. "Well, is everyone else here," I asked.
I felt the air behind me move quickly, and when I looked to my side, I saw another familiar face, a short, yellow and black one. "Well, now everyone's here," Josh said, looking at the Pichu to my side. "Hey guys, how's it going," the Pichu said in it's familiar voice. "Pretty good, Haylee. And you," I asked back. "I'm doing fine myself. Race you guys," she said, running down the hall as fast as her tiny Baby Pokémon legs could take her. "Hey get back here! You can't use your wits against us," Josh said, chasing after her. Haylee was only 10 years old, but was easily the smartest of my group of friends.
We chased her into the lunch room, where she set up an ambush. When we went in, we were tackled by our two remaining friends. "So, you thought that you had a right to reprimand this Pichu? For shame, Josh," said Joey, a Deino super nerd who tackled Josh. "Now now, Kilian, I don't think that I would want to be with someone who does that," my assaulter told me. My assaulter was Emilee Eevee, my girlfriend. "Hey, Emilee, you should face the truth. You can't stay mad at me," I said, shooting her a cheerful expression. My Charm worked, and Emilee relented. I took the moment to get Joey off of Josh with one of my famous Headbutts.
"Ow, Kilian, couldn't you hold back," Joey asked. "Hey, you hurt my family or you hurt my friends, and you'll feel the full fury of my wrath." "I'm your friend, you hypocrite!" "Yeah, and these Choice Specs are on your face," I said, quickly stealing Joey's Choice Specs. "Put them back, Kilian! I can't see through my thick hair without them!" I put them on my face. "Mew almighty, Joey, how bad are your eyes? I can't see a thing!" I put the glasses back on Joey's face. It was at this point that the Chimecho bell rang, I went to my first hour and least favorite class, Evolutionary Sciences, with Emilee and Joey.
Today, there was no lesson. Instead, we had a speaker, named Thalia Ninetails, who may have lost a bet and got dyed silver for it, come in and talk about how many of us would soon reach the point in our life where we would evolve for the first, second, or even third time. She passed out a guide of the possible evolutions for the members of the class, and even called a few members up to talk about their path. "Caden Poliwhirl," she called.
When Caden walked up front, she asked him, "So Caden, what type of Pokémon are your parents?" "My mom is a Politoed and my dad is a Poliwrath." "Well Caden, if you come into contact with a Water Stone, you'll become a Poliwrath like your father, and if you wear a King's Rock for a period of time, you'll become a Politoed like your mother." He was sent back to his seat with this new knowledge. "Next, Emilee Eevee!"
Emilee went up front. Ms. Ninetails displayed a slide of all possible 'Eeveelutions.' It seemed like Emilee was enamored with Espeon, the Psychic-Type Eeveelution, and so was I. The mysterious look, the raw battling power, the fact that it's not an Ice or Fairy-type, it seemed like the best one! I then hoped that if I were to marry Emilee someday, I would want her to be an Espeon, and I believe she did too. The last ones called up after Emilee were Danielle Dratini, Joey, and finally me. As I was walking back to my seat, Ms. Ninetails whispered "Kilian, I would like to talk to you after class." When everyone left, Ms. Ninetails took me to a separate room.
"So, Kilian. Did you lose a bet and get dyed green for it?" "Ironic, considering I was thinking the same thing about you.", I said. "Well, the reason we both look different, is because we are Shiny. We are a rare off-colored type of Pokémon, and each Pokémon species has it's own shiny color. A Shiny Bagon will always be green, while a Shiny Eevee will always be chalk white. So Kilian, what is your father?"
"Well, my stepdad is a Garchomp who is fast, can be mean, but is all around a nice guy." "So he's not your biological father? I need to know about the one who helped give birth to you." "Well, my mom always says that a Ditto from a foreign region tricked my mom to let him give her a child." "Ah, then the theory stands. I am working on a theory that if a Pokémon has a parent from another region, they have a greater chance of being Shiny. I call it 'The Shiny Theory.' And you are living proof of that theory! Now, don't tell anyone that you are Shiny, except those you are closest to." "Hey, in this school, everyone hears everything. It won't be long before everyone knows."
