#3 Friend
It was a lustrous world, made of neon lights,
And loud music filled up my nights.
Like a moth to the flame, I drew in closer,
In matter of days, I was a goner.
Old friends and family ditched for the illustrious new,
I was entranced in their beauty, I now knew.
Never saw the steep cliff, only the scenic view ahead,
They all tried to pull me back, but I was too far in my head.
Late outings and party nights soon filled up my schedule,
Now I did not sit with my family to listen sunday blues.
"They were toxic for me,"said my mother,
Did not pay heed to her, I didn't bother.
Street car racing was now my pastime,
I scorned the idea once upon a time.
It was late night now, my tired eyes sore,
The flithy alcohol had made its way to my core.
Yet I sat and took the wheel, limbs tired and very weak,
Wanted to fit in with the in-crowd, show them I wasn't meek.
Failed miserably, crashed into a tree,
Blood gushed down my head, flowing free.
My so-called glittering friends never helped,
As I lay on the road, on my way to death.
In a druken haze I remember her,
Blinking away my blood and tears.
My mother, who was always right,
And who couldn't save me this night.
Falling down a bottomless pithole was being their friend,
I never knew until I reached the dead end.
