Sitting along the street, the colors red and blue flashing against the buildings, Wheein clenched her jaw replaying the entire moment in her head. The memory of a normal morning going tragically wrong out of the blue. Everything was supposed to be normal. Nothing but a normal morning routine, heading off to classes, then heading back home. But things didn't go so normally.
—————————————

Leaving her last class slightly early in order to have enough time to go home and get ready for her shift as lunch lady at the hospital, Wheein stopped by the bathroom.

She dropped her small bag along the bathroom wall as she washed her hands and splashed some on her face. She looked into the mirror and a memory of her in Yongsun's bathroom made her feel warm inside.

Her thoughts were cut off by the sound of a student dropping a textbook in the hallway.  The sudden loud noise made her jump, but that wasn't all.

The loud noise was followed by a siren being played across the building as she felt a vibration in her pocket.  Quickly pulling out her phone, a text from the college administration/security sent chills down her spine causing her to freeze.

"ALL STUDENTS THIS IS NOT A DRILL TWO ARMED MEN HAVE ENTERED THE WEST BUILDING.  BOTH MALE AND..."

She didn't open the text fully knowing she didn't need to read the rest.  She knew she was in the west building....and that noise was not a textbook.

Running to the bathroom door she placed her hand on the lock.  She quickly turned the sliver handling. Before she ran back into a stall, some loud footsteps were heard running past the bathroom, it was only about 4 people but a loud blood curdling scream was followed by two loud bangs.

Wheein kept silent she didn't move.  There was a tear that escaped her eyes as she blinked.  Her throat was filled with fear.  She could hear footsteps walk closer to the door.  They were loud like army boots and were heavy.  Each step pulled her heart further to her stomach.

Suddenly, other students were heard running down a second hallway.

The heavy footsteps quickly moved towards the sound of fleeing innocents.

Wheein began to count how many seconds the footsteps became distant and finally breathed out when she hit 60.  She held her ear to the door to be sure.

She didn't hear footsteps but she heard a male voice groan slightly.

'Someone's out there...injured...'. Wheein thought to herself.

'I-I have to help... but my body won't move...come on do something.  Stop being useless and MOVE'. She mentally prepared her self and quietly unlocked the door.

Unsure if the perpetrator was still on the same floor she opened the heavy door slightly and peaked out of the small centimeter crack she could create.

"....ssss....it hurts....help..."

She could see a male student lying on the floor pushing his body across the floor with his legs. He was only a few feet from the bathroom Wheein was in.

Something clicked in her head.

Before she had knew what she done, she was already in the hallway helping the guy up and into the bathroom.

"Ah, my shoulder, it's my shoulder. Wait," The guy said as he held his bloody shoulder and looked at Wheein.

Still not sure if she was really conscious herself, she listen the the student.

"There was a girl out there, but she wasn't moving... just a little bit past me...I might be able to help-tch." He flinched when she set him down against the bathroom wall.

"You won't be able to do much lifting like that....I'll be right back. Stay here and put pressure on that shoulder."

Wheein felt something in her urging to help that poor girl. So she peaked her head back out the door and saw the girl a bit farther than she had hoped she'd be.

Wheein listen in the silent hallway for any indication of the suspects and quickly made a quiet dash for the girl.

As she did she heard another pair of footsteps making her their way around the corner. Terrified, Wheein hid behind a trash can near the girl. She could tell the girl was badly injured on her thigh, but she could still see slight movement in her chest meaning she was still alive.

The footsteps got closer to her, she prepared herself to attack the man.

She jumped out right when the footsteps were next to her and she tackled the person.

"Ow...what are you doing?!?" The person quietly yelled.

Wheein looked at who she ran into and it was a scrawny boy with glasses and a striped yellow shirt with jeans.  Wheein noticed his shoes were slightly beat up tennis shoe, unable to make the noise of the footsteps she heard earlier.

"Listen, I need your help."  Wheein said.

"Help yourself!  I want to live-"

"And so do these people, there's a man in the bathroom bleeding out right now in need of help.  If you want to do something meaningful in your life right now would be a hell of a good time."  Wheein starred into his eyes with a somewhat rage.

"...fine."  The guy gave in and quickly helped lift the girl up and carried her quietly into the bathroom.

"Okay, grab as many paper towels as possible and toss me my bag."  Wheein quickly ordered the guy who frantically ran for her bag and slid it across the floor.

"Awe man that's so much blood..." He leaned against the wall almost fainting.

"Hey hey, hold it together I need your hands."  She said reaching in her bag and pulling out a small medical kit.  Every medical student carried one.

She quickly pulled out all the gauze it contained.  She then ran over to the guy with the shoulder injury.

"Hey, what's your name."  Wheein said rolling up his tshirt sleeve.

"Bryan...it's Bryan..." He said between gritted teeth.

"Okay Bryan, this is gonna hurt a bit...You, get over here."  She motioned towards the skinny guy about to fall over.  He knelt down next to the guy and his face became even more pale.

"I need you to put pressure on his wound here."  She guided his hands to his shoulder over the gauze.

"I-i I don't know it's...everywhere."

Wheein looked at an object hanging around his neck.  It was an ID the students wore.  She looked at where his name should be.

"Listen, Daeshim.  Close your eyes and don't think about it.  Help will be here soon, I just need you to pull through.  Can you do that?"

"Y-Yes..." He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

"AHhh...." Bryan winced with pain and quickly quieted down.

Wheein quickly moved over to the girl who was unconscious.

"Come on, come on, just open your eyes..." Wheein knew she was out from shock but if she was awake it would be easier.

Wheein looked down at the girls waist and saw her thin brown belt.  Wheein carefully took it off her body and carefully lifted her leg just enough so she could place the belt underneath and wrap it around tight.

The movement of her leg must've woke her up.  Suddenly the girl began to scream in pain.

Unsure if the assailants were captured or not Wheein took out a notebook and folded it in half as best as she could.

"Bite down on this."  Wheein said quickly putting it against the girls mouth.

Unsure of what really was happening the girl complied.  She did exactly as Wheein said already putting her life in Wheein's hands.

"I saw an exit wound for your leg but...." Wheein said putting gauze into the injury of the girls leg.  Each gentle push made the girl grunt in pain.

"Hey, Daeshim, switch with me ready, 1, 2, 3."  Wheein quickly ran over to Bryan who held in a painful scream from the pressure being released.

The two switched places Daeshim now putting pressure on the leg injury.

"Damn it..." Wheein carefully helped Bryan lean forward so she could see if his shoulder had an exit wound.

There was a lot of blood, but no exit wound to be seen.

"Okay...Bryan I need you to lay down for me,  it'll slow down your heart minimizing the amount of blood you'll lose."

He did as told wincing with every movement.  Wheein pulled out a pair of scissors from her bag and cut the sleeve of his t shirt off.

Before she could look around for tools to extract the bullet, she heard Daeshim say something as the bathroom door was opened.

"Help us!"

The sudden realization of what could have really happened hit her.

"Hey..." the voice behind her made her jump.  Wheein looked behind her to see Yongsun looking down at her.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you.  Are you alright?"  A gentle hand rested on her shoulder.

"Yea...just post 'could've died' thoughts are going through my head." Wheein forced a fake laugh. Yongsun felt a twinge in her chest at the slight pain she could feel coming from Wheein.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Yongsun walked around the bench and sat next to her facing forward.

"Is this what it's like for you everyday?" Wheein turned and faced Yongsun. The older looked down at her hands before adjusting herself so she was half facing Wheein.

"It's always different depending on the situation, but yes...this is the basics of it." Yongsun responded openly. She noticed how Wheein seemed more comfortable with her. Her eyes became soft when they looked at Wheein when she kept looking down at her hands, playing with them.

"Is it weird that I think I enjoyed some of it?" Wheein felt embarrassed with what she said, feeling it came out the wrong way.

"N-not that I enjoy injured people, cause I don't, but treating them made me feel so useful..." She quickly calmed down after her quick moment of embarrassment. Yongsun caught a glance of Wheein's small smile underneath her short hair that fell in front of her small face blocking Yongsun's view.

"Most people, even medical students, would've just ran out...but you stayed. We could use more people like you Wheein."

Wheein looked up with a slight blush across her cheeks from the compliment given. She smiled but quickly bit her lips as if she didn't want to be seen smiling.

"All I did was do what I felt was right." She tucked her brown hair behind her ear.

"And thats all that you need to be a savior."

"A savior...."

At the end of the day after Wheein was interrogated by some police officers for a statement and was checked over by Yongsun for injuries, she finally made it home completely missing her work that was scheduled. She took a nice long shower, that is before the water ran cold, and threw her bloodied clothes into the washer.

She sat in her couch turning on the TV as she made herself hot chocolate.

It's still not the same....

She thought taking a sip of the warm liquid referring back to the perfectly flavored one Yongsun has provided.

She curled up into a small ball pulling her knees to her chest as she let her long sleeves fall off her hands to hold the hot mug without burning her hands. Her short hair pulled into a small ponytail on the top of her head bouncing with every small movement.

She pushed up her round glasses that fell down her nose as the TV caught her attention.

"Today, two armed men entered a college facility. They were both apprehended within 20 minutes of the arrival of law enforcement, but many were injured within the time range..."

Wheein turned up the volume and decided to listen it. She still couldn't believe that she was in that building.

"Some survivors agreed to let us interview them about the experience of fear and terror they held in the moment."

The screen cut to a few different students mentioning how they felt and what they saw. Wheein checked her phone slightly zoning out until she heard a familiar name.

"So Bryan, you say there was a student attending to your wounds in a bathroom?"

The camera panned over to a young man in a hospital bed sitting up with bandages around his upper body.

"Yes...there was this girl that helped me and another injured girl with our injuries...without her I probably would have bled out....thank you mystery girl for saving my life as well as my friends."

Wheein set down her mug and stared at the screen.

Wheein felt something inside of her almost click.

This is what she meant by savior....
